I beat you to posting it by just a little, but that’s pretty amusing that it happens in SoulCalibur V as well! How far do you have to go to get that to happen, though? I ask because I did a lot of infinite stage grinding to get that “Wind of Battle” achievement for traveling 87.6k meters and I don’t recall this happening. Unless I just never saw the screen do it or the battles didn’t last long enough to travel far enough, I’m not entirely sure.

In SC6 I think it's about 80 seconds of running. It's harder to gauge in SC5 because I was playing the game in emulator (so I can do memory editing) and the emulator was running the game at about 40% speed.

I personally think my issue comes from either of these but I primarily think it's the latter. As a Yoshi player one of my BnB setup combos is to run foward and then quickly crouch to do his hellsweep then his 3B for a combo. I use to be able to run up with this combo to the point the crouch was unseeable, now you can see it a mile off not only making it less effective but has made Yoshi painfully restrictive. It also doesn't help that from his hell sweep to get his 3B as a natural combo you have to move cancel to do it. The delay isn't as severe as running into a hell sweep but it is noticeable and lowers my chances of successfully landing this combo because I have to delay the move cancel just to make sure the buffer registers it.

Ahhh Now I get what you mean.
I can totally understand why that would be a problem but was the change to the movement a conscious decision on their part?

And it might benefit Yoshi but were there other characters that could totally abuse BnB set ups?

Generally I’m in two minds about it I don’t like the pace it gives to the way I play but I have found my inputs to be more consistent.
I’m sure Project soul will find a way to fix the issues if the general consensus is negative.

I mean RE is decent now it doesn’t activate on block.

When you were going for the achievement, were you paying attention to the game all the time? Honestly no, it became a muscle memory exercise after a time. You couldn’t do it in training, though, so it was in Quick Battle which was limited in time to 60 seconds per round, so it may not have been able to happen, even with Voldo’s heightened running ability.

Edit: Though it may vary. You said 80 seconds, which is about right for Faraway Meadow, but Grand Labyrinth took a fair bit longer, a little over two minutes, so it may be a bigger stage.

With Wilhelm heavily hinted to become Z.W.E.I. in Hilde's chronicle, I'm dreading that the fourth DLC slot might in fact be him instead of Hwang, Yun-Seong, Lizardman or Rock.

Because actually, prior to their releases, Amy and Cassandra were hinted at the same way (new, unique, un-CAS-able outfits in chronicle portraits). Storyline-wise, they could expand on the hinted travels with Amy (potentially making him Z.W.E.I. and her Viola respectively)?

But the "if somebody becomes Amy's 'traveling companion' they are more likely to end up being Zwei" thing is itself a fan theory of your own devising. I don't think it's at all a prerequisite for Zwei's alter ego, beyond that head cannon you've adopted. And honestly, at least there are some hints intrinsic to Wilhelm's story that suggest he could be Zwei: I just don't think your Groh=Zwei theory ever really had even that much meat to it, no offense intended.

And I don't think Lucius is really a comparable situation: in that case we're talking about the notion of a tertiary character being upgraded into a playable character, which is something fanboys/girls of the plot are always predicting will happen, but which in the history of the franchise has happened only once (Amy). It's particularly unlikely to happen with Lucius given we already have a pool of six sword and shield characters that the devs could choose from for a given game. Zwei (like Viola) is a completely different animal: we know that someone (known to us at this point or not) eventually has to lose their former identity in order to become him, and there's every reason to believe that the devs of this particular "cover all the story bases" team would want to set that up sooner rather than later. So really very, very different scenarios, and I don't think its at all the case that "Lucius could definitely be a fighter just as well as Wilhelm."

I'd be lying if I said I had sat through every line of Hilde's Soul Chronicle, so I don't know just how strong the case is for Wilhelm, but just counting the parts that I did see, and elements referenced here, I would say he's at least more likely than Groh, who really never had anything more than the bro-meets-emo visual design in common with Zwei. Yes, they both look like they spent more time listening to Imagine Dragons albums than they have spent learning the basic ways in which you effectively hold a sword, but other than that.. And as I think I said once before, I actually wish your theory was more likely to bear out, because I think Groh and Zwei are arguably the two most bottom of the barrel character designs in the history of the franchise, and would be very happy to know that it was unlikely that both take up a roster spot in a single game. But if we presume that there's a decent chance that some of the SCV newbies might show up in SCVII (and I think it is probable that we will--Viola at least), it's possible we will see both Groh and Zwei in the next game (alas...), since new characters are usually included at least two games in a row.

