Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

I'd like to see a female monster character join the roster, they're so rare.
So, something like Hisako?

They in general have problems with "sizes", not only breasts.
Characters' official heights are also hillariously inaccurate to their actual in game models.
It's a fighting game, height is an issue. However, boobs should be not xD anyway, I hope they'll stop trying to force bikinis and boob windows in the next game, they look out of place and I think most of the western fanbase agrees... a bit lame of an attempt at pulling in Japanese audience :(

So Cervantes became more advanced/difficult to use?
In my opinions youll have to really lab him to use him efficiently its not like sc5 its way more to the cervy meta plus i find him slower alot of active frames make him very easy for punishment but once hes in hes in your ass its over. Hes re options if he wins for the most part are all combos so your fuckn dead. Damage out put beast to sacrafice for being a dead decrepid scagley wag i guess isnt so bad.

stop derailing the thread please.

Moveset/weapon demands should always have higher priority than the character's sex and was the case starting in SC2

I dont' want to have to call anyone out specifically.

Here's a suggestion @fjaoaoaoa. Try to steer the conversation about Macuahuitl / Mesoamerican fighting styles rather than something that can be easily solved in CAS (like sex).

I don't really care for them adding a new female character in the reboot, when I'd rather they prioritize the awesome female fighters that are still missing from this game (Cassandra, Setsuka, Hilde, Amy, Viola, in one way form or another). I do agree that the games in general need more female characters, but I'm too tired of being disappointed to continue being a wishful thinker.

I think most people in the world are just sick of being called bad people because they don't care about diversity or that they think diversity should sit behind merit (or good cool designs/good stories). I've been called all manner of names under the sun because I think merit should be at the forefront instead of identity. I've put up with this for nearly a decade so in my experience it isn't odd that the subject causes friction, lost of people's skins have been worn thin.

Well for me personally, I think diversity or variety is purposeful in the service of good cool design and good stories. Since diversity is loaded, I prefer the term variety hehe. I am rather high in creativity and open-mindedness, so I prefer new and wilder things. So while I also prefer merit over identity, I don't necessarily see those things in opposition to each other, at least when it comes to creating fictional stories (maybe so in cases such as affirmative action but that's not Soul Calibur related).

But yes there are other people who think diversity should be in for the sake of diversity, and is more important than merit. That can definitely be pointless if not harmful as it can interfere with things such as merit or good stories. But if quality is prioritized above all and diverse VARIETY is considered (in the service of merit and intrigue)... if done intelligently and in situations where it is appropriate, diverse variety can produce intriguing and high quality designs, so I say why not.

There are also cases where some types of people almost never get represented in games which can feel alienating, but that can be tough because whose responsibility is it? No one's really, and while I would mostly say the people who feel most alienated, that can be tough if those people are already smaller in # and don't have the resources. And the fact is people identify with or feel closer to certain kinds or styles of characters over others, perhaps in part of a reflection of their own real-life experiences, or at least like having the option of having to play a wide variety of personalities and art styles in characters, such as myself. That's a reality, and I think that can lead to bigger fan bases for big cast games. Heck it can even lead to more cosplay options which is great for the gaming community.

In the case of fighting games like Soul Calibur, if one doesn't feel it is a big deal to include or exclude a certain race or gender, does it really matter then if there actually are actually more of said race or gender? Just as long as it's not run over by said race or gender..? :) Because if this game was about realism, there are already too many females. But if we are thinking about building a big fan base, and having a well-designed, and aesthetically interesting game that is based to some-degree in realism but has loads and heaps of fantasy, and with lots of different options for characters and fighting styles, then I don't see the issue with having 1 or 2 more females instead of males. Especially in SC where most of the remaining popular veteran characters are female. If I was Okubo, I prob would have kept most of the characters the same but maybe for a new character add another female or for vet characters released another female. This might happen in Season Pass, but since we don't know what's going on with that yet, some peeps are getting agitated. Intelligent marketing departments can help answer those questions, but they often overlook these sorts of things...

