1.03 Tier List Discussion (aka Argument)

This is basically my old tier list from page 35 again with some changes.

S: Hilde, Algol
A: Kilik, Amy, Voldo, Setsuka, X
B: Soph, Asta, Cervy, Lizard, Yoshi
C: Raph
D: Zas, Maxi
E: Mina

Still a lot of undecided from me.
C or B: Nightmare, Sieg, Cass, Mitsu
D or C: Rock, Vader
E or Yoda tier: Yoda
dunno: tira, talim, ivy, yun, taki, apprentice

How is yours better when you are undecided on half the cast?
 
Cause it's more accurate for the ones who I am decided about. :)

you really think noface knows enough to rank ALL the characters accurately? no one does. tiers are a rough guideline not an exact science

I like your S and A tiers, but I think Yoshi also should be in A.
 
my opinion of yoshi continues to drop the more I play the game. he has range problems and he's extremely sidesteppable (dragonfly included). dragonfly stance is good but it's possible to react to his mixup from it, diminishing it's use against players with great reflexes

he does have good damage, mixup, and attack speed, but I feel his range and step problems are enough to keep him firmly out of A tier, but I'll put him back into B for now
 
Yeah, I never understood what's dangerous about dragonfly. If you duck, you will either go under his high A-attack or block his unsafe low K-attack. If you see the B-attack, just stand up and block. Someone fill me in on why you would use that stance? Because of possible transition into super dragonfly?

But personally, I would never put Yoshi below B-tier.
 
yeah you're right, he should never go below B

dragonfly is dangerous if you get hit because everything from it does a lot of damage, that's the main thing I suppose.
 
Yoshi can compensate for his range and step issues through aggressive, but safe play. iMCF is key, of course. Tier lists assume people are playing a character at the highest level. This means 100% iMCF whenever.

Higher level Yoshi game play does not revolve around Dragonfly, so I don't see why it's really a factor here. That's like saying Amy's entire game revolves around her options from A+K and 3BA. Those moves don't win entire matches, but are still great tools when used sparingly.

Edit: It's doubtful a Yoshi playing at the highest level would try and abuse DGF or even use it in a predictable manner in which it could be easily blocked, stepped, avoided, etc.

Tiers are largely opinion based and like you said "not an exact science." That being said, how can you say your tier list is more "accurate?" I'm confused.

There's a lot of other 3D fighters outside of those. Fate/Unlimited Codes, Samurai Showdown Sen, all those KoF ones. Don't think it's fair to say 'all' are 'balanced' lol.

My opinion is that mine is more accurate because my opinion is more accurate. circular reasoning ftw

Of course I could just do something like this:

Figures I'd choose a main in the C range.
 
C tier has decent characters who are ok in most matchups but probably have a couple that suck. D is when you start getting kinda crappy

sieg is a solid character with neither overwhelming strengths nor glaring weaknesses. I think the game is generally well balanced so keep that in mind
 
This is more along the lines of semantics, but since the game is fairly well balanced, I feel we could adapt the S++ to F ranking system like the Japanese do. Of course, due the the balance we could get away with only using the tiers S to B, with tiers such as A+, B+, etc to demonstrate the closeness of the tiers.

While I would love to use a C tier as my main, there is no way Cassandra is that low.
 
Vane: hello :) I think its fair to tell me to consider 66B and 8WRA+B. Still in analysing these in comparison to X's options.. X still wins imo.

66B 66B can be just ukemied. So its damage potential is too iffy in a tournament situation IMO. Its not like Step B or FC3B which cant be just ukemied.

66A+B can be telegraphed, unlike the two mids im referring to for X.

Amy's auto-GIs are terrific tools. X also has good auto-GIs too, though not as terrific. X probably loses as far as auto-GIs are concerned. but in appreciating their reverse games, i think that X's is slightly superior... or maybe even about equal.

I also think that X has a better wall and RO game. but thats point to discuss
 
Here is my tier list. I think it's superior to Tiamat's because I posted later than he did (jk)
