Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

My point with DOA6 was them catering to a vocal minority hurt them massively, while SCVI didn’t and was no worse for wear.
But we don't even know that. That's what I'm trying to tell you.

We don't know who was a "minority" or whether it hurt them "massively" where it otherwise wouldn't have. The same with SC6. It's a correlation and causation issue. There were even games within their own series that I would certainly call less sexy than some other entries that sold better than the sexier ones. There are games far less sexy than SC or DOA, fighting and otherwise, that sell better than either one. And then, I don't even know if sexier fighting games exist that sell more than either one. We shouldn't be trying to argue this stuff if we don't have the relevant data.

And hello, ever notice how women always go for sexy cosplay?
Do they have a choice? lol

Personally, I'm just happy that Project Soul made the game they wanted to make without being influenced by the vocal minority. That deserves credit.

This video, which was made in response to that infamous Kotaku article, perfectly explains why SC being sexy is just fine and whining about it is dumb.

They choose them over conservative designs, yeah.

Why are you even following SC if you hate sex appeal so much?
I don't hate sex appeal, I just feel like it, like everything else, should exist in moderation, and have limits. It's fine in SoulBlade, SoulCalibur, SoulCalibur II, SoulCalibur III, and SoulCalibur V. It's very much not fine in SoulCalibur IV, and a bit better but not by much in SoulCalibur VI. I follow the series because they're very fun games to play, and for the most part, I enjoy the characters and the story and game modes and everything inbetween. It's a "complete package" of a game that I enjoy, and my favorite fighting game series overall. That being said, it's not impossible, actually should be reasonable, that I should find faults in the thing or things that I enjoy.

The way you constantly praise SCV, and speak like what you're saying is fact, makes me wonder if you even realize that you're in an extreme minority. People HATE Soulcalibur V, because it was a shitty game. That's why they rebooted the series and abandoned course.
I liked SoulCalibur V, in a lot of ways, but I also disliked SoulCalibur V in probably an equal number of ways. I realize my opinion on certain things is minority, but it was definitely not a shitty game. It had questionable design decisions, and it was lame how the characters, especially female ones, were cut and their successors ill-defined. They realized this part of the mistake and are correcting this with the "reboot", but still are incorporating the good things from SoulCalibur V, because, like it or not, there were some salvageable parts from it, and we will be revisiting those parts, as hints were dropped that we will.

But seriously, I'm starting to get why you're so desperate to prove SCVI isn't a reboot and why we're totally going back to the SCV era. You want to get rid of the old female cast all over again!
No, you're making a ridiculous and unfounded argument. I don't want to get rid of the old female cast, as they are among my favorite characters. It is a known, if you've followed my posts, that I preferred Natsu over Taki, but other than that, I hate hate hate (in the way you think I hate sex appeal) Leixia and Xiba (who replaced Mi-na, one of my toppest favorites). And I also missed Hwang/Yun-seong/Talim/Zasalamel/Setsuka, the others who were cut, and of course Sophitia and Cassandra. Pyrrha really didn't cut it, and Patroklos was Patroklos.

Wait, how is DOA6 comparable to SCIV? I thought SCV is more comparable in this case. SCIV, hate it or love it, was a big success and didn't "kill" the series anywhere near as much as SCV did.

I love everything else you said though.

Well SC4 did not kill the series and put it on a brake for more than 6 years thats what SC5 did and i believe DOA6 will not kill the series either thats why i compared it with SC4.

Soulcalibur isn’t about “moderation”. It’s fantasy, and everyone gets that. Most people like “underboob queen” Mi-na and many think it’s her best design to date. I love it for sure.

Thankfully, the team at PS knows what the core appeal of SC is, and aren’t likely to change it.

What are you saying? I’m just saying that many love Mi-na’s design, the same one Dante is complaining about.
More about the "many think it’s her best design to date" part. Like...how many? It looks like a bikini top attached to sleeves. I'd say that literally all her other defaults make more visual sense.

Also, didn't you make that GFaqs poll on why people are most excited for Setsuka? And you said that you were surprised that gameplay won and not her sexy, sexy design? Are you so sure you're in the know about what the "core appeal" of SC is?

