Algol General Discussion / Q&A

KingAce: who's unblockable was it?

also regrettably the fun bonus character topic was closed. hopefully more fun will spring from it.

my friend from Brazil tells me algol is allowed there and people do not really debate about him anymore =)

The way it should be.

When BD arrives, Algol would be allowed again, I'm 100% sure. The argument of bubble shield is now null since GI those now moves you closer to him. Can't wait to play Algol without all this mumbo jumbo.

Ivy's UB the one you have to duck, I was in point blank range...lol.

im thinking it will just alow algol to get free hits

because of the GI animation is longer

why try at a game when you can just ban what you dont like?

We need more Algol vids people, well I need them...the game has evolved since way back then. So Algol's game should have as well....need my study info. So please get to it. lol

- don't try to press grab mixups or try to CF. his strength is his mid/low mixups so focus on that, though none of his unseeable lows give knockdowns or lots of damage
- single B is good for pressure. depending on the range you should use different followups like 11K 1A 2B+K 1B etc
- 6A+B step right is + on block and GI unless too close
- ending combos with 2B lets you go to 6A+B or QI for pressure, though you'll have to delay the QI moves a bit if you want to hide the trails
- use parry instead of GI against characters with strong CF games
- when 2B+K hits do 2B to beat neutral/back tech and play dead (side tech to one side for some characters). side tech evades it but you are safe on whiff. if you predict side tech do a dash into a mid/throw mixup since you are very close

vids I'd say look at whodat's vids from the TX tourney, I probably won't be putting up any of my algol anytime soon

I love 2B...sure as hell appreciate the info.

Now does anybody know why 2A whiffs against Ivy in point blank range.

I haven't fought Ivy enough to notice that problem.

That post was pretty much a summary of all the main stuff I've learned or been reminded of in the past few months, so ask if you want a more detailed explanation of any of the points.

I never had that problem KingAce. I guess it would have to do with the situations that you use 2A in vs the situations I use 2A in.

As I was telling Tiamat in our numerous conversations, I wouldn't suggest looking at my vids and learning Algol from them. I believe that I play Algol in a way that he really shouldn't be played. If you knew me you would know that I play most characters unconventional. I say come up with a style that works for you and then evolve from there.

tia i like throw mix ups because algols throws leave him with excellent position

66A+G leaves you far away which is where i like to be as algol

B+G alows you to do BT mix ups

Nobody said that Algol's throws weren't good. Tiamat means that with a lot of characters in this game you go for throw mixups. With Algol you really shouldn't because you really shouldn't be fighting at throw range for the most part.

Yeah, see I play without the bubble shield, so I think that causes me to play at all of Algol's whiffing ranges.
Seriously Algol without the bubbles is really down there. Throws do make the bubbles despair, so that makes perfect sense to me.

algol is good without bubbles

but the bubbles make some interesting frame traps up close

so i dont think they are useless up close

Everyone got mad at the way that I used Algol in that Texas tournament, but I really didn't even spam bubbles. I could have been so much worse. I use bubbles to set up combos while other people use bubbles to try and keep people out. There are a few matches that bubbles don't even help you at all.

yeah i use them to setup combos

because of 4(A+B)'s bubbles hitting a blocking opponent at different times it can be tricky if you dont know how to deal with it

I play Algol as an offensive Guile.

Bubbles = Sonic Boom. 11K, 1A, BB, 44K, 44B and 2B+K are evil with that approach.

I like Algol mostly in your face or close to mid range.

Yeah not using them is kinda retarded. I mean it's a good tool to have. That's like not using dragon punches in street fighter.
