Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

where do you get your numbers from to make these conclusions?
Overall critic scores and reviews. I looked up the score numbers, played most of the games myself, and even read reviews about them. In the past, SoulCalibur received extremely positive responses but for whatever reason, Namco fails to capitalize on marketing it. I have never seen a SoulCalibur game dip below 80% aggregate critic ratings and yet there are games out there that don't score as high but continue to sell. This points to a flaw not in the development team but in the marketing team.

Why was Justin Wong seemingly clueless about Xianghua recently - instinctively lacking any natural curiosity and experimentation in terms of trying to discover her moves? Was he taking the piss and trying to make a statement...? He did seem quite arrogant - bigger ego than Jackie Chan?
If I was getting paid to play Street Fighter V - a game I don't play/like - I'm sure I would have done better than him. He wasn't making any effort at all - looked like he was taking the piss to me, and trying to mock the game.
Figured I'd post this so people can see what he thought of Soul Calibur VI after the event and decide for themselves what he thought of it;

"Echo Fox Justin Wong JWonggg Sep 2

After playing Soul Calibur VI here are my thoughts.

- Game looks very pretty
- Xianghua is the boo for real
- Gotta master the knowledge of the game (frame data, move set, matchup)
- Very technical game
- Geralt is a bad ass
- I hope customization is so sick!! "

Honestly I think this wasn't him trying to mock the game but having been away from Soul Calibur for so long that he like most people who don't play the soul games regularly have to go back to the basics. I think the mistake was them not giving him any time to try it out before hand.

Indeed. They aren't even trying to appeal the game to all those tens of millions of gamers out there. When I have English conversation lessons with young Japanese who play video games, 90% of them have never even heard of the name Soul Calibur (and I do pronounce it in Japanese so as not to confuse them with the English pronunciation lol).

I hope that VI at least makes a name for itself based on quality alone. :(

@Vergeben Did you manage to get any new info? The final launch roster size? the DLC characters? Bamco's reaction to the leak? Or will we have to wait 12 days 'til we get something?

in its infancy with its online
Half a year is a little more than an infancy.
Is that the case with most fighting games?
From my experience both Gulty Gear Xrd: Revelator and BlazBlue: Central Fiction were pretty good at launch (at least I didn't have any troubles), so it's not a completely normal thing. At least not for so long.
If this happens with sc6, how many of you will be collectively outraged and start whining from day one like there is no tomorrow?
Nope. Because there is a very big difference exists, Tekken 7 is, essentialy, an online-only game considering how non-existent single player content is. So it's the only thing they really needed to prepare properly during those 3 years of development during "arcade phase" (balance was constantly tested with profits by normal players at arcades, so it was much less of an issue, despite large roster). Online is basically the only thing T7 has and if it's fucked up - then all of the game is fucked up.
SC6 on the contrary is a proper full game, which you can enjoy (Story, Libra, CaS) even if online is unavailable, which makes this potential situation much less critical if it would be the case. So I won't have any problems with them taking some time to fix online, let alone outraged (but I guess that's because I'm more of a casual player and even though I would enjoy online battles quite a lot, I'm still not really a competitive player for whom it's a deal breaker situation).

Guys really, this negativity is unnecessary. The game is extremely satisfying to play and very fun to watch, even if the person watching doesn't know what's up. It's gonna be good guys.
Yeah, everyone is being really negative. People checking this place as a new fan might get the wrong idea. Most of us are coming off as emos who are trying to get offended at everything and whining at small things. At least we are getting the game. Okubo-san is nothing like daishi and actually cares about the game. Most importantly the game looks high quality. I understand we have high expectations for the game, but we don't need to go into Supaa-urutora-haipa-mirakuru-beriberibigusu depression mode. Ugh. Had to get that off my chest. Just like suuusuuu said, it'll be great.

The same is possible due to the opposite. And this is something I would like to discuss here.

The netcode. Based on the safest assumptions, Soul Calibur 6 will have Tekken 7's netcode, or at least something derived from it. To my knowledge, Tekken 7 had some serious issues in its infancy with its online. Is that the case with most fighting games? If this happens with sc6, how many of you will be collectively outraged and start whining from day one like there is no tomorrow? :)
Tekken has always had trash netcodes, unless it’s T7 on the PC. SCV had a rather strong netcode at launch, though it started to dwindle slightly as it went on, especially on PS3 where you had to deal with frustrating disconnects.

TTT2 and TR netcodes were great, even a bit better than SCV Xbox 360. T7 netcode has been improve since launch, now fine but still not perfect.

I mean, I’m not bashing the gameplay, I’m criticizing their shit marketing. It’s been pretty poorly handled since gamescom.

Once we get a scrap of info people will be in higher spirits
this

i just want to see the other game mode, or something more on libra. hell even just some more on the main story i'd be fine with.

Yeah I agree. I haven't been this excited about a soul calibur game in a LONG time. There is a decent budget being put into this game a great amount of offline content and the team is working hard to make sure the game is properly balanced. All this negativity on the site let alone in this thread is bound to turn off new users to the site. I get it as a consumer you have the right to be critical but the game isn't even out yet. Sheesh.

Da-um holycarp beat his ass. I didnt watch all of it but i saw enough. Reminds me of the SC4 ranked match days. I used to clean up most matches like that if i picked Ivy too. Of course that was randoms though not against anyone who was actually good.

so I've been watching this guy since someone posted the sophie video a bit ago aand i got to this video
he says something interesting

did people really deny that amy and viola are the same person?

I don't particularly recall that Amy and Viola were denied to be the same person by a lot of people back in the day, but there was just too much implication that they were and no confirmation to back it up. Likely due to the fact that Story Mode was severely cut in SCV's release.