Didn't see this until after I posted oops lol. CaS solves some of the issue sure, but that's different to some degree since CaS characters aren't approached with the same care and attention as developer-made characters, and especially when some of those race options are gender-locked. Art style and characterization are important to many members of the SC community, and fortunately or unfortunately, gender is implicated in that. I won't discuss this anymore though since it seems to be irritating some people lol.

No it doesn't. Regular humans don't need to share all their superficial characteristics to empathize or identify with someone. Even calling it 'representation' is nonsensical. It's absurd to think that just because someone looks like you that that's in any way representative of who you are as a person. No character in any SoulCalibur game 'represents' me.

They definitely should put more tits and ass in the game though.
Yes it does. It teaches people about their heritage/culture that they would otherwise grow up knowing very little about. It gives people the opportunity to talk about and learn of other cultures that they might be unfamiliar with. Everyone should be able to look up to characters that they can relate to in the media, whether they're in video games or anywhere else. The world doesn't just revolve around you, Debra!

I'll pass on more tits & ass too. The playerbase is already full of thirsty nerds who sit in their dirty underwear all day and jerk off to virtual women. We need less of that!

EDIT: Stay perched for discussion thread where I'll go into more detail. I don't want to derail the conversation too much!

Yeah the dark-skinned Amazon chick was a really awesome concept I wish they'd gone with. I guess there's a chance with DLC but I'm not sure Soulcalibur is the kinda game they'd really put brand new characters in as DLC since it's a more story driven game. Having said that, assuming all DLC characters come with a Soul Chronicle like Tira does, that would be one way to introduce new characters without losing out on 'who they are'.

I always wanted to see Senua from Hellblade as the Guest Character but a character with a similar asthetic to her would be really awesome. Though her unstable mind was part of why I thought she'd be really unique. She could have her conflicting voices echoing during combat and intros/outros. I might end up making her in CAS using Geralt's style though.

@bigbrook Good stuff man, interesting even tho i don't really know what it really means cause i barely played Cervantes in SC4 lol

I don't know how good SC6 will be, but it's the first time i played a new SC and didn't though "Still not as good as SC2". I mean SC2 can still be better but now it feels SC6 will be nicer than SC2 gameplaywise imo. There are still things like infinite revesal edge that can end being annoying even tho still early to say.

Yes it can marvelously 👍🏼😏

Maybe it upscales nicely, but there's no way that SCVI on the PS4 Pro hits native 4k when Tekken 7 could only hit 1080p (and standard couldn't even hit 900p!)

I say this as a guy whose only gaming system is a PS4 Pro. Anything above 1080p would be great.

it boggles my mind how someone saying they want a couple more female characters can spark pages of discussion + people twisting it into an anti-feminist rant by bringing up quotas and ideologies that no one even mentioned before

liking female characters isn't a political statement, can we not just have opinions lol

I have to agree that this is the final build before release because some Move List names mainly in the RE section weren't listed properly before are now fixed.

As for that build that Namco streamed on Thursday. It was an older master build that had all the announced characters except Azwel(Maybe Namco Brazil really wanted ETC Mcfly & Kane Blueriver to not play Azwel at all because he was too strong in the TGS 2018 build as reported by @bigbrook ) That built was done after EVO Japan, but before E3. That explains the original title screen, Azwel's absence from the character select because he wasn't added yet, the full health hud change, & placeholder backgrounds for the other 9 stages.

In my opinion yes and nothing to do with it being on 4k n ps4 pro. Thats totally my opinion i found it sharper n more crisp
That could just have been a good tv picture setup. I really hope the improvements seen in the LA build are in the final game.

The first version of SC6 has more characters than the first version of SC2.
But the first release of SC2 was for arcades with the intention to release it later for consoles with extra development time. The first version of SC6 (and probably only one unless we're lucky) was made only for consoles, so I think console versions make the most sense to compare against.
