Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

Maybe they
i'm assuming the point of guest characters is to attract that specific target audience of the respective character.

Isn't SC4 the most they sold out of the others? I'm pretty sure it is because of the guest characters that attracted that specific audience and had people like "I can play Darth Vader!" or "I can play Yoda!". (Though imo the star wars characters felt really out of place but hey the game sold well!)

So seeing Geralt (who came from a well polished and sold game) is a smart move and if they add 2B which a lot of people and fan base has been asking for a while now will only improve sales.

Idk as of late we are seeing guest characters/crossovers becoming more frequent. Instead of focusing on one audience why not bring them all together? I would love to see the sales for BBCT in a month or so.

Just a thought. It would be a VERY smart move to announce 2B as the next guest character during TGS. If not EVO Japan or the next big gaming event.
And I'm willing to bet many jedi fans were disappointed by and irritated with the series, possibly selling the game soon after when they realized they were locked out of some of the content everyone else enjoyed when they realized they couldn't make their own Jedi character but every other style was CaSable.

Attracting people to ones game with characters of a certain type, introducing them to a mode where they can create their own characters, but denying them the ability to create characters of the type that brought them in the first place is a great way to say f you and piss people off. I get that it was a restriction due to IP issues, but come on, there are more Jedi and Sith than these characters, no reason logically someone couldn't make one. Considering order 66 and the jedi being hunted, if there was a Jedi hiding from the Sith anywhere, this backwoods primitive planet seems as good as any.

I'm so glad they said Geralt's style is CaSable, as now they can not only attract Witcher fans but allow them the fun of creating their own Witcher, another thing that consists of more than one individual.

xD
I totally agree, allowing guests in CaS is a very good idea, that benefits everyone, and i hope they stick to it for future guests.

Personally I think the various company's that refuse to allow their IP's to be CaSed are being stupid. I'm not sure how pissing off their fans is a great winning business strategy.

Yoda CaS would have been the worst thing in the entire series, though. So if they were going to be CaSable, add one more reason they should have gotten Kota from The Force Unleashed instead of Yoda, who didn't appear in The Force Unleashed, for their cross-promotion with The Force Unleashed.

They could have just made the Apprentice CaSable since the other two were "console" specific. It would have allowed for at least one CaSable Jedi style and stayed away from the movie based IP.

im hoping moving foward any and all characters/guests will be CaS friendly. otherwise keep your 2B. I have/had plans for her mole and eye cloth.

im so totally stoked azwel is going to be CaSble. (idk if this has been confirmed yet actually...)

Geralt seems like an entry level character that is very satisfying to play. Considering he was visible in creation story mode screenshots (i think?) I don't think witcher fans who pick this up will be disappointed. I want to play The Witcher after playing with Geralt in sc6, and I was mildly disinterested in that series before.

The Star Wars guests weren't just about the Force Unleashed though, it was about Star Wars in general. The effect of Yoda and Vader goes way beyond video games. That is why i think we can look past the absurdity and inappropriate mix of Star Wars and Soulcalibur to realize the reason an exception was made.

An exception that should in no way apply to 2B.

Okubo said during an interview a while back that it was important to select a guest who is popular and fits well into the Soulcalibur universe and that is how Geralt was selected.

I can't believe you trusted Dynasty's worst SCVI clickbait video. A fan made card game to confirm the rest of the base roster is just silly.
I was looking for recent gameplays and appeared this video. This was not supposed to be informative, it was just to laugh... XD

Too many new characters is also a bad thing. Look at Tekken 7. I might be in the minority saying this, but They added around 8 new characters...only half of which I feel are fully fleshed out.

IMO 4 characters is the max to add in a fighting game at a time.
Too many new characters isn't a bad thing. Too many SHITTY new characters is a bad thing. T7's newcomers range from boring (Katarina, Shaheen) to out of place (Chloe, Gigas) to shitty (Eliza, Josie). Like a third of SFV's roster is brand new, and almost all of them are excellent designs that add a ton to the game. Same applies to Killer Instinct 3 and Guilty Gear Xrd. Hell, 19 of the 50 characters in King of Fighters XIV are original, and it has one of the best rosters on the series.
Movelist is an issue. No one on that show has any notable abilities. With the exception of dragons and zombies its pretty straight forward with more drama than fantasy fiction elements in play.
T7 is adding a guest that literally did one thing with a bat.

I guess you have to look at from PS point of view and the factors that come into play. Their on a tight budget, last SC5 didn't do so well and the community was nigh dead, and the higher ups really don't really want to invest anymore in the game so this is the end all be all for the franchise.

So would it make sense to bring back a character (Hwang) who hasn't been seen since 2005? Or introduce a very popular guest character that is well know and loved and possibly attract more revenue to further their plans for the game?

Either way its a gamble however you look at it. Just got to take the one that looks more likely to get you the money. =)

Hwang!? It’s a plate full of sausage as it is.

I would pick Setsuka over 2B in any situation really I’m just obsessed with battoujutsu it’s one of the coolest techniques to exist (especially when exaggerated)

If they rework Cassie like they did with Mina again I’d opt for that.
And as much as she isn’t more important than Raphael Amy was hella fun to play as.

Those girls can appease to casuals too.
I know SC is struggling but I despise this handicap we put on the franchise by say it needs guests to survive.

The woman in this game kick ass.

C’mon Setsuka I want more “hurry up and get back up here”

I feel like Dante/Nero would fit better than 2B. In popularity at least.
Too much reliance on gunfire I think, Dante's dual pistols can shoot as fast as a machine gun and also don't require him to reload while Nero's revolver is only slightly slower, we really don't want any of those abilities to get into SoulCalibur.
In my opinion the best possible Devil May Cry guest would be Vergil. He would actually fit nicely.

Although i would like Vergil, i'm afraid he as well as Sephiroth and Cloud would have too much overlap with Mitsu's and Siegfried/Nightmare's style.
I would like to be proven wrong, though.

FF7 remake is on the way. I think we're getting Sephiroth and Cloud as well...............and hopefully Red XII for the Yoda/Gon size.
