Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

Seriously, why does anyone even like CaS?
People hated Star Wars characters in IV because they felt out of place in the Soulcalibur universe and Yoda's annoying hitbox.
People hated V because it replaced old cast with characters that had little to no personality and story.
Yet for some reason some Soulcalibur "fans" love CaS which allows them to basically replace the actual roster with characters that are out of place that have absolutely no story or personality and have annoying hitboxes.

For the record, i hate CAS. I think they should do away with it entirely. I dont understand why people like the generic, shitty characters and voices available instead of the regular cast either. But then i still love character edit and i suspect you would also have issues with that anyway and yes i would be pissed if i couldnt play ranked with one of my customized characters. You gotta figure this is why they did away with alt costumes in the first place. I suppose if the game offered several different outfit choices for each character and color edits then i would be ok with it but that isnt the case. We get one outfit and two color edits. Everyone should admit that would get boring very quickly.

Edit: As a side note, its worth mentoning CAS may become far more valuable to players whos main is not returning for this game, and this game is lacking a lot of characters. I mained Ezio and Algol in SC5 so.... there you go, lol. I can see why some people might want to use CAS. Luckily for me, i mained Ivy, Zas and Cervy in 4. So there are still plenty of other characters i like anyway. Some people select a main and stick with it though, so try to understand their perspective.

Seriously can't wait for the game.
Extremely excited. I'm happy to be getting a fighting game that looks to offer good offline content and solid fighting mechanics.
Though, I did want Legendary Souls or an alternative. It was a nice little "training" / warm up tool.
Spending time in practice mode will be enough but still. Regarding ranked, I know a few of us ran two saves on SCV, 1 for ranked 1 for player matches.
Usually to avoid being pointlessly kicked from lobbies for being high ranked or to avoid pointless messages about ranks post game.
Knowing me, I'll probably stick to small casual match lobbies. I found this was the most competitive area anyway, once you have a good lobby going.
Also, I'm not going to sleep well for the first few weeks after this game.

SETSUKA.

I like CaS mainly for dressing up the roster in new outfits when I feel like their appearance starts to get stale on me or if I never liked their costumes in the first place.
Even though I don't use CaS for my own characters, I'm okay with people who are into that sort of thing having that option available to them through CaS.

Sure go for it just shoot me a message whenever. You can actually find my gamertag in the soul calibur videos i posted but I think those have been buried.

I know the feeling. Soul Calibur is in my top five fighting games and all of my friends students and collages are aware of my addiction. Whenever we have a game night i just bring one of them over. I've managed to convince a couple of friends to get it just got to convince some that were let down by 5 and convince some more that haven't played any of them and my job is done. Maybe.
great!! I'll send you a PM with my Gamertag! :)

Online is basically going to filled with troll characters and penises. I'm not really looking forward to it, no. lol
I don't ever remember fighting THAT many troll characters in IV and V online so why would VI be any different?

As a casual, i prefer the classic characters but CAS doesn't bother me either, it offers more variety in the (mostly AI) opponents appearance.
In fact i don't like much Tekken and didn't like the last one at all, except the treasure mode, i liked a lot to fight against the "shadows" of other players with their custom appearance and was quite curious about what they invented.

About Lizardman, there are other characters i would prefer in season pass as written before : Setsuka that i don't know to play and Hidle that i never played. But in reality as a casual, i'll play every character in turn 30 minutes each, so the more characters there are the better i feel, and Lizardman doesn't make exception. Algol either even if he looks like really ugly, and i could play Inferno 30 minutes too.

My biggest sadness is chronicles of sword disparition. I played again and again from start this mode and liked a lot the simplified strategy part too. Libra is a consolation but i know it won't be as rich or long as chronicles of sword. However i understand times have changed and now games cost more to create so they don't have budget for a mode as rich as this beloved hundred hours single player mode.

