Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

I keep hearing about obscuring and shells... does this include doing things like giving characters shields on arm using the turtle shell? Because I've done so when character appropriate and sophitia's sword and shield are too small.

What? No! They are talking about covering the whole body, obscuring vision to the point you cant even see what style or moves they are doing. Its literally a giant turtle shell.

The setting for this game was already pretty loose though. I could see people getting upset if half the characters were modern-looking without time travel, but it’s one character who quite honestly besides her pod doesn’t look that out of place. And her pod visually isn’t as fantastical as some other elements like Azwel or Ivy’s chain link, and if we are thinking about SC universe as a whole, Algol.

In other words, SC destroyed any sense of realism in visuals in SC1 with Ivy and her weapon. CaS further destroyed that. In this game, the two new characters are quite farfetch’d for medieval fantasy. Even Geralt, who appears at first glance very medieval, gets kind of ridiculous with his magic.

And to be fair, it’s not like 2B will be popping up in everyone’s soul chronicle anyways.

I mean Ivy's weapon is based off of the IRL Urumi sword, which works... somewhat similarly I guess?

Sorry but i'd rather not get sucked back into this debate. I already covered a lot of this before and just after she was announced and it'll only be a matter of time before someone chimes in with "not this again" so i'll stop.

The only reason i got into this again was because the discussion of additional guests led back to it.

Magic isn't an absurd addition to a medieval setting considering witch hunting was an actual practice in the unenlightened ages. Also it's not about realism, it's more about going well beyond the boundaries of the setting that's set up.

Funny you bring up the issue about realism as I have seen complaints over the fantastical elements such as magic, which as they put it started to creep in after SC2.

Dude, it's simple: no genitalia, no completely obscuring your character so your opponent will see only gigantic cube/apple/shell ( I really hope that this shit is bannable, as it actually affects gameplay [in a worse way than "altering hitboxes through size", because there you at least have some kind of visual indication. It's still broken, but you can more or less deal with it], unlike dicklizards).
Yeah if they actually said no genitalia and no obscuring your character then I would have no issue with it. The issue is they were so vague. I'm all for banning people who play almost naked talim, edgelord offensive CaS and obscured cheap characters, I just want them to be a little more specific so I know what to stop making.

something like this but with 3 shells and bigger covering the whole body, i cant seem to find the one i talking about cus this CAS is decent compared to the one with 3 shells.

If i remember correctly, he promised Geralt on PC, char from Bloodborne for PS4, and char from KI for XBOX
Moreover, exclusive guests is a tradition of this series of games. They were in every game without exception (Link for Nin, for example).

Actually you're wrong... only SC2 had exclusive guests
1 had none
2 had the three console exclusive
3 had none
4 had star wars that were all release later on both consoles
5 had ezio and devil jin on both consoles
6 has geralt and 2b on all three consoles

the only other games with a console exclusive guest were on one console exclusively IE: broken destiny and legends

Exactly. It seems almost impossible to punish people without stating what is punishable. That's the issue here.

speaking of world, lore, and setting.

in VI, they added several races to CAS, including elves and those bunny people.

aside from VI CAS, have those elves and bunny people ever appeared in Soul Calibur lore?

I'm playing with the Siegfried move set.

Nevermind, though. I finally got it. My button timing was a little off with this, but I nabbed it!
Grats! I was wondering if you were a Sieg player - His weapon actually glows outside of Soul Charge, it's a thing called "Dark Legacy" and IDK the mechanics of it since I've not touched him yet. I wondered if that was part of the confusion. Enjoy your game :)

I was talking about visual realism, and the visual relationship between 2B and medieval fantasy. Ivy honestly is already a bit out of typical medieval fantasy, visually, as are other characters.

While 2B definitely stands out visually, I don't think it's that ridiculous, especially with characters like Algol, Azwel, Groh, and Ivy. Can even add CaS, Zwei, Maxi, Viola, etc.

So yes conceptually, pod and 2B are rather out of place because of what they represent (modern/futuristic), but I feel the story and setting are already very loose, and visually, I don't think she's too far off what's already been done.

As far as I know Scherazade from SC4 was an elf and if this matters Link. For the Outcasts Olcadan is suppose to count as one because he was cursed to have an owl head. The outcast seems a little strange, but the elf makes sense.

Yeah no, i'm not dealing with this bullshit of page after page on this thread of people telling me "she's in get over it" or "its what is best for the series". Conveniently drawing a line that ends with 2B and ONLY 2B. A fucking technological android gets shoehorned into a medeival fantasy game and dont even get me started on the balance implications of her pod and how the hell that will work. Clearly NB crossed a line and said "Fuck it, we need those sales." Well guess what kids? If i gotta look forward to swarms of 2B online, you can deal with your mains not making the roster in season 1.

From a business perspective it could make sense to prioritize pulling as many people as they can from outside first, THEN worry about missing favorites. Separating them like that would increase their chances of selling more season passes and DLCs in general i think.

Because hey, you know... its more money for them and its what is "best for the series".

Don’t get it twisted I’m not happy about the perverse anime robot chick either.
But I understand she has fans, fans who could and would take an interest in the series after she’s gone.

The walking dead in Tekken is a STUPID, Stupid ploy as the likehood of the two media’s sharing a platform is rarer than rare but her we are.

SC6 is healthy for the most part but it needs to show substance and one of the strongest ways of doing that is on its own merits.
Original characters will, can and should do that for them.

And it’s important more than ever that it’s done.
Don’t give fans the chance at complaining like they’ve done with Tekken 7

I.e
“We want new characters” and we get Lucky Chloe and Gigas and Claudio (kats ok but generic)

“Why doesn’t Tekken ever have guests?” = the walking dead

“Where the hell are the rest of the vets” = Don’t ask me for shit.

I feel your frustration but having a Soulcalibur starting from scratch let’s have everyone at home first.

Exploring new tech with returning characters only for DLC season 2 have completely new ones and more guests.

Treat this like you would a match - strategically
