Namco Reveals Nightmare, Raphael and Leixia!

Okay, so technically, we all knew these characters were coming... Nightmare was leaked by Daishi several months ago on his Twitter, Leixia was soft-announced at this year's EVO, and Raphael was pseudo-revealed through some clever detective work dealing with the resumés of musicians.

I myself got a chance to play these characters and more at the closed-door press conference earlier in the week and I will give some short impressions about them, and the game in general tomorrow. There are many more announcements coming during the next few weeks, so keep paying attention!

Nightmare.

Its all I needed to see.

 

Nightmare continues to be the BEST designed character in ANY game. Period.

And that does look like flesh under there, pretty sure for SC3 SC4 there was no flesh, just a possesed suit of armor.

Also, I heart Calibur.

 

They didn't have breast reduction surgery in early 17th Century

Yet they had breast enlargement.

 

WOW! This just gets more and more beautiful every time I see it!

I would like to make an apology on my belief in the "Sophie-Mare" theory. It seemed like a very valid theory, with the crazy voice of Sophie bein' in one of the trailers, and the fact that they kept showin' her holdin' the SE right before they'd show Nightmare. And I always believed that Nightmare was goin' to hold the Main SE, and since the SE was a short sword this time around, I though it had to be true...Oh how wrong I was....Though, I still do think Sophie will come back as the holder of the new SE [hopefully, she'll dual-wield both SC and SE, and become somethin' like a "new Algol" [sans the bubblegun and the blades comin' out of her body]], I'm glad that I was wrong because Nightmare looks truly BADASS! He kinda looks like a gundam...It looks like he indeed received a new host. I wonder who it is...?

Ralph finally looks cool again. His design's been deterioratin' as each iteration came, but he finally looks as cool as he did in SCII. I can't wait to see him in action!

Leixia looks a lot better than I thought she was goin' to look! I think she's goin' to be as good as X was in SCII.

The stages are lookin' more and more amazin' every time they show a new one!

All in all, The game's becomin' more beautiful after every reveal. I can't wait to see more!

So her name is swallows? Oh Japan, you scamps.

That asides she's certainly looking nice in her concept art. Showing a lot of leg and all of the shoulders, oh my. And she certainly has a nice... crystal?

Though in game I can't help but feel the whole "lotus" aspect is coming on a little strong. She's cute though. Maybe I just have to get used to it. Maybe we'll just have to see what the 2p looks like. Main thing is though, I wonder how the X players like it. Would like to hear from them on it. She's definitely a lot closer spiritually to X than Natsu was to Taki.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who thought about that, but I didn't want to write it down.

As for Raph?

Did anyone notice Raph's Left hand?

For that matter, notice the angle of the blade between these two shots:

That kind of flexibility would be difficult with a blade attached at the wrist.

What I do think is that I dig the new hat. It has a total witchhunter vibe. But the coat is disappointing. It needs to be bigger, longer, drapier.

Nightmare? Never did dig the "I am unicorn" look for him, and they've been running with that look for 3 games now. However the sword has an eye in it and is generally resembling it's soul calibur 2 glory.

As for those stages? DEM STAGES. The temple and shop fire are particularly beautiful to me.

 

Best Nightmare design since SC/SC2. Both Ralph and Leixia look alright too.

 

The triangular stage will probably have some interesting ring-out and spacing dynamics in the corners and all. The art style is looking really fantastic and unique, it especially shows in these new stages

Nightmare now... He reminds me of his SC2 version (most favourite of all time) soooo much and I like him a lot now! He looks epic and rejuvenated. Hmm... he must have found a host, but who?
BTW, I must be practising my Siegfried more now :P

Yup, I think it's been said before but that's Killik's crystal that kept him from going cwazy.

 

How'bout them animal motifs. Raph obviously has bats. Leixia has plenty of flowers, but I can't really see much else... maybe something on her knots or sword. And Nightmare?

Eh, never was a fan of nightmare, and I'm still not. How many times are they gonna rehash this same boring old story? I was so hoping for Sophmare.

That hat on Raph looks stupid. I guess it's appropriate for the time period though. Very... Puritan.

I like Leixia's hair. The rings are cute. Not a big fan of her poofy shoulders and blouse or their washed-out blue color though. I think they really went overboard with the flower blossom theme. And in typical SC5 fashion, her concept art looks great, but the 3d model looks like she's wearing granny panties under that translucent skirt. Though maybe it's just the angle.

The stages look incredible though. I especially love the forest.
