Soulcalibur VI DLC Discussion Thread

Eh, it's not like there's much to talk about until the DLC actually happens. It's not really fun speculating when 3/4 of them are practically locks, and the first three at that. The last slot is the only real mystery, and we can discuss it to death, but we've all said our piece on it by now. We could just go to the shitposting thread, but... I dunno, the other option is posting a lot of Hwang appreciation and hype posts. :sc3hwang1:

I was wondering if he will get any old costume too. I would like one of these options:
I love this bonus costume from SE, it's one of my favorites. :sc3hwang1:

They tease assassin, so I want his clothes too. :sc2ass3:

You know, some of those NPCs from the SC4 Story Mode have decent potential to become full characters if given a full moveset. Azola is one I personally would love to see, since she is shown to be a dark and manipulative character, being the one to convince Sophitia to side with Nightmare, there is a lot that could be done with her.

What cosmetic dlc do you think warrants a slot in steam? Do you think it's just a season pass bonus? I know the cosmetic stuff for season 3 tekken wasn't initially announced. It was only revealed close to the actual launch of season 3.

There are 4 slots for characters, 4 slots for creation, 1 slot for season pass and 1 slot for something else....

I’m firmly on team Aeon, at least for right now. It’s a half finished style anyway, and they’ll probably just use the existing model with the existing but unusable armor and call it a day. That’s cosmetic enough for a side extra DLC.

I'd love to see Bonus Characters, like in SC3 and SC4, you know, minor characters that aren't worth making an entire moveset for, but could have their own model and voice.

So it seems the season 2 pass will be the same price as season 1. Either it will come around the time of this welcome price release or before it. So something in november

Now as we're hopefully getting closer to the first season 2 character getting announced (I think the world invitational tournament is a very obvious place for Namco to announce it), does anyone have any new guesses what the colours could mean in the original season 2 trailer?

First of all, we know the colour for Haohmaru is red. Though, I'm not sure what the connection is. Maybe one of these:
  • Red is a secondary colour on his outfit.
  • Samurai Shodown as a series features a lot of blood.
  • There's some lore stuff in SS where Haohmaru has the "red pearl soul."
And then we have the other colours...

Yellow:
  • Hwang is derived from the Chinese surname Huang which means yellow in Chinese.
  • Yellow is a secondary colour used on the outfits of Algol and Setsuka.
Pink:
  • There are numerous references to cherry blossoms for Setsuka (it's part of her nickname, you see cherry blossoms in her SC4 CF), and cherry blossoms are pink.
  • Pink is one of the colours on Setsuka's SC3 1P (thought the colour on her outfit might look more red than pink).
Dark blue or grey:
  • Rocks are grey?
  • Hilde's armour is grey!?
  • I'm honestly struggling to find anything meaningful for this colour.
What do people think? Maybe the colours actually don't mean anything and they're misleading red herrings?

Perhaps you're onto something and it ties into the idea that they might be hinting at alignments for the characters based on each particular sword in the background. Perhaps a soul calibur, a soul edge, and a neutral oriented character? There's not a huge amount of characters we could be receiving but I can't help but find it a bit curious that they bothered choosing a different sword and color for each image. It could just be a marketing maneuver since it definitely looks better than having the same color, silhoutte, and background image but maybe it does mean something else.

I'll say what I've said before, Hwang for Yellow and Setsuka for Pink are pretty much given locks, and I can't really see them going anywhere else. Hwang is in the game as a character who could have been represented by Mitsurugi's style, like Han-myeong is, but they chose not to. That speaks volumes to me that he was in the cards to be in the game proper, either in the original plan (didn't make the cut -- budget) or as a season pass character (where we are now). And then there's Setsuka, the conspicuously missing of the SoulCalibur III trio.

Grey is the mystery, but... my gut says Rock. I really don't believe we'll get Hilde until SoulCalibur VII, despite her popularity and unique moveset, they have to save something for the next game to entice us to pick it up. Algol and Hilde, maybe Dampierre and his crew, they'll be fine candidates for new characters for the narrative moving forward, since story involvement has definitely been important for every included character thus far. Algol and Hilde are linked, sooo... can't really have one without the other, from a story standpoint.

Aeon isn't Grey, but Green. If it was Green, it would absolutely be Aeon, but that doesn't mean I'm counting Aeon out, either. There's that extra conspicuous DLC that's on SteamDB that is outside of the confines of the second season pass, and I believe it's Aeon, to be given as either a bonus character for buying the season pass, or even maybe as a free DLC given as a token of goodwill for the fans' support of the game. Rock definitely is Grey, though, and if it's not Hilde, he's only the really other one left for that color's representation.

I agree with your colour scheme. Also, there's pink cherry blossoms on Setsuka's 1P kimono in SC4.
What strikes me is that the red and grey slots have that crushed glass effect that the yellow and pink ones don't. They don't seem to be bound to the Soul Edge image in the background as they're not symmetrical. Could mean anything or nothing, really.

On a side note, I think that the six codenames from your datamine are still valid. Three codenamed characters (be it returning or new characters) per season pass plus one guest character each. I don't think that Haohmaru corresponds to any of the codenames as Okubo confirmed that SNK agreed to the deal on short notice, but I believe the codenames are older than that.

This is mostly me being desperate, but Yun-Seong weapon is named White Storm and has white as a main color in his SC2 1p, though I believe Dante mentioned this some odd weeks back.

Edit: Oh, and he’s the only SC2 character remaining to be put in the game.

Yun-seong is the safest choice for the invitational reveal, so worry not.

The Japanese apparently love Yun-Seong or so I've been told. Of course I have no proof to back it up! I have no idea what gaming websites or forums that the Japanese use. But since skeptics keep telling me Japan favors Yun-Seong over Hwang and Project Soul is a Japanese development team I think Yun has the edge.

Besides it was people on 8wayrun or reddit who kicked off the whole Hwang = Yellow thing. Obviously Hwang does mean Yellow in Chinese or sulfur or something. But it's very likely people are thinking Project Soul is more charitable than they actually are.

Then some people were convinced that SC6 would Hwang and Lizardman as bonus unlockable characters :( and that didn't turn out to be true.

I stand by the opinion that Hwang and Aeon were supposed to be in the base game, but didn’t make the cut due to time or money shortage. DLC can fix this, though, now that they have time and money, and will get even more money by putting them out.

I heard some rumors during SC 5, Mi-na and Yun-seong has many fans in Japan, but like you, I can't say this is true.
Well I can say, as someone who speaks a little Japanese. I dOn't lEik YUn SeONg, DeSUuuuu.

Jokes aside, I personally have never heard that. Then again, I don't tend to frequent other SC sites. We can hope at least, right?