And i know other fighting games have almost no single player content. Anyway, i don't like them much. Tekken i liked the 3 but couldn't discern different characters in the last one. Dead or alive was quite fun but is close combat too and couldn't discern different characters either. Street fighter has beautiful varied characters and environments but the credits earning model was a nightmare as a noob.
Soul Calibur has a varied roster, every character feels special at first sight, even my husband who doesn't play knows who i'm talking about when i say for example "Mi-Na", he says "oh the Korean girl", "Raphael" he says "oh the French fencer". This is where this game succeeds.
And contrary to Mortal Kombat that is uselessly gore, Soul Calibur has this very specific play of lights and aestheticized violence. Unique.

That's right, for a casual, this game is still unique.

I don't see toxicity here, rather melodrama.

Soulcalibur was never really that competitive in my opinion, SC II and SC V probably saw the most tournament play, so I suppose this isn't really out of the blue, however it's still disappointing for people who were active in early Caliburs as it's obviously a step further away from competitive play.

If the game mechanics are solid then it still stands a chance. I certainly look forward to watching high level SoulCalibur play at big tournaments like Evo, I just hope it's not only a one off event.

The appeal of CaS is the same as creating your own character in any RPG. Whether you want to immerse yourself in the role of the setting or just bring something from your imagination to life in some form, the freedom to create the character is very enjoyable. Even "trolls" are doing it for a joke, regardless of whether you find it funny or base. Personally, I use it to create characters for my own stories with no relation whatsoever to the genre or setting of SoulCalibur. It's the same as 3-D character designing for me, which becomes very useful when later sketching those designs. And this on top of getting to play as those characters in battles with other characters when playing with friends.

Simply put, I would be far less inclined to purchase any SoulCalibur game without CaS. It was a huge factor in my attachment to the series with the release of SCIII, and has remained a major decision point in my purchase of later games. I would not be surprised if the same was true for many others. Of course, I'm also indifferent to how aesthetically appropriate a guest character is and found the cast replacements in SCV to have far more personality than their predecessors. We don't have statistics, so who knows if there's a correlation there, but I believe players do generally create characters they enjoy as much as or more than the character their style originates from. If that's too difficult to conceptualize, I cannot fathom a better explanation.

There’s also the angle of recreating the minor characters that you enjoy. Even in SoulCalibur III, which unlocked bonus characters to represent the custom character styles, it was very possible that you didn’t care for Strife, and would much rather play as Keres, Aege, Eurydice, or one of the many other Iron Sword users instead. CaS allows you to do this. If you’d rather play as Rothion or any of the NPCs that will show up in SoulCalibur VI, you can create them and do so. It’s also thanks to CaS that we can have such NPCs in the first place, which enriches the story more than if we only had the main cast to fight. And, as was the case in SoulCalibur V especially, it allows you to play as characters who don’t make it into the game, such as creating Setsuka using Alpha Patroklos style. It’s not the same, no, but it’s still better than not having them at all. We may have to improvise and create Hwang somehow for SoulCalibur VI, if he doesn’t make it in, but it would be worse if we couldn’t do that at all and were forced to live without.

The biggest problem I see with CaS that I think others do as well is that it's still half baked feature. It needs big investment not only in creation options but it needs to splinter off from Soul Calibur itself because it just drags the main series down. Problem with this idea though is that the cost of in depth customization is a lot of money. APB Reloaded is the only game even to this date that I've seen with an deep customization that cost an eye watering $100 million dollars to develop.

If CaS could match the flexibility APB has I would be all for it in Soul Calibur but as it is now all I can think of is how much money was spent on CaS features that could have been spent bringing a legacy character back or could that money could have been spent on adding more stages.

I’m attached to the idea of making my OCs fight. I actually did fake Arcade runs with them through Vs CPU in V, even giving them stages and themes.
OMG I thought I was the only one who did this XD That's awesome.

To add to this, I'm gonna be doing it with the regular cast too, so that for the 7th fight I can actually do their Destined Battle and for the 8th, Inferno on his stage.

Agree with all of this! I intend on making every single character in the Soulcalibur universe in SCVI alongside the couple of OCs I have.

CaS could indeed be way better... even if I could simply change each feature independently (like in the Warriors series for example, eyes 3 with nose 9 and mouth 7), or twitch them (eyes more open, slimmer lips, longer nose...) I would be so happy!

This feature is imperfect but we can still hope for improvement, maybe as a patch or for SCVII ^^
