Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

You know what I mean though. Sometimes I think gaming companies are deliberately trying to shoot themselves in the feet with practices that end up screwing over their customers. ._.
Game companies are not run by gamers or game passionates these days. They are run by marketers who are trying to squeeze as much money from the audience as possible. They assume people will buy their product regardless, since video games are such a commodity and most people who play video games will buy them to not stay out of the loop too much, so they have no respect for the consumer. Unless the sales are a total catastrophe, they will usually turn enough profit to keep trying to pull some bullshit on players.

On the other hand, honestly, it seems Project Soul actually cares about the players. All of these tasks like balancing and adding new characters to an existing game, without breaking it, are very difficult. You can't expect them to dish out updates because of twitter spam. I bet they don't even have time to read 10% of it... There is a lot of consideration and work that has to be put into a game like this if you need to improve it. This game has been out for less than two months but the fanbase seems entitled and unforgiving. If they released 2B now, she might be a bigger issue than Mina, NM or Ivy for the average player on ranked, causing much more frustration and rage than we already have and would have a high risk of alienating new players from the entire franchise. 2B will be released when it's ready and only then. No whining, complaining etc. will make it come out faster, so you're just hurting yourself by doing this. Hell, PS even gave us a network beta and how many people got the game up to a week before release? They brought back beloved characters - they didn't have to do that. They reworked the game entirely and probably made the most dynamic fighter out there with the biggest freedom of movement, but the players just want more and more... must be a hard life.

I'm talking about a release date and announcements, not the actual release. They can take as much time as they want with it. Sometime next year is fine. All i'm saying is just tell us who is on it and when it'll be available. At least just 2B.

I understand, I'm addressing the entire fanbase in general, because I see a lot of people everywhere complaining constantly about the same 3 things. But consider this: they might not be able to give any estimate for 2B at this time. Maybe they just don't know when she will be viable for the game. What if they gave a date and she wasn't ready by then? People would freak out.

For one character? When they managed the entire base roster including all other features and elements to the game on schedule?

So lets say they cant for whatever reason settle on a date. Ok, how about rolling out the other two reveal trailers without giving any dates? At least then we'll know who we're getting if we cant know when they'll be available.

What about those equipment packs? Do they require balancing? And we all know now how stripped down the CAS parts are for the base game. I dont think they're just now working on that and we know a good amount of it will be recycled from previous games anyway.

They've identified the character and equipment count on DLC from a long time ago. Well within the early stages of development, so they knew exactly what it all was and have been working on it for some time now. 2B obviously didnt just recently become ready enough for a reveal and demonstration after the base game was done.

Edit: Tira as day 1 DLC is making a lot more sense now. They cant very well advertise a season pass with no face to put on it or in other words, no immediate point for a player to buy it. It'll be much easier to resist that "season pass available" banner everytime if there is nothing i can even do with it. If Tira is there however, i can at least play her right now until the rest of the actual season pass content drops.

I don't understand. How can they dish out trailers for the remaining characters? For that they have to have:
Character concept, character design, character illustration, english and jp voiceover, 3d model, textures, animations, not to mention updated or completely new moveset, at least one set of weapons (3d model and textures again), maybe a stage as well with new music. This involves a lot of people and work. It doesn't just appear from thin air.

This is a lot of stuff! No one said they worked on the season pass parallel to the game, only Tira was made during the developement of the game, obviously, and maybe they started working on 2B but that's just a speculation at best. How many people work in Project Soul again? And isn't working on dlc during developement (which is basically what everyone is expecting of the devs wanting them to release a brand new character 1.5 month after release of the base game) a frowned upon practice because it takes away talent from the base game?

Yes, they should say which characters will be in the season pass. But why would they? Other fighters get away with not revealing them all early on. I thought this bs ended with the release of the game.

and maybe they started working on 2B but that's just a speculation at best.

The game released on Oct 19. We had the 2B reveal before Nov. and sometime between 1 to 2 weeks from then was the gameplay demonstration. So yes, unless it takes only a few weeks to get all that up and running, they must have been working on her from a long time ago. I wouldnt call that speculation. Even if we consider from the date it went gold, that still isnt much more time.

How can they set and meet a deadline for the entire roster and the base game in general but still not be at a point where they can tell us 2B's release date? Considering all the work that is already done with her, it just doesnt add up.

DLC characters in fighting games is quite a bit different than most kinds of DLC you find with other games. It isnt really appropriate to look at it like "if we want it, we can buy it. If not, then dont buy it". That isnt really how it is. Fighting games are made up of the available characters and you cant decide anything your opponent does. So that means if several characters become available on DLC, it will drastically affect your experience online whether you buy it or not. People also have several of their mains missing so they obviously care and want to know who is on DLC. A Setsuka player will see this game a lot differently than a Tira player, at least until she gets revealed anyway. The entire point behind all of that is just to explain why it might be more important that players know the DLC for this game and why it cant be seen as just "extra content".

Maybe if this were like before, when it was going to be 1 character, it didnt matter as much. If we know there will be several, people are going to be a lot more sensitive in general about all the details. Who it is, when it will be available, etc.

Talim's Reversal Edge cancelling is crazy lol but I managed with my secondary. I guess you're supposed to use horizontals and safe on RE moves? But she can sidestep into a stance so idk honestly. Like, folks won't try that if you pop a Soul Charge but that's too little, too late. I need to fight a strong Raphael for comparison but I swear I said every slang I know while fighting her. I finished at 11-3 so yay for trial and error.

Why Miguel's dead sister isn't a DLC? She would be perfect for Negan.

I wonder if SC gets a season 2, we could expect that many characters?

If i assume for example season 1 is all guests, but they give us 6 characters on a season 2, that would pretty much cover most of the missing favorites.

Cassie, Setsuka, Hilde, Yun, Lizardman and Rock.

Not sure if they'll do that or not, just saying if they follow the "Tekken formula there".

So they announce the rest of the season pass (3 brand reveals and first gameplay reveal of Negan) and the release date is tomorrow..

What if they're doing the same for SC's first season pass? Don't wanna get hopeful but it does make sense of the delaying that's been going on with 2B.

They had gameplay of Negan!? Didnt see that and i am very curious about it.
