Ivy SCIV->SCV Changes

Ring, you should've posted THE photo, not this one above. Pfff... :P.

But yeah, the new Ivy does seem to be pretty much limited and weak which makes me sad, eventhough I don't like playing against Ivy in general. Between SCIV and SCV it's just as though you used to reach skyscrapers and now you can only climb a small hill.

Hey, Keev managed it in SCIV with Nightmare - this isn't the end of the world, besides there are still some changes to be made before release followed by the patches. =/
 
Nice to read you Ring and Di. So you are back safe in Poland. Did you manage to go to the Eiffel Tower in the end ?

We have not enough knowledge to speack about the top character in my opinion.
Pantocrator said that Sieg is not strong and that people complain about it because of knowledge. 3B can be punished by CE, auto-Gi can be re-Gi, 22BB can be punished and so on and so on...
Keev told me that Pyrrha don't have any 236236B, 236236B=236B in the end which means it's never safe. 1A is a tricky low that can be blocked on reaction, most of her tools are mid, and so on...
Mitsu... is already nerfed ahahah 2KB unsafe on hit now !

On Ivy,
On the TGS build, Kira find a way to punish 214B consistently. You can block the forst part on the move and JG the second part (we didn't check GI), and then punish with ZWEI AA at least. Else only K can punish it.

CS motion is 2 8 2 8 4 6 6 6 B+G.

The 22 move is still strange. Can't remember how, but I'm 100% sure that I did 5JF at Kayane's session.

I can understand why you didnt' like the new Ivy, considering the way you play in SC4 with many different moves and strats. But she is far from weak.

From I've seem when you played her on the main stage, there is no difference in the new build. But this is far from the last build, so I'm convince that many things will change till the game comes out. A+B A and 214A has to be change, that's for sure.
 
NM has been limited since SC III while Ivy has always been a very interesting character and in SC IV she was ingenious. That's a huge difference between these two Ivys and prolly a big drawback for the players.

66[A] sounds worser than I thought. Can be interupted with AA in btn on block....
22B,BBB also interuptable by an AA? I thought steppable was bad already.
CE- Mbe the guy was inputting duck before freeze frame?
6B2_8 the nerf is so sad. There is just guard for countering pushback and ppl can step creep like in SC4.

Also they need to give CL 2A range for SW 2A. I mean... she doesnt even have SW 6A. :(

I dont understand how can a team working on a balance just nerf bat 70% of the things she have or remove. Well.... this friday a stream at 9pm JST will happen from Project Soul with their Design team. Hopefully they are willing to discuss things....

It's the input that matters, not the animation. When I think about this I'm quite sure that if you do 2[G] before the CE animation you can duck it (you aren't ducking before) but if you are crouching and you stand up (input-wise, not animation-wise) before CE you eat the throw. That's the only meaningful possibility I can think of at the moment. If you play Mortal Kombat and think about its fuzzy guard you know what I mean.

A lot of moves have now SC3 properties. It's debatable iwhether that's a good thing or not. I know the game still hasn't been released but I personally don't believe she is going to change much.

I only did CS twice, both on 2P side. It definitely feels awkward at the moment. I was wondering about one thing - since there is no command list, how come the Japanese players were able to find the new input? If I had not asked Oosaka about the new input we probably wouldn't even know how to do it.

It was only my impression, but we can't deny that almost all other characters can do more damage than Ivy. There are a lot of things we don't know yet about her but to me she doesn't look very strong right now.

No, that wasn't the first time. Malek had used it before me but it was a different camera angle (old build). I was able to record the old animation using Di's camera. Hopefully he will upload it sometime soon.

That is soooo true. I hope to go to Paris again next year for a SC5 tournament.

And great news that Di's probably back for SC5! Hope you can convince more people in Poland to (re)start playing Soul Calibur.

I will be posting videos later this week (Ring vs. Chris and Keysona, maybe some more if more were recorded by me), as well as a FT5 match Ring vs. Keysona in SC IV.

I am not sure if me myself is going to be enough but I'll do my best for sure.
 
from what i've seen in the demo's and whatnot, it appears they've removed all of ivy's stances, she starts the round off in sword state, and does all of her moves from sword state. i just got into ivy in soul calibur 4, and i love her, but they're turning her into something... undesirable...
 
I wouldn't count on that given that the game is supposed to be released in 3 months. Hopefully they will fix A+B,A at the very least.

I figured since they still have more characters to reaveal we still have a chance. If not ill just have to stick it out until the first patch comes through and hope there's a new bucket of tools and refinments in that similar to what i do with Rose in SF4 series( Plz dont do Ivy like how Cap does Rose, PrjSoul).

Also Ring, you said that {B},B was luancher punishable is that from up close or do you mean from mid range?

I think another reason why Ivy is so basic is so that ppl that have to play against her will have less to worry about.

Any range. I was very surprised with that. The move does have a lot of range but it does not deserve to be so terribly unsafe. You can't even do a single long range B, if you press [ B ] you will always get both hits, no delay and no cancel.

I also have some concerns regarding 6B8 BE. It does not seem to do much more damage than standard 6B8 or 9A+B. I hope there is something else than a flashy animation that makes up for using 50% of meter.

Um there were command list cards on the table and iirc CS was on the list.

With {B}, nobody would even think that's launcher punishable. :S Atleast its NHC.

Thats something infuriating with current trends of fighting games. Get rid of it so the lazy player don't have to spend time learning their matchups. :(

Ring, give lick BE more credit with a title instead of flashy animation. Refer to it as "Lance of Longinus" or "serpents arrow". :P
 
I'm not 100% sure but I think that it is possible to follow up 6B8 BE with a wall combo. I'll have to check the videos I recorded to see whether or not I am wrong.

I actually had a little hope for this move. I figured it would proabably be pretty unsafe up close but decent or possibly even have advantage at range because iirc it causes a FC on Block right. So I assumed at range you at very least would be safe, but to hear you tell me that its launcher punishable from Any range! (inclunging far range?) Is horrible, I have to wonder why make a move this bad?

I agrre Davo there are matches i struggle wtih but to just dumb(especially to this lvl. A coulpe nerfs are one thing but come on the complete omition of moves and whole stances? c'mon son that overkill.) the character down so its easier for me to play isn't making/helping me get any better.

I like Serpents Arrow ^_^
 
Thanks for your impressions Ring. It is no surprise that you think she's weak, every Ivy player says this every time a new SC comes out XD. Except the humble and reasonable Malek.

Btw I had no trouble doing 5-hit JF in London. The input is 22 [ B ] B : B : B : B : B. You just hit B when the whip hits your opponent. I am not by any means an execution expert but I found it much easier than SCIV version, which I could almost never do.
 
Damn, and that arrow move was so cool, too. So at this point what's her best strategy to beating Mitsurugi? Astaroth? Natsu?