I know and have acknowledged elsewhere that as of this moment, Z.W.E.I.'s identity is unknown, but could be Grøh or Wilhelm at about an equal chance, honestly. Neither Grøh nor Wilhelm have as much in common with Z.W.E.I. as SoulCalibur V Nightmare did with Raphael, so it's a stretch either way. It's just a little frustrating to see a bunch of people fully on board with Wilhelm for similar reasons as where I was with Grøh except Wilhelm is apparently reasonable and Grøh is apparently not. I don't understand it myself. And yes, it's partly my own theory that whomever travels with Amy to Ostrheinsburg has a good shot of being Z.W.E.I., but that one seems a bit more credible than any other theory. Otherwise who is this guy and why is he important? We'll see either way whatever the future brings, but this is just me being a little obstinate given the circumstances I just mentioned.

Lucius could be a spear/shield user though, that's the more popular opinion of folks that are convinced Lucius has a chance, from my observations. His design is pretty fanciful for just a one-off, and unlike Maelys, he seems to have unique parts like Wilhelm, so I would say they're on pretty equal standing. Not that I honestly have much faith in seeing either of them derailing the train of waifus that is our DLC model, but Wilhelm is just as much a tertiary character as Lucius unless he does end up being Z.W.E.I., that's what I'm getting at.

I will admit that Wilhelm does shake things up a bit, makes Grøh seem less likely, but at the end of the day, I don't believe we have enough evidence for either one of them to have Z.W.E.I. on lock, and I don't feel like Wilhelm has a real shot of being a future character on the roster. I could be wrong, of course, but I never claimed that my theories were absolutely true or infallible, contrary to Nyte's opinion. I have some cognitive bias in preferring Grøh over Wilhelm since it was my original theory, but I feel like Wilhelm has some problems fulfilling Z.W.E.I.'s origin story in being born and raised in a monastery, which I wouldn't describe Wolfkrone as, but the Aval Organization definitely could be, depending on your point of view. It's up in the air for now, and I'm just going to wait to see how the pieces fit in the future.

Z.W.E.I. (Wilhelm) as Season 2 DLC makes sense from a cost-effectiveness point of view (moveset assets) contrary to a completely new character and moveset. So, I'm betting on this horse.

I can empathize with a biased point of view (I was in denial about Setsuka not coming to SCV for quite a while), and at the same time, I don't think there's any shame in letting a long-held theory go.

Out of innocent curiosity, how do you understand the wolf references concerning Wilhelm?

Wolfkrone is represented by wolves. It’s an interesting take to say their unique fighting style is based off a wolf spirit that has inspired their kings rather than it simply being a regal legacy, but I don’t feel like that means anything or is special to indicate Z.W.E.I., because while Z.W.E.I. is certainly mysterious, nothing about him linked him to Wolfkrone nor would I find his swordsmanship similar to that of Hilde.

How do you explain the unique pieces of armour in the portraits (the one that's underneath [!] the generic-looking one?)

Again, I defer to Lucius’s unique outfit as a counterpoint. It’s not a trait that Wilhelm has that no one else does. We also can’t forget Hwang, Aeon, and Edge Master, though they are, in fairness, quite clearly based on past appearances to a degree, yet also have unique non-generic equipment, compared to, say, Maelys, Han-myeong, and Arthur. And there is also Salia, who has unique hair yet generic equipment.

It is interesting that he does have his own unique equipment, but even a bit more local, if you look at George and Dürer, while there is some similarity between their artwork and their in-game models, they are not truly representative, either. Dürer’s armor lacks the angled crests and appears quite grey as opposed to the bronze he actually wears, and George appears to be wearing some sort of breastplate, even in his malfested art, yet he is quite exposed, only having under-armor when he is fought. They had the opportunity to remove his armor from the malfested art, since we never saw him in-battle when he was sane, but they neglected to do so.

The hinted Amy travel companionship?

I didn’t get anything from Hilde’s Soul Chronicle that implied that Wilhelm would be traveling with Amy. His leaving Wolfkrone was his act of freedom, yet his intent was still to establish relations with allies and help Wolfkrone remotely, as well as conducting research with the Aval Organization about the malfested regaining their sanity, as was reported by Gerhilde. I’m not sure how escorting Amy to Ostrheinsburg accomplishes these goals or would be related.

I will gladly let it go, if and when it is disproven. That is not the case right now, as there isn’t enough evidence in Wilhelm’s favor to oust Grøh from the original theory.
