Only the the character that it's being done too. It's nature only adds another brutal level of honesty to the show that pleases fans. Just another reason why Berserk is so famous/
I appreciate its honesty and storytelling, not the brutality necessarily. I see where you are coming from, but I still disagree that the rape is to Berserk as panty shots are to Rosario + Vampire.

In my opinion it's about intent. Most of what I consider fan service, is something that doesn't really add anything to the story itself. Really what fan service does, is take you out of immersion and tell you, "hey reader/viewer...here's a panty shot."

It's something a kin to when you're watching a movie, and a character looks at the screen, affirming the existence of the third party audience.

And that's why I hate fan service in most cases, sometimes it's funny most times it kills the immersion. Anything that doesn't take me out of the immersion of the story but enhances it, I cannot consider fan service. At least as far as the word is used pertaining to anime/manga.

For example in Wolf Guy(awesome manga minor spoiler)

Wolf guy has a pretty intense rape scene that can be considered straight up hentai...but the more graphic it gets the more emotion it adds to the event. Through it I would say you might feel horny at first. But you might also feel intense rage for the perpetrators, and sympathy for the victim's life...considering the scene is being filmed for the world to see. You could very well say the writer goes too far. But at the end of it he emotionally has you in a bloodlust. You want revenge, you want justice, you want those motherfuckers dead. And I don't think the writer could get that emotion out of you without taking the steps he does.

The definition of something is rare opinionated. Fanservice isn't one of those things. Fanservice is anything thrown in for the fans, ANYTHING. This isn't meant only for sexual things, it's literally anything. Any and all fanservice can be directly embued with the story, the reason it was created or why it's bad, it doesn't matter. So it is what it is, you can try and justify some things over others but it ins't because it ISN'T fanservice.

you know what we're talking about. the word Fanservice has been stapled to nowadays.

Anybody else likes Full Metal Panic? It's a classic, no?

I even bought the DVDs.
I never got around to watching all of The second raid, fumoffu, and I hardly remember the first one very well. One of my first animes alongside DN Angel and a few others. Not counting childhood ones like DBZ, Sailor Moon, Ronin Warriors and all that.

I love FMP, one of KyoAni's early shining works in terms of animation and writing. Season 1 was quite good, FUMOFFU was hilarious, and Second Raid was downright godlike.

Can't wait for the sequel manga to be made into anime.

That's just your opinion. When enough people are using a word differently than the original meaning long enough they add a new meaning to the word. Anime fans have given it a new meaning. It is like how "gay" did not originally refer to homosexuals. Old meanings remain but get overshadowed.

Damn right it was! And I loved Fumoffu even though they were all filler episodes. Good fillers are pretty gold.
And there have been rumors about a sequel for the anime. But was it actually true? I would be pretty satisfied if it would.

And they'd all be WRONG that's how it works. It doesn't matter how it's commonly used now, it matters what it means. It can mean both things, as it often does, and does in a situation like "fanservice", than it doesn't matter what you or anyone says. Fanservice is fanservice.

For FMP, ive heard no confirmation on the sequel being animated at all, it's just wishful thinking.

Lol Japan. I want them to make new stuff that's good. Not attempt to remake the old good stuff. Personally I think remaking something kinda down plays the original especially when it wasn't the long ago.

Just finished a nice bunch including the index series ( which was amazing imo, really can't wait for the movie and next season ) Also the lost canvas was much better than I first thought it would be.

Just finished needless, was pretty boss and the intro was amazing.
Also caught up on my One Piece, I really want to put that show in my top 10, It's great!
Lastly, I am either going to watch Pandora hearts or Shiki next, hopefully they will be good.

So then, im awaiting for Hayate the Combat Butler season 3 since they stated it was going to be animated in the fall this year. Also looking into Kingdom as someone stated awhile back. hopefully that will keep me busy in between, Detective Conan, One Piece, Hunter x Hunter and etc...lol

just finished Read or Die the t.v. last night. I was very disappointed with the last episode. It felt very rushed. hell the last 3 episodes did. oh well. i'm watchin' Zoids again. reminding me of Toonami back in my elementary school days.
