Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

Thing i dislike in the game literally not that much tbh which is rare, but i guess Rank mode would been better if there is no CaS and being matched with more closer rank would be also better i think, maybe more solo modes would be cool too and that require you to play original characters from the game. Libra is nice and all but i prefer to play with the original cast personally mostly (if not always lol).

Speaking about expectation right now the thing i want the most is SC World Tour to happen, i want this game to have a lot of high level tournaments and be more exposed, hype and being played at the highest level possible. If the game will stay strong with that after a while i think season 2 will happen just normally, i think.
I keep on repeating myself but I tend to do that often - dividing community by CaS and non CaS would be disastrous, especially for Steam community which already is minuscule

You know what's also disastrous? Giving people unfair advantages in a mode that's supposed to be about proving your skill.

Still, am I the only one who notices how similar both Cassandra Alexandra and Cassandra Cage are, MK fans?
I really doubt that it's intentional, just personally. Sonya is also blonde, so that's where she would get the looks from, and she got her personality more from her father, Johnny Cage, who is quite the cocky and brash individual, not unlike Cassandra. I would chalk it up to fighting game tropes being coincidental more than a deliberate copy. I really doubt that SoulCalibur is much on Nether Realm Studios's radar.

The differences are exceptionally minimal, and people blow it way out of proportion. The biggest offender is Astaroth, and this actually impacts the player much more than it does the opponent, because the smaller character negatively impacts the CaS's reach, meaning grapples won't connect when they otherwise should. There is a tournament standard, sure, and they don't allow CaS there, sure, but online ranked is not on the same level as a tournament, and never will be, so the whole thing is really kind of asinine. The vast majority of the time, the character who beat you with a custom character or who lost against you with a custom character would have had the same result if they were using a standard character. But this is an argument that has occurred countless times, and will never be settled, so it's all really a moot point anyway. They're not going to remove it, because artificially splitting the player base is just not good for longevity.

People who actually want to improve will play with other decent players they know or meet in a private lobbies. It barely affects competitive players. Removing CaS from ranked which is the only somewhat active online mode does affect a game as a whole.

That's not the point. Ranked should not allow anyone an unfair advantage, and CAS by default will give someone an unfair advantage. They should just improve Casual and readd Global Colosseo in an update, then have the CAS people migrate there so those of us who actually want to play the game fairly and can finally do so in peace.

CaS can both give a slight advantage or slight disadvantage and both of them are pretty miniscule compared to actuall player skill. If I'll smack someone with my CustomAlitaGeralt then I will most likely smack them with regular Geralt the same way. Additionally - ranked is a grindfest so it really isn't necessarily a display of skill but rather a display of perseverance. The only situation in which they could change that without harming anyone would be if the player base would be solid. But it is not

Uh, what? I think you’re on PC, a bonus to Namco.

Steam has the lowest player base probably but it's difficult to make a fair comparison if we do not have any numbers for other platforms. Regardless of that - that post seems to have highlighted your attitude towards part of SC community which is the Steam player base. Good thing you're not in any position of decision making

“Barely affects competitive players” you say?

For those who aren’t sure of what’s going on here, the second hit of Voldo’s Reversal Edge K is supposed to connect against the opponent after the knockdown on the first hit occurs. But against the CaS Nightmare it whiffs twice. I’m not trying to attack people who like to use CaS characters, but I just wanted to show this as an example of what to expect when using and fighting CaS (and why the competitive audience frowns upon it), and I think this is what @Nyte and @SSfox were trying to get at.

I also apologize for the quality. I was using my phone to record this. :(

I doubt you will play against a custom NM in any sort of tournament. If you want a serious game session you can meet up with people offline or in private lobbies and do ft 5, ft10 etc. You can also not take rematch against a custom character and go on searching for another game. Excluding a serious portion of players from online play isn't the best idea (open lobbies are scarce or nonexistent)

Everytime I walk into this thread, all I see is nonstop arguments and insults. It's annoying, and I'm not the only one who thinks so. I already suggested that they take it to PMs instead of trying to get this thread shut down over catfights.
Well I don't visit this place too often so I don't really know nor care about any of those "catfights". Shared my opinion and then defended it - that's all and that's what gd section is for.

Sometimes I honestly don’t think the mods/admins really care for what goes on in this thread anymore tbh. They probably get the feeling the cycle will just start anew if they shut it down.
Argument spreads like wildfire. Mods express irritation. Participants get infracted. Thread closed the next day. New thread is made. People bitch about trivial shit again. Mods issue warnings. People still continue bitching. Mods express irritation and close new thread. Participants get infracted. New thread is made. Rinse and repeat.

Speaking from my own perspective, I don't see anything wrong with friendly debate or disagreement, as this is a discussion thread, a general one, it can be about literally anything as long as it's related to SoulCalibur VI, unless it's so hyper-focused that it deserves its own thread, but most things really don't fall into that category, it doesn't seem like. But like @Ave said, it needs to be done with civility and without being offensive. I don't think that's too much to ask. Unless we're proposing to have a Thunderdome thread, just for "petty arguments", if that would somehow make the quality of this thread go up. And don't suggest the shitposting thread, because that's an entirely different thing, being posts that are obviously low quality by nature, intentionally, whereas the kinds of things that flare up in this thread are, on some level at least, meant well, but something ends up setting things ablaze.
