Cervy is really good. Lets leave it at that. How he compares to other characters doesn't matter unless you're discussing anti-strats for or against him.

Yeah, I know your tier list was a joke, that's cool. However, I meant that you are one of the few people in here w/tournament experience and success, vs other people who haven't accomplished anything and are so certain they know what they are talking about. I just wish the days tier discussions had good players talking instead of theory fighters. You're right overall, matchups are more important than what the char can do.
 
Nori no disrescpect and all that, but wow, i have so big expactations for you, since you always set the bar higher and higher and higher and unfortunately you are not backing up anything either. I didnt see any newer Vids of your Top Tier Cervantes till now and you didnt place 1st, correct me if im wrong.It seems like you play the same guys over and over again, but in the End its ICE COLD who placed first with Sigfried, again.

In my eyes, dont get me wrong. you i know i love you, you cant blame people for posting here and not placing first, cause you are one of them, too. You dont have that many Top Players in SA, i always see the same guys in Results. So dont blame people for not backing up, placing Top in a Tourney with 9 people is nothing special nor does in back up anything.

I am so fucking curious what is going to happen in that Tourney where all the NoCA PLayers will attend, think thats in June or July....

I work w/what I have. I do travel and I play people in Dallas also (5 hours is not exactly a drive I want to take often unless it's a tournemant). ICE came in and wrecked shop. Me and him have always beat each up each other in tournaments since SC2, so it's no surprise. He's solid as shit. I don't think you need to place 1st to prove a char is top tier.

And again, many top players agree w/me and primarily, they are TX/Cali players. Both states have always known what they are doing in FGs. I never record vids of myself. That one tournament, GK did and I got destroyed. However, I'm more than confident I will place at the Houston regional and I plan to, as always, silence a lot of doubters.
 
Of course i dont expect you to travel 5 hours to proof anything, i have the same problems...but yo cant blame people for not having a name since not everybody has the luck to play a huge scene without paying hundreds of dollars for 5 h trips...:)

We should all discuss way more Anti Strats in the Soul arena instead of arguing over tiers over and over again...i for myself will stop with this post, its really pointless. we dont even have one Cervantes vs . Character XY Thread....

Matchups DECIDING tiers vs everything else makes more sense, I agree 100%.
 
Yeah matchups are better when it comes to deciding tiers. I think this discussion would be a lot more productive if everyone worked together to make a table with all the scores on it... like what the french and japanese do. Then again i think only some people should be allowed to give input, while some should reserve their comments.
 
I would make a chart but I'm not sure how to go about making one. Maybe someone else could and we could fill stuff in.
 
Maybe we could take the chart of the french communinity as a start and keep on discussing the matchups...since we have Hayate, Maxou and some others as active Members they can explain what there thoughts were...

The discussion should have some rules, like always explaining in details why Char XY can do this and that against Char ZX...which moves can be punished or cant be punished, especially which Key Moves do not work etc etc...one sentence posts should be deleted, just like opinions without any details.

X is way better than Rock without backing up does not contribute, even if its obvious.

Hope you know what i mean...
 
I'd rather start from scratch than follow the french one. They don't have even have Algol and star wars characters listed and I heavily disagree with a lot of the matchup ranks (nearly all the nightmare ones for example).
 
Where is the French list?

Also, Nori, I'm gonna be in Dallas soon-ish, I think. You should come up again and receive an ass-whupping. =)

we just need to make a chart of our own. theirs is all fancy and pretty and junk. need the chart before we can fill in the numbers...

I agree. Although first, I'd like to get some other top players in on this conversation instead of people who never enter tournaments, cause that list will just be misleading otherwise. Maybe we can pick 1 char a day and break down what they can/can't do to each char, etc as far as matchups? I'm all for better ideas

Yeah, EP told me you would be up there in March. However, I'm getting married this month so I'm a LITTLE busy my man:( Will you still be here in April? I'm going to Houston regionals (4/11) but maybe when I get back from my honeymoon (probably around 4/5) I can spend another weekend in Dallas. If not, we'll play for sure at TiT

I'd definitely say start from scratch. That list is at least 30-40% abject lunacy.

Nori: Doubt I'll be there in April. You can just admit that you're scared to face me, though. You don't need to take drastic steps like getting married just to duck out of some casual games. ;) Congrats, man.

Honestly, it all seriousness, they are going to introduce us as "Mr. and Mrs Acosta" with the Rocky Theme Song. I'm not even joking, it's gonna be pretty epic. I will try to record it and post it online haha

Hates: Yes, I went as far as getting married to avoid you. Hell the next time you want to play me, I'll probably volunteer for a NASA trip to Saturn so I can avoid you another 5-7 years.
 
I dont think the French ranking is utter junk. I think it is the most correct effort i've seen in determining the tiers.

Still I think the drawback of having matchups to be the determinant of the tiers, is the fact that many communities don't have a high level player for each character... or at least a high level of understanding of every character and their matchups. So this can be solved if every knowledgable person contributes what he/she knows best about his/her character. This is too hard to realise tho IMO... but its worth a shot.

anyway.... i don't think the chart has to be as well done as the french's. I think a simple black and white table with the character initials at the left side and the top is enough. Then we just fit in a number 1-10 in each slot.
