Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

Kumite pools have just started.

Schedule for tomorrow

So I take it we’re gonna have to wait till EVO Japan for news right?

Bummer but at least they’re being clear about it. They’ve been clear with communication in general much better than before. I’m just hoping that this will be a twofer with both Haohmaru and Setsuka since we already know the former is in.

Also I believe that this World Tour that’s kicking off here is going to lead to the announcement of a re-release for next-gen. The fact that they’re still heavily supporting it tells me they want to continue it, and the best way to do so is to refresh the community like Street Fighter V did. That and the new consoles launch later this year...

Just call it a hunch

PS5 and Xbox Series X will most assuredly be backwards compatible, so there will be no need for them to re-release it for next gen. I really doubt they'll do it. Maybe a complete edition with all the season passes baked in, and that's a big maybe, but that would be the only thing, if at all. Season 3 seems more likely than a re-release for next gen.

Except we already know games are getting re-released for next-gen, so...

They can use this as an opportunity to release all content in one, and up the graphics. And also, no need?

It would help refresh the community because a lot of people would buy the new game with all the content in it, making more money, and continuing the life of the game itself. I fail to see why they wouldn’t do it. A company’s main goal is to make money and this would also give them good PR because of the hype.

They’ll likely continue with Season 3 after re-releasing it. No need to debate my theory, I just see it that way and wouldn’t be surprised if that’s what they do.

Now put it on Amy lol

It still looks kinda stupid. But it could be worse. There are definitely much worse things you could put on Amy.

Like the "Female Pirate" outfit.

Gonna go out on a limb here and say that that's not quite what female pirates wear. lol

Harada has considered it previously.

Several times, too. If it happens with Tekken (which seems definitely possible), I think it'll happen to SOULCALIBUR too eventually.

Personally, if the PS5 really is backwards compatible with all previous PS consoles, then I don't really need a remastered collection. I'd much rather they devote their time and resources to SCVII.

I don't want Namco to rush things like they did with this game. Hopefully, after seeing all the support SCVI is getting, they'll treat SCVII better.

Speaking of which, when do you think we’ll get SCVII?

I’ve been hoping for a 2021 reveal and 2022 release, which is reasonable. Remember we only waited so long for SCVI because of the internal drama. This would be more of a standard wait. I wonder if they’re in the early stages already tbh.

I tjink it all hinges on s3. If we get it then we likwly arent going to see anything related to scvii until at least 2021. If we don't, we might just see it as you say. Its 50/50 imho.

I’d say the series is pretty well saved by this point. Remember they didn’t expect an S2.

I meant more that if we get season 3 wevll probably just see scvii later mostly, but i agree the series is looking much more stable.

You guys are insane. Why are we talking about SoulCalibur VII now? That game is like 3-6 years away.

The pessimism is also hilarious. We got SC6 after six years of waiting. It would take a game to bomb harder than SC5 to truly kill the series. Bamco has shown with SoulCalibur at the very least they will keep the series going every now and then

Also, I think people are imagining that the next game will be “so hard” to develop are being a bit overdramatic. The days of fighting games being bleeding edge tech are over.

Why do you think a prestige fighter like virtua fighter is dead? The series which utilized cutting edge technology from arcades could no longer continue as arcades are dead.

Fighting games don’t need to sell consoles anymore. They are basically all multiplatform esport stuff now. They need to sell DLC and season passes over everything else

More than likely SoulCalibur 7 will be a modest visual upgrade over this game. They may cut apart the roster once more to make dlc season passes over many years a viable thing

I don’t think we’re going to be getting any news on a SCVII for a while. There’s still the season 2 stuff to go through. Plus, I think it would be better for them to currently spend more time with SC6 and see what they can do to improve the game for the audience to keep players invested instead of just tossing it aside after S2 and already just planning a sequel from a game that won’t even be three years old at that point. Not to mention SC6 has a very active competitive scene and has made a lot of splashes at tournaments, such as EVO 2019 and even has the upcoming World Tour right around the corner. There’s honestly just no real reason to announce SCVII right now.

It seems it's too soon to speak about SC7, we didn't have all the SP2 Characters revelead. Sure we'll got Haohmaru's gameplay trailer and release date announcement in three weeks (I don't care about him), but I hope we'll get tease of the 3rd character.
