Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

yeah, Cassandra really needs to be announced and released before Evo in August. Unless work on the character is far from done, releasing in August would be way too late. Evo is when they need to announce Season 2 and the 1st S2 character.

so, in May, I say we get CAS pack #2 released along with Cassandra announcement. Then in June for E3, we get Cassandra release.

Now we just need Bandai Namco Taiwan the early leak gods to answer our prayers.

perhaps it was fate that made me complain. It was feeling like just enough time had passed where we ought to have gotten an update.

Alas, it appears to be incoming.

But with project soul, soon could be May 1, or May 31
Wouldn't get too excited yet. The previous CaS DLC was also updated at the same time and all it did was add Latin American language support.

Keep in mind guys, this is probably CAS DLC2, Cassandra is the last DLC and then pray to the gods (and Okubo) that they make Season pass 2.

It is most definitely CAS pack 2. They did an update for CAS pack 1 today as well so that further corroborates that. though it would be great if they stuffed their release schedule and pushed Cassandra up!

I just want to find out about Cassandra and S2 so my everlasting bitterness for wanting to reunite with Hwang can be put to rest.
If they seriously pulled a quick follow up with Cassandra after the CAS pack it would make me overjoyed.

I wonder if the response to fans wanting new stages will only be addressed in season 2 however, it seems to in general be a thing they weren't really directly focused on I mean.
I do hope there's a fair amount of stages on the way.

I suspect there will be a ‘classic stages pack’ in a season 2 update. It would be almost unthinkable for them to not address this issue

To be honest, after hearing time and time again about the whole debacle of companies forcing 100 hour work weeks and whatnot to push out game stuff, I have to admit I am a lot more inclined to just shut up and wait. I would much rather wait another month, than to feel bad about playing a game.

Let’s not kid outselves here. This game isn’t like fortnite or Other AAA top tier games requiring massive manpower and crunch time that absolutely is murder on employee moral. I’m not going to discount the hard work the team put into this game but it’s not unreasonable to want more. This game is lacking in so many ways. All it needs to be perfect is just more stages and more characters and for them to stop fluctuating with mechanics of RE, GI, etc.

Well I don’t know what to expect for stages in the future. I suspect at minimum we will get one more stage and anything after that...maybe we get nothing.

Don’t forget a better netcode, matchmaking, improvements to casual /player match, better balance within the roster.

I think chances are high they crunched on SC6. Okubo had to convince higher-ups they needed more time to finish the game, which suggests they were struggling to finish the game on time. And there was that incident with one of the producers on SC6 ranting on twitter about his work (one of the things he mentioned was being tired of meetings happening at 5 am).

I like hearing about game development stories, and crunch is one thing I keep hearing about all the time. I get the impression it's far more common for games to have crunch time than none at all (sometimes to an extreme extent. I've heard several stories about people literally living at the workplace, though those stories were all about working on games during the 90's).

There's only one entity to blame for the lack of content in SC6, and that's Namco. SC6 should have gotten a higher budget (aka more people assigned to make the game). At least it's looking like we're getting a second season pass.

Crunch is at the top of the reasons as to why we have these issues, with it being very commonplace in most AAA game spaces. Part of the reason is because many overarching decisions for the game that needs to be made isn't being done and often is dragged out over a longer period of time, or some crucial component isn't being managed properly so everything gets pushed back and takes longer.

Those stories are still very common, you take a look at LA Noire, Anthem (DA:I) and MK11 most recently if you want to hear about nightmares during crunch. This pretty much happened because short bursts of crunch near the end of the development cycle leads to a massive productivity increase, but higher ups only saw the increase and the not the cost and have been trying to extend it for longer periods of time each year. Ends up having a negative impact on many releases which you can see in a lot of releases.

Sectus is right though, the reason we have less content isn't on Project Soul's side. It's true they probably could have done things to get more money from them, but that could have also lead to them changing a lot more things on the game side that would have lead to a huge amount of issues from us. Okubo is the guy who allocates the funds and makes sure progress is heading towards the right direction. Namco is the company that gives Okubo the tools to do his job, and they want to see clear results on their investment before giving more funds.

Hard to say seeing as we have no idea what the cost and expected monetary returns were for SC6. Compared to other publishers Bandai Namco at least allows passionate game developers to develop the games they want whereas publishers nuke studios for not reaching unreasonable sales. If season 2 is a reality it will no doubt fully flesh out the game, I just hope with a season 2 we get more stages with the new characters.

Indeed I had forgotten to mention the Netcode because I wasn’t sure if it was just on my end that was spotty.

But part of the reason why I’ve felt so disappointed with SC6 is that it’s never felt *right* in that aspect.

As opposed to tekken 7 where I can hop on and find people quick and painless with a much smoother online experience and more criteria
