Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

The thing that bothers me is why would they position two characters (be they unlocks OR DLC) to either side of CAS and Random? Surely it would make more sense to swap them so that CAS and Random are on the very corners? It'd look really weird otherwise having two characters randomly stuck off to the side. If they were instead 'DLC categories' (like CAS) instead then it'd make more sense to be on the outside. Maybe Season 1 and Season 2, but the latter wont' even be thought about let alone planned, so I guess Bonus Characters instead but I doubt that's a thing.

I dunno, it just seems weird to have single characters in those two outer slots, but it's looking that way so fuck if I know?

Only once the characters are actually available. Until then it makes more sense to have random and CAS inside. It could be that they will switch later.

How many games in a row are people gonna try to invent a center slot for a boss? There are 22 spots in the square. We know 22 characters. And the were even the same 22 characters that were in a leak from months ago. Yet this is still somehow a mystery to people. It's just baffling.

Also those side dots get covered up by both the color selection UI and the CaS UI which would be really inconvenient if you were trying to pick your character while someone else was picking their outfit. So I wouldn't expect them to be cramming a DLC character in there. The layout will have to change when the rest of the season pass eventually comes out.

Because Inferno in the top left corner is ridiculous. Why would the embodiment of chaos go inbetween the two heroic figures, Xianghua and Siegfried? At least put Azwel there, since he is a self-proclaimed hero, even if he's misguided and actually evil, or at least seems to be that way. The slot positioning in general could have been done better, yes, but putting Inferno on the far left side would be the biggest blunder of all, if that's where he goes. It goes against the entire thematic premise that they established, while putting him inbetween Kilik and Grøh, Sophitia and Geralt, is so much more poetic that it makes perfect sense for him to go there.

About the side slots, I was expecting them to adjust the UI when those characters were announced, or they could also swivel them down and make a sixth row of five, in the long run, once the other three DLC characters come out, in a best case scenario. But Tekken 7 reorganized the screen, so it's likely that SoulCalibur VI can and will reorganize the screen in some way once all the DLC characters are out.

If the top left character isn't an unlockable character, likely Edge Master, possibly Hwang, then them leaving a corner empty like that for potentially a month or three is also a really dumb move. The side slots being empty is far less conspicuous. The only other possibility might could be if Cassandra is the second DLC character, also available at launch, and she goes in that corner. Only then would I believe that all three blank slots are DLC.

Minor thing to note so far in the video, but still kinda neat: 9 different playthrough slots for Libra of Souls. Not sure exactly what the point of that would be unless the feature where your Libra character can show up in friends' games and such in the mode would use any number of them. Unless of course there are enough variations of progression to also need that for unlocks or something, which I could maybe see.

Like Sectus mentioned in his newest podcast, the character select screen minus CaS, Random, and empty slots almost matches the original one of just 20 slots 1:1. The only change worth mentioning is Azwel. Perhaps this really does fall in line with this game’s already apparent history of revealing things that are not meant to be shown (yet), like four extra DLC slots.

Just watched a little bit of that video and why the fuck is their no proper character select screen for Arcade mode!? Why of all things would you change something as fundamental as that!?

My mind boggles at this.

I know someone said 3:30 AM EST today for the stream for SEAM if I'm not mistaken, but is that correct? Or is it 7 AM EST as is said on the schedule? Just want to make sure I've got the time right to pop the stream open.

Maybe arcade is just offline ranked? Maybe they are doing the thing where you can set match requests active while doing arcade?

Why wouldn't they just swap them when they're unlocked? Do you want to skip past an empty slot to select your OC-Donut-Steel characters for a month?

Loading times.

There's also the possibility they didn't code a single-player only CSS into the game.