What are you talking about?

Anyways, I’m just saying her complaining represents her own opinion and she presents it like some general consensus. Most people LIKE her design, I’ve been around to see it.

Oh god. Well, I am not going to read all this, but holy cow I feel sick after skimming the comments.

First I want to say I do love Hilde's design. She looks elegant and beautiful at the same time. I do understand why people have a problem with her chest plate, but I reason that it must be specificly made so her chest doesn't hurt.

While I do not mind the majority of the sex appeal the women have in this game, I do mind that Talim and Amy are showing off skin on places that are questionable. Yet, Xianghua and Hilda look more tastefully dressed for some reason compared to those two.

I painfully understand that Soul Calibur is a niche series, but it doesn't mean every single female character should look skimpy.

P.S. DOA6 has good fanservice. I see nothing SJW about it.

IMO, the Mi-na outfits ranked best to worst:

1) SoulCalibur III 2p
2) SoulCalibur 1p
3) SoulCalibur II 2p
4) SoulCalibur IV 1p
5) SoulBlade 1p
6) SoulCalibur II 1p
7) SoulCalibur II 3p
8) SoulCalibur 2p
9) SoulCalibur III 1p
10) SoulBlade 2p
11) SoulCalibur IV 2p
12) SoulCalibur VI
13) SoulBlade 3p

You'll notice I do rank those showing skin higher than others not showing skin a fair number of times, too. Her SoulCalibur VI outfit is just awkward, though it still comes across better than that tacky mess that was her 3p from SoulBlade. It might not have had underboob, but whoever decided that monstrosity was acceptable needs to go back to fashion school. You'll also note I ranked the underboob from Soulcalibur IV quite high at number four. It's not the underboob in and of itself that I don't like, but the way it's presented. As a rule, undersized bikinis just look ridiculous. The free-flowing tied loose top looked fine and natural, by comparison.

@Nyte: Just for the record, as I've said before and you've neglected to read or understand, I am simply stating my opinions. I present nothing as consensus or fact. That's your own reading into what I'm saying the way you want to take it since it opposes your own view, from my perspective. You seem duty-bound to take offense instead of even attempting to see it the way others see it. Not just in this, but anything debated anywhere when you're involved.

What are you talking about?
What, indeed. Maybe I'm thinking of someone else...

Are you sure you're not just in a bubble? All of these message boards and such are nothing but vocal minorities when you think about it. Guaranteed that the actual majority don't care enough to speak on these designs either way.

I do understand why people have a problem with her chest plate, but I reason that it must be specificly made so her chest doesn't hurt.
There wouldn't be the cups at all if that were a concern. It'd just be bowed outward all around. Unless you're saying that it acts as an encapsulation bra which...nah. lol
P.S. DOA6 has good fanservice. I see nothing SJW about it.
But, you see, it doesn't have ALL the fanservice, so it's trash. lol

All this fighting is pointless. Project Soul will make the game they want to make in the end.
You'd be right back here complaining if it wasn't sexy enough. Don't lie. lol

It’s also pointless. Okubo has been told to his face in interviews multiple times that the female character design is “problematic” and he didn’t care. They continued doing what they do even with sites like Kotaku trying to shame them. I don’t think some random people on a forum are going to hold much weight if websites with a global reach can’t do anything.

But indeed, I am tired of this. Anything else to talk about?

LMAO taking Kotaku or polygon seriously is stupid, both sites claim to be about games but most of the time they are busy pushing their political views while talking about games. I dont get these people if you want to publish politics related topics go and do it on a politics related site! dont try and make of a game a politic statement or try to push your own world views. Game sites should be about games and nothing else. Of course games can be political and thats ok thats good food for thought, but journalist should try to keep it at a minimum like bitch i want to know if a game is good or not, i dont wana know how you came to the conclusion that Goat Simulator is a representation about Trump building a wall and tearing society in pieces.

also @Nyte yeah thank god Okubo is at command our lord and savior.

Edit: i would like also to end it at this lets just talk something else.
