Soul Calibur 5 Guest/Bonus/CAS Character Discussion

They should do palette swaps ala SC2. Less Movesets, More Moves, More Characters (sorta).
They should still retain their personality, taunts, mannerisms etc though.

Select Screen should consist of the following:
1. Asta/Rock
2. Cass/Soph
3. Cervantes
4. Edgemaster/Charade/Olcadan
5. Hwang/Yun Seong
6. Ivy
7. Kilik/Seong-Mina
8. Lizardman
9. Maxi/Li Long
10. Mitsurugi/Arthur
11. Raphael/Amy (Accelerated aging to adulthood to solve hitbox issues)
12. Siegfried/Nightmare
13. Talim
14. Taki/Toki
15. Tira
16. Voldo
17. Xianghua
18. Yoshimitsu
19. Zasalamel
20. Inferno/Algol (New Movesets for them)
21. Random Select

I don't want guest characters at~ all.

BUT I would like them to ask artists to design costumes for some characters, like Tekken 6: BR did. :)
Exactly - some wild costumes from guest artists is a great idea. But NO guest characters crap. This shit must go, Namco.

I'm all for further differentiating the clones, with balance being seriously considered. There's always a weaker clone, (I think the biggest gap is between mina and kilik, or rock and asta) so extra attention will need to be paid

I just hope they will find a good balance between the parts that are for the hardcore and the aspects that are for the so-called general public.

As for the new characters - they should focus primarily on fixing the existing tier issues. Extra characters aren't really needed. Yeah, for tradition's & marketing's sake they should add somebody but spending both time and money on guest characters is just stupid.

Even though I also would not like any guest characters, they definitely sell. Im positive at least 20% of SC4 sales at first were people who wanted a fighting game and thought it would be cool to play as Vader.

That being said, I really wish they concentrate on balancing the game and maybe adding 1 or 2 permanent characters before thinking of guest ones.

I want NO guest characters in SC5. If anything guest has to be in there, why not guest costumes?
Excellent idea, Alstein! And why go further than Namco to find this stuff? I'd love to see some Tales of- outfits, another Kos-Mos outfit, even a Pac-Man face mask! I personally don't like guest characters, but if they NEED to be there- just pull in Tekken characters. Heihachi was amusing to beat up (I don't know why he thought he could face me without weapons ^^; ) :sc2hei1:
btw- whatever happened to Team vs-? And since we have the switch function, why don't we have 2-on-2 tag battles? C'mon guys, give us our old modes back D: some people enjoy them :<

I think SC IV was simply a rushed job. They wanted to put it on the market ASAP and, with all that transition from PS2 to next-gen hardware, they simply didn't find the time to make this game that well-packed. I mean, not even a Team VS mode... WTF?

EDIT: God, I'm speaking about SC IV but I didn't even play it, lol. Being late to HD gaming is so problematic...

I think you're right though ^^;

Hwang, Li-Long and Arthur.

If not them, then fucking nobody. Jerks.

I second this, so much. I don't see much of a point to brand new guest characters, but I guess I don't have much of an imagination to imagine who to add in. Instead, bonus characters who are old characters left in the dust (with full, completely original and differentiated movesets, mind you) should have more priority, even if Namco thinks otherwise.

I *SO* want Hwang and Li Long back. Not as stupid bonus chars (like in SC III) but as full-fledged mothfuckin' bastards to kick people's asses with.

The character creation in SCIV is awesome, and it's the main reason why I still play it regularly. But as great as it is, there are a couple of things keeping it from being perfect.

Height- all the CAS characters are the same height for their gender. It would be great if you could adjust this. Some scaling must be there already, as you can make a man with Talim's weapon and a woman with Asteroth's. Not expecting a huge variance, but the ability to adjust, for instance females, in a range between Talim and Ivy would be great.

Layering- Just the ability to "stack" parts that visually wouldn't interfere with one another. Maybe implemented as having a slot for each arm and leg seperately, and multiple slots for each part. Example, being able to put one of the curiass like the Iron Armor one over the Princess Dress, or putting a gauntlet on one arm but not the other.

Use of real character's clothing parts on Customs- They already do this in Broken Destiny, would be great if they do it in V.

And finally, unlock the skeletons and other odd models for use.

I write all this in the hopes the dev teams are reading the boards, feel free to add to the list. Just want to say that IV's character creation has given me many hours of joy and I look forward to exploring V.

One of the biggest concerns and the very reason custom characters are frowned upon is hit boxes. Hit boxes NEED to stay the same. If I'm fighting a custom character with Astaroth's move set I have no idea which combos will suddenly whiff and which one's wont or what ever weird glitches will occur that shouldn't.

There should be some limit to size change visually, but it should respect the hitboxes of the character they emulate. It needs to look like I can connect my move and it should always be consistent to the origin character. So you could never have a tiny Astaroth custom, but you'd still be able to adjust the size slightly.

It's an unfun limitation but it's needed. I would love to run around with custom Rocks and Ivy's but I ONLY mod the actual character because it's unfair to the opponent if I use a custom char.

Developers TAKE NOTE!

Mabye there should be a "pro" option to toggle hitboxes. Personally, I've never seen anyone "frown" on any of my customs because the whole group I play with uses them extensively and I've only seen a hitbox problem once; when a weapon went through someone's torso and did no damage. Perhaps they could make a way for characters to intelligently track one another, say if a high attack is intended to hit twords the head area, on a tall character it would bend up a bit and on a short one it bends lower.

Well the other issues arises from that.

Examples of issues are things such as Rock. Say I do 3A+G (ground grab, legs first, throws you up landing head first), I go to do B+K for free damage and then 1A+G_B+G during the stun. With small characters it can whiff the grab and I get whiff punished when they rise.

The animations on characters aren't dynamic, meaning they can only run preset animations. Making special ones for every instance would be absurd.

Most casual players wont notice it but for high level it can be very frustrating when it arises. It's rare but you're forced to respect it and it changes how you play. It's also important that the fixed hit boxes matches visually. If you have an Amy sized character running inside an Astaroth hitbox it can be very misleading what will connect. The diference is small, but can be enough to give doubt and not execute.

It can be bad if you take all the time studying how to beat Cervy and you play Shura only to find she can set up something Cervy can't with her slight boost in range. You may find she can just barely punish a move you do now or can hit you with a move that should've barely been to short after a push back. These things are little, but its unfair to a person who knows a character well and has to second guess their knowledge base on specifics.

IMO I think CAS deserves a game of it's own. Leaving the dress up option for original characters. So here's what I want for dress-up options.

-1P as an option
-In special matches and I mean Extras not Standard; stop making certain armour pieces fully breakable. Sheesh do I have to pop sum1's pants and see their undies :/
-Preset costumes that you've collected to finish a whole costume set; say for example you've collected all the gear for the Leviathan set. That becomes a preset option showing all the Leviathan gear pieced together.

Yeah, those are good ideas, I'd definately be buying the CAS version though. And another, I like how the 2p costumes used on normal characters only lose parts of the outfit or rip instead of just shatter off entirely Would be great if they could extend that to all pieces on everyone.

And I'm all for pro modes that ban CAS characters if that satisfies everybody. I'm far from a pro, I just know what I find fun about the game and if they can put in limits to give people like me more freedom but protect the precision of expert players, that would be great.

Well, there's no need for guests. They should brink back the characters they neglected and focus on the ones they already have...
Guests are just stupid and pointless... SC can live without them, I'm sure about that...

Daishi was talking about guest chars on his Twitter. It might be a good time to spam saying no guest characters on there.
