SCV- New CHARACTER ideas

a native american with twin tomahawks, or perhaps a member of an african tribe with twin mengbetu knives. or Mitsurugi's brother who wields a Nodachi would be nice, as long as his play style is different. throw somebody in the mix who has NO weapons, just hands and feet!
I like those ideas. No weapons IS tekken, but it could work if you added some sort of weapon, like knucklers or something?

i mean.... my whole thing behind the character with no weapon is because i thought heihachi was a beast in SC2... why not have another fighter with no weapon.... yes i kno he is from tekken.

We need a winged male character whos immortal that uses six swords...thats balanced! :D

I'm indifferent on that idea, but....

1. Yoshimitsu and Kunimitsu are/were on Tekken with weapons.

2. Unarmed combat has been in the Soul Calibur series before. Three games total.

Yeah, that's balanced alright. LOL

We need more new females in this series.

^something we FINALLY agree on.

Some people must have forgotten about Grieve edges. Add gauntlets to that style and you could have a pretty nasty character.
Because this is a weapon based game. Duh. The greaves from SC3 weren't even good.
1. They aren't real weapons in this sense as swords are.
2. A lot of kicks were just ripped from Tekken.

Are brass knuckles not weapons.

1. Stay close minded and keep wanting different styles for the oversaturated weapon or whatever
2. I don't care where the kicks came from.

I never said I wanted a complete carbon copy with gauntlets added. A style like that would be pretty interesting IMO

Brass knuckles actually ARE cold weapon, thats the same type of weapon that tonfas, and tonfas actually are in Soulcalibur. I think it would be great to see character that uses knuckles (especially a boxer, I like boxers)

I was leaning more towards a martial artists who could never find a weapon durable enough to handle his unique fighting spirit. He sticks with what he was born with to get the job done.

It doesn't work, even Heihachi (boss over the bosses) used a weapon in SC. All in all, this is weapon-based game. But knuckles, gauntlets or cestus are weapons too, so I think it'll be great to see them in game.

What do you mean it doesn't work. I was for studded gauntlets and greaves as his weapon since everything else would shatter during a fight. That could be his reason for seeking out the swords since they are special.

Actually Guilty Gear took place in the real world as well. It was just hundreds of years in the future, which was why the environments seemed crazy. Sol Badguy was American and there were characters from Romania and Australia. But the difference between GG and SC was that what happened to the world affected everyone. What happened in SC was almost entirely in Europe and East Asia (and the the Philippines is an east Asian country like Japan, Korea, and China.) People dismiss fighting game stories, but they have a bigger impact than most players think.

I still fail to see how any character could represent a country in SC. Being a character from a certain background doesn't make you represent it. It's not like Street Fighter where theres a tornament with people from almost any country and they have their nation flag with them. Maybe SC should look into different countries, but their main focus is weapon styles (mainly swords), not representing people.

BTW zewi isnt purely fantasy; hes been said to german.

I didn't realise that about GG, apologies. But with regard to the world the SC series is set in, there is no reason why Eurasia has to be the only setting - afterall, Rock is English by birth, but he's essentially a North American-based character, and still felt the effects of the swords from what was (at the time) a largely unexplored region. India or Thailand or Arabia fall right in the middle of the Eurasian setting, so why not include them? There's nothing in the main story line that would preclude certain areas of the globe.

The characters in SC are no different to SF in terms of how they are designed with recognisable cultural traits and quirks to represent different nations - new character Xiba is a prime example, being based on one of the most iconic Chinese characters, Monkey. Mits is the classic steely, stoic samurai; Sophitia couldn't be anything else but Greek, despite the unusually fair hair (visually, albeit anachronistically); Talim is based on the "Babaylan", animistic priests from the Philippine region etc.
Some characters even incorporate their national sysmbols within their costumes - Seigfried has the Eagle symbol of the Holy Roman Empire all over his armor in SCV, and Ivy has the Tudor Rose of England on her shoulder pauldron, earrings, choker etc in SC4/5. So both characteristically and visually, the SC characters are just as (cleverly) representative of cultures as the SF crew. Not all of the characters are designed this way ofcourse - Voldo is hardly an Italian stereotype! But a lot of them are, you just need to look for the touches.
With regards to weapon styles, surely these must first come from a particular country/culture to be realised properly? Otherwise they would just be completely made up, which is incongruent with SC's real-world setting.
I haven't seen any mention of Zwei being German - his name is German, and his weapon name too, but he's just (boringly) stated to be of an "unknown" origin, which to be honest doesn't help me warm to him.

I get what some of you are trying to say, but when you have a spartan lizard who can fly and breath fire, well hehe yeah no. im cool with any character as long as he or she is designed with and has a unique fighting style.

Which is why i welcomed ZWEI from the start.

Yes, true - which is why I caveated my post - "Not all of the characters are designed this way ofcourse"
I may have misunderstood, but you like Zwei because he's "Unknown"? Don't you think that's a little lazy? It doesn't suggest "ooh! mystery", more like they couldn't be arsed, surely?

More like they wanted to go all out on a character and use "unknown" as an excuse.

I do agree that giving him a German name, yet saying he's "Unknown" in birthplace, is beyond lazy, but it's not like they've done this before (Setsuka, Zasalamel), but with Setsuka, we already know which continent she's from at least.

1. Are they on the same calibur as a sword or even the same context? no. They are tools, not weapons. Just because this is a weapons game doesn't mean anything is plausable, or do you want a nightstick too?
2. Too bad, thats the reality.
