Raphael video thread!

Kyper, you have a nice Raphael, and I really liked that Ivy matchup....because it reminded me so much of myself....always a struggle, always play well vs her..and ALWAYS inevitably lose. -_-......

What's our knowledge of the Ivy matchup for Raphael? mid range, Ivy's 234B SE just evades any prep offensive you can start and you're looking at a quarter of your lifebar gone, Ivy's combo's are the sickest crap out there so you HAVE TO play things safe, I can't figure out how to shake ANY of her combo's like I can with Amy or Yun Sung, sidestepping, a big part of my game, gets you murdered vs Ivy.....I hear Pendragonfall doesn't even waste time using Raphael vs Ivy...is their any hope?

Edge plays agressive Raph unlike me. You can see how OyM fares against him while showing off his mad step skills. Initially OyM won 10-3
 
i honestly think raph cant be played aggressively

because of his crappy anti step you have to plan your moves and not just go all out
 
I think Edge plays a very good raph, he beat a lot of strong players with this character. It's true that raph anti step is not so great, but if you can apply good pressure it may be difficult for your opponent to react, although players of OyM caliber can still react to most game situations accordingly (poor Edge T_T)
 
yes ...since 2A to him is a lot more important than your regular rush down whores.

Naturally... they'll come to raphael, and THEN it's up-close n personal time..where you can rely on 2A anti step, 6K's TJ, or 4B's TC and 44B just for plain awesomeness. The thing is if u get a knockdown...do you back up or keep applying pressure ?
 
I dont use 2A to stop step at all, I dont even find it useful with raph. With this character I rely on reverse mixups and spacing. if they try to space me they will have to consider I will too and 90% characters cant beat raph in ranged game. It's all in the vids.

yes and also against step with agressive raph: SEA B tracks left step SEA A right, VE will track. if you pressure your opp in prep and mix SEA and VE with other stuff its almost impossible to reliably step. Its really a bad luck for Edge than OyM could handle his game so well.
 
i find that 22B covers step ok

im using 22B as a poke now

seeing as it soul crushes in 10 and has ok tracking and is -14

because they will roll to his weak side

and you will only get 2K

if they dont know raph 66A+B

Belial, first time I saw your Raph in action. Nice spacing game you play. Loved the back dashes.

Here's a match of my Raph... there should be more coming up... still learning Raph ... personally i find him to be much under-rated by others...


any comments welcomed.. i'm still learning raph... there are a couple of places i got lucky like.. CF messed up his block/whiff punish or i didn't get runged out hhahaha

but overall i think this was a pretty entertaining match....

I do find raph very versatile, he can play pitbull or turtly, he can play at pretty much any range decently... and in most cases he's got some pretty moves....

Really can't critique much Lau, you got the spacing down, especially with BB. Just know 6BB for punishment, Less prep game vs Cass(Her 2B+K beats all options except VE), And when you're at advantage I like to go for SG damage with stuff like 11B, Prep A+B(only if they keep falling for it, then it goes back to once in awhile), SEA/SEB B....etc.
 
i saw a few things

you were treating BB like it has good frames

up close only use B, its -0

unlike BB which is - on hit

BB should only be used at tip range because at that range its garbage frames dont matter

also BB ACTUALLY GETS YOU CLOSER TO YOUR OPPONET

nice use of AA though

AA is good at spacing

the last thing is 44B IS A BEAST when your opponent is at AAs tip range

good ish though

i do know about BB being 'not that good' on hit..... but imo it doesn't really matter unless they start 'outspeeding' you
since my opponent is so freaking scared of 44B and really watches out for that it allows me to use more BB

everything is a mind game...

if they do a fast move chances are the move has short range = 44B will own it.
if they do a slower/long range move = the lose their' frame advantage to outspeed me... =i can abuse moves as if it has good frames...

i think people often get soooo caught up with frame adv/diadv they fail to realize... minor frame advantage/disadvantage often leads to close to no real advantage against someone who knows their frames well... there's always multiple ways to beat an opponent strategy....

they try to outspeed me i can do one of the followings.
1) guard.... now they are at frame disadvantage possibly punishable frame disadvantage.
2) GI....
3) evasive move like 44B
4) manually back step/step....

as long as i can play those well even at disadvantage it doesn't really matter as long as i guessed right

To Lau's vid pretty good :) I'm not really that good with Raph but if I were you I'd use that 22_88BB 4 and 44B i hate that stage i always fail regardless good vid though hoping for more i can learn from this =o
 
I really need to get used to using 4 I agree

i watched some vids from Millionz and saw how he used 4 quite effectively I can really learn from that.

sad news is... my vids didn't get recorded (due to technical error...during recording that we didn't realize until today) that was the only one CF got of my raph against him (or his way of hiding my raph beating him lol... jk)

hopefully will get more up soon...
