Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

I think this is to further emphasize the fact that he was created in Rock's image. Even his personality and demeanor in game are more aggressive than in the past.
Are you saying they made Astaroth more aggressive to emphasize his connection to Rock? I wouldn't have considered Rock the more aggressive of the two.

But on a strictly visual level, I don't think anything about Asty's design ties him to Rock, other than perhaps the fur loincloth. Or do you think they covered him with literal rocks because of Rock? I guess I wouldn't put that past Project Soul, but it would be unbelievably stupid.

For one thing, Rock is an English word. Fygul Cestemus doesn't speak English.

For two thing, they don't even call Rock "Rock." They always refer to him as "the White Giant."

And for three thing, it still doesn't change the fact that the decorative snake elements clash with all of this. It doesn't fit with Rock's design, or with the rock golem idea. I wish it did, because they could have been part of a great costume.

Those screenshots, damn this game will look gooooooood. Also the colors on that new stage!

If the story reaches the point where Siegfried reclaims his mind from Soul Edge/Nightmare, Raphael is essential; he was the key figure in that happening and so far the story beats match up entirely with what was known before. If not, I guess his chances are way lower, since his story arc was pretty insulated until that one moment of importance and he had basically nothing to do with anyone else in the cast until III, when SE's corruption took hold (a direct result of stabbing its eye) and he had Kilik/Amy to play off.
Somewhat true, in SoulCalibur II, this is what happens, but not in SoulCalibur, and I don't really blame you for getting it mixed up, because the stories of SoulCalibur and SoulCalibur II are so similar that you might even call them clones. But SoulCalibur VI appears to be covering events of SoulCalibur leading up to SoulCalibur II, but not the events from SoulCalibur II itself.

In SoulCalibur, Kilik, Xianghua, and Maxi confront Nightmare, Inferno is unleashed, Xianghua defeats Inferno with Soul Calibur, and Siegfried is momentarily freed, but still has nightmares about his experiences and doesn't completely regain his sanity. He lapses every now and then, and eventually loses himself completely once again, where he becomes Nightmare in SoulCalibur II.

During this time period, we have Raphael's situation with his family, being betrayed, him having to escape, finding Amy, and seeking asylum while things die down, where Amy helps him because she hates soldiers, and Raphael is being pursued by them. Raphael isn't interacting with the swords yet, but he does read about Soul Edge, which intrigues him and he wonders if that is what motivated the nobles, and eventually leads him to find Nightmare in SoulCalibur II.

In SoulCalibur II, Kilik, Xianghua, and Maxi confront Nightmare, Inferno is unleashed, Xianghua defeats Inferno with Soul Calibur, but Siegfried isn't freed this time, because he's almost fully lost. Raphael enters the scene and stabs Soul Edge in the eye, releasing the sword's hold on Siegfried, but then the Soul Edge shards contaminate him, and he's pulled to safety by Amy and healed, albeit cursing Amy in the process. Soul Calibur is then fused with Soul Edge to form the Soul Embrace to keep the sword in check until Zasalamel happens in SoulCalibur III.

Huge horned shoulders, claws coming onto the chest, and yes, fur loincloth. And it may not have shown in gameplay but that aggressive, wildman aspect was part and parcel to what Rock was supposed to be as a character. Project Soul hasn't always the best at getting backstory and personality into the game (hence us just getting evil Kilik and wind Talim). Fygul Cestemus has always had a hard-on for Rock, which is why they made Astaroth in his image. The snakes are representative of that very same organization and finally made their appearance in Astaroth's SCV costume.

If you don't like the design, fine, but it looks every bit the part of a golem created by a snake cult in the image of a barbarian. Astaroth is by his very nature a mishmash of concepts.

Is it me or does the “skin” on Astaroth look really detailed? Check out the area around the heart. I also see some cracks on his “skin.” Also his design seems to be a more natural looking version of his robot alt from V.

That heart though...

Its more based off his Default SCII look. Wondering if the heart beats like it did in that game too, creeped me out everytime i saw it. Something I'm also a bit more happy for as well, I personally didn't really like his designs in the later games.

You don't need Hwang for that then, Yun Seong will do the job too
No, so Assassin was basically a group of people collecting soul edge shards for Fygul Cestemus, they also used Hwang's moveset for SC2. Assassin/Hwang are completely different from Yun. I think Hwang is also better though I didn't play SC3AE. Yun can't do the job when they have two different playstyles. EDIT: It makes more sense to add something that pertains to something else.
