SC5 Weapon Ideas (JOKE WEAPONS INCLUDED)

the silliness of holding the nunchucks taut as a blocking animation suggests to me that the nunchuck user should rely on a lot of evades and aGIs instead of blocking as if he had a shield.
I always wished they would have added special character specific blocking animations. It would have made the battles look more like swordplay.

It just ocurred to me that i've always wanted a Jo wielding character. The moveset would be plain and simple, the character modest and humble. Also, the Jo plays essentially different from the Bo or the Chinese Gun, respectively.

gotta think about "fun" it would be to play though. Plain, simple, modest doesnt' will likely not translate to good gameplay. Hell i'd suggest a guy who talks someone outta fighting, but how exciting would that be.

you do have a point. still, that's just my personal preference. It would be fun to me, i guess, and the character wouldn't have to be as plain as in above videos. maybe it's the contrast to the rest of the sometimes over the top flashy roster that tickles me.

Not sure if this was brought up, but it's a minor detail I want to address.

Assuming Seong Mi-Na has a successor, I'd like for their Zanbatou/Guan Dao/Glaive/Wol Do/Whateveryouwannacallit to have horse hair.

Horse hair was handy, as when one would swing it around it would cause a colored blur that would distract an opponent, which could be just enough time needed to sink that baby into someone's heart. It was also used for absorbing blood. If you sink the weapon into someone's heart, the blood will spill onto your weapon which could cause you to have a terrible grip on the weapon. That's why the horse hair was handy, as it absorbed the blood.

Horse hair was used in China, and Koreans knew Chinese disciplines, so why not? Hwang/Yun-Seong use Chinese Broad Swords after all.

I was just reading over this thread again and a new idea dawned on me that arose from both the puppet and the hidden sleeve weapon ideas.
What would be rather interesting to see is a character who fights using a whole arm made from wood or some other material that hides weapons such as knives or needles. I know Yoshimitsu has his own wooden arm, but sadly I find that to be more aesthetic than functional.

Hmmmm....I think a 3-sectioned staff would fit perfectly in SC. A perfect balance between range and versatility.

Another weapon that I think would be good is a Kusarigama, wielded by a new ninja character. It would many be used for ranged attacks, but it also can be used at close range thanks to its scythe. A good example that Namco could use as inspiration for the Kusarigama ninja's gameplay is Ryu Hayabusa's use of it in Ninja Gaiden 2:

Another source that could be used as inspiration for the ninja's stances could be Ivy's SC2 stances [I hope those stances make a return in some way].

Another style that I've been waitin' to see ever since the first SC, and was pretty disappointed when they finally added one, but turned her into a complete clone is a duo-katana user. I hope that Mitsu's newly proclaimed brother will be that duo-katana user.

i like the horsehair tassels, too. xianghua had her jian tassels, so why not. also, i think seong-mina's zanbatou should be replaced by a qiang/spear character altogether. her moveset always tended to be kinda boring/uninspired.

a nice example:

Looks a lot like Mina's weapon demos! Which granted, is the same as Kilik, but eh.

Definitely wanting the horse hair tassels.

you see, mina's/kilik's weapon demo is actually a wushu staff routine.
many of the staff moves actually cannot be translated to a pudao or zanbatou which is why her weapon demo alway looked a little awkward to me.
here's another spear routine:

too bad daishi said that weapon exhibitions are too time consuming to make :/

Ya, I like em too, but I guess I'd rather they put more time into other parts of the game (or moves as he said)...

I would like to see experimental/unique/hybrid weapons :D
1. I saw a possible old sketch of a Xianghua w/ her Chinese sword AND a fan. Maybe Xianghua (or a similar character) could wield BOTH O_o
2. Chained flail (check Dynasty Warrior 7's Cao Ren).
3. Double-bladed dagger(s)/sword(s) , w/ a spiked hilt for defense and punching capabilities
4. Kusarigama (Japanese hybrid weapon of a sickle and a mace)

5. Bladed-crossbow, more on the "slicing" side of offense and possible projectiles (not cheap like Algol, and can only be used with charged inputs or somewhat difficult or average inputs). See Dynasty Warrior 6's (PS2) Yue Ying.
6. Hunga Manga - unusual African dagger

7. Trident - it has to come eventually <_<

And this is all my opinion has to offer...for now ;)

Yeah, I really liked weapon demos too. I think we've probably seen the last of them.

You never know what might happen. A lot of fans have asked Daishi to bring back the weapon demonstrations. He said that it MIGHT be possible, but it is difficult to do and time-consuming. Nevertheless, I feel almost 100% positive that they'll come back. :)
