Astaroth and Viola Announced at TGS

Tokyo Game Show started today (half a day ago, due to timezones) and already a metric ton of information has been released about various fighting games for the upcoming year. Soul Calibur V is of course no exception with Famitsu getting the details on two new confirmed characters!

The first revealed character is a returning favorite... Astaroth; who if my math is correct, is now 23 years old. The second new character is "Viola"; who attacks with disembodied jewels, very similar to Z.W.E.I. She is working with Z.W.E.I. to accomplish something or another.

And we'll have a white knight with a huge arm wielding a a long sword. He's a got a raspy voice but he's called Dream.

No, he's not a reformed Nightmare, I assure you... He's just a new character called Dream.

the Zwei argument is VERY valid. This character is linked to Zwei and both are presented as new. In order for this to all be Amy...she would need to:

• Lose her connection to Raph
• Forget her rapier Style
• Forget her fight style
• Gain a connection to Zwei
• Gain new Powers
• Likely lose her vampire powers (what they were i dunno, but it comes up a lot or somethin)
• Learn a new weapon
• Completely become someone that is not anything of Amy in regards to origin, gameplay, and style beyond hair/costume and somehow feel like this is a good idea for Amy fans. "Hi this is Ivy----err Rosalita...she uses hammer, has a rival cousin who's a mummy, and never mind that one gauntlet and thong... " -_______________-

I learned to use the nunchaku in three so im sure an extra 14 years is enough time for all that to occur

 

In order for this to all be Amy...she would need to:

Just guessing here, but I don't think Ivy was wielding a magical sword when she was a kid. Yet 17 years later she was.

According to his bio, Voldo briefly had those powers and then lost them.

In 17 years, which is longer then Amy's entire life up until SCIV.

Completely become someone that is not anything of Amy in regards to origin

Also known as character design. If a new nunchuck person came in and wore a vest jacket, they could try to stretch it and pass it off as a style all nunchuck dandies of the sea wear. But once you give him elvis style hair, then he's Maxi.(side note...I wish they had the guts to have maxi's hair fall out or something.)

Yup, apparently so. We were warned the roster would go through a major overhaul from the start. Amy's not any more special than the other characters that aren't coming back the same or at all. Looks like they had an idea for a new character going forward with the series and decided to repurpose an existing character for it.

 

Okay guyz, so i looked at a hi-res pic of Amy and a hi-res pic of Viola and their skin tones are even different, along with their faces. So I went ahead and looked at a hi res of Hilde in SCIV and now in SCV and she still looks like Hilde in her face. Just because you get older it does not mean that your whole face changes...now, even if this was Amy, shouldn't all of the gamers that use Amy as a main be pissed off? I mean damn, they changed EVERY aspect about Amy. She doesn't even have her fighting style anymore. If Project Soul did something like this with Talim, I personally would be pissed. I know Amy is a secondary character, but changing her so much so that she doesn't even use the same weapon or fighting style doesn't seem like something Project Soul would do to their fans.

unless you play her tales of souls mode and unlock an extra character whom of which is amy with her old discipline back. Amy fans will jump out of their seat with excitement if this happens. Not unlike in SC1 when you finished with Nightmare and got Sigfried. Faces do change as you get older. Especially if you refer to the stylization of anime. Now i don't know how different the renderings are. But we are talking the stylization of 17 years difference.

well, as you know, Astaroth is a golem. A thing made of clay, or whatever minerals, that was made to come to life. And so Astaroth has been around for about 23 years. I believe his body may have a high copper content and he has been oxidizing. Plus, with all that thrashing about, he's needed to sew some casings around his parts to keep from crumbling.

My point is not that lines can't be drawn...it's just there's so much line drawing to do it's a whole another character in the end and it is completely pointless to have it be Amy. It's like one of those really pretentious movies that thinks it's clever because it's complicated...then when you piece it together it's retarded.

Hilde could've gotten a sex change, decided green socks were the shit in fashion, and lead a new life based on mole fetish porn in 17 years...but she didn't because that would be retarded (or awesome...still on the fence about that one)...but fuck if i haven't pulled out my fanfic pen and started drawing my own lines!

From the character select screen we have seen, there is space for 30. I assume someone at game informer went "Oh! 8 Per row! 4 Rows.... Grab the calculator out... 32!"... didn't even bother to note the clock in the middle of the selection...

Of course, if there are DLC/Random/Guest behind the countdown clock, then Ill appear to be the asshole.

Your kinda right. Just remember, everybody: we need to count down from this 8x4 grid the slots for Random, Create a Soul p1, CASp2, if we're lucky, a slot for a bonus char drop-down menu, and of course the guest character. Now Random could multiply by "Random Character", "The character who uses random weapons", and "CaS Random instant junk char"—just if they want to piss us off.

Lee Chaolan took the alter-ego "Violet" in Tekken 4.

JayCee is Julia Chang in the upcoming release of Tekken Tag 2.

Both are even from the same company... Viola being Amy is certainly a possibility, though I'm not saying I think she is. At least if Amy comes back she'll likely receive a change of wardrobe. I hated her SCIV design, no offence to Amy fans. Regardless of if she's Amy or not, I'm liking Viola.

Also, if she is Amy, then Raphael has to come back as THE fencer of SC. Hopefully cured and just an arrogant nobleman again instead of a vampire, but that's unlikely. He could totally pull off the middle-aged, stuck up noble character. Ah well, you win some, you lose some. I'll just be happy to see my main back, and hopefully higher-tiered.

Also, Astaroth's new design is my favorite one yet! And the stages look incredible! And it's good to see SC characters finally finding love XD Xianghua and Kilik (though they likely aren't in the game), Sieg and Hilde, Zwei and Viola

It's the attack of the couples! Haha

Okay, sorry I may have had a posting problem. First, your right about JC but Violet was just an alias. But I don't know whether that would count or not.
Also I have a quick question. Didn't Amy like hide herself from mankind after becoming a vampire? So the only person that knows what she looks like is Raphael. I'm at least considering the possibility that Viola is Amy, but I just want a story that makes sense. (Please ignore any problems with the post.

Have you seen many 'instances' in a fighting game when you could charge yourself right off the stage and lose?

That's one of the very realistic things soulcalibur and a all other fighting games do, or should do. Don't expect to slide at the edge without falling off when your at the grand canyon.

 

I honestly think Viola might be Amy, but until we have more information on the subject, I don't think it's really a topic worth arguing about for 20 thread pages.. Just sayin'.

I like the idea of Amy Sorel as vampire. SC4 makes Raphael look like it but where are they called vampires in SC4? Where are Amy's fangs? Where does she drink blood? Where does SC4 say she's immortal and 14 forever?

Here's a idea: Kilik 'cured' Amy in SC3. Maybe she was cured of soul edge and has no memory of who she was before cure and THAT was how Viola was born.

That was in Raphael's ending. And because of the story line in IV, it wasn't the right one. So she's possibly still a vamp. I'm typing like crazy today. Ugh

 

So, I think I've got this almost figured out..
All Just actions make the character glow blue, Just guard, just attacks, etc.
All Brave Edge attacks make the character glow red.

What does yellow do? In the trailer, Astaroth glows yellow with the 2B+G throw add-on. :x

You're gonna feel so stupid for posting this if it IS Amy. Last time someone was this arrogant was when someone said that 100% that sillouette was Raphael and that the discussion was retarded. Then we saw Zwei.

If Viola is not Amy then she is a crazy Amy cosplayer. She has more A's on her costume then Superman got S's.

Like said before me, anyone who does not see that Viola looks like a grown-up Amy is blind or stupid.
