Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

Happy to see my girl Cassandra back liking what little of her outfit we've seen so far. Really hoping she's playable in the game in some fashion unlock DLC don't particularly matter to me

Rothion’s redesign just looked drastic. I kind of think he’d have at least Face 2. And I see the dimpled chin his hellspawn gets. Just not what I was expecting even if it’s a clever reference to Patroklo’s design. Thought he’d be Lucius when he showed up.

Then again the art of Cassie before becoming playable has her with long hair which doesn’t really suit her as we know her.

But what are some thoughts to her leg wear? Skirt or leotard. Guessing with how some armor breaks reference 2Ps she’ll have both.

BTW i'd like to add about this that we shouldn't forget that Mitsu and Sophie (and are the only ones) that has the exact same outfit as SC1. So maybe, i'm just saying maybe... Hwang... will be... the 3rd one.
Ivy looks like she has the same outfit from the Dreamcast game in SoulCalibur VI except the newer one look a bit more detailed and skimpier. Nightmare also retained his original design except now he has a pointier chestplate, a cloak, and a more detailed armor. So that is four characters that retained their SoulCalibur 1 design. If Hwang is in, he would be the fifth character that retains his original design assuming that he doesn't get new pants or belt or other added clothing not visible from his portrait.

That's not what has gotten people hyped for Cassandra as DLC, it's the unique attire she's wearing, something that wouldn't be designed for a simple portrait unless you've got further use for it. Hwang being playable in SC6 is up for debate though.

Hwang always had this generic look. In his case there is very little room for mixing and matching, like with other characters. This look has been recreated in previous games along with the awful one from SB. The fact that he got his generic look again in this artwork means nothing. He is a male character who looked very similar every time he was featured. No point in redesigning him, whether he is or isn't in the game. Just have to wait to find out.
Personally, I think he has a good chance of being playable at some point, because of his inclusion in Mi-na's bio, which implies conflict between her and Hwang.

Ivy and Nightmare new costumes are still quite different from the SC1 though

I wouldn't call this same lol i mean yes the overall looks has the same vibe (as usual actually to keep the iconic look of the characters, drastic changes can get a lot of hate "Say hi Tekken 4"), and there isn't drastic change but it's still very different costumes, it really just speak for itself.

I just want to note you took Nightmare's SC2 look.

@SSfox -- I see what you're getting at that Nightmare isn't really 1:1, but Ivy pretty much is, and I'm not sure how you think she's not.

It's funny cause i think Ivy's outfit has more differences than Night's compare to 1 lol

This speak for itself

Yes there is a huge inspiration from her SC1 which we all noticed since her reveal and actually the case for most SC6 characters revealed so far, meanwhile still there are enough difference for me to considered it different not same costume.

By that logic, Mitsurugi and Sophitia's outfits have also changed a lot more from their original SCI incarnations. The artwork of Hwang...oversimplifies his original SCI look. Way too much for me to consider that he could be DLC, when there's characters like Cassandra who've been redesigned from the ground up.

Cassandra is a waifu. Hwang is not. And he always had a very similar design in every game so dunno. Maybe they think it's iconic. On the other hand, a female character must be cutesy af so... yeah.

So with Cassandra getting a redesign and Hwang not getting a redesign perhaps they have decided to make Yun-Seong DLC instead of Hwang.
I think it's more likely that we have no Korean swordsman at all playable than Yun-seong playable without Hwang playable.

@SSfox -- As @artard4321 said, it's the same outfit, but with less material and skimpier in some areas, while having more detail in others. And I'm not sure what difference you're pointing out with the arm armor and claw, that looks practically identical save for the skull in the shoulder. Meanwhile, Nightmare's original SoulCalibur appearance not only lacked the cloak but was also significantly less azure than what he became in SoulCalibur II and what is his iconic look, which is what I figured you were pointing out about him with your comparison. None of the outfits are perfect replicas, but some are much closer than others, is what I think was the only point being made.

Damn I can see the phalanx opening up and Cass emerging with her spear and shield to force people to cough up $29.99.
If Cass showed up as cute as she is in Chronicles with a shield and spear I'd probably main her. But changing her weapon would probably piss off Cass fans too much. Which is sad as a spear and shield is conceptually so much cooler.

I just don't think either Yun or Hwang are exciting enough to be worth including as DLC. There's only 4 slots in the season pass, one of which is Tira, one is most likely a guest, and one is probably Cassandra. That leaves just 1 slot left for Hilde/Setsuka/Amy/Viola/Hwang/Yun/etc, and the Korean swordsmen aren't going to be an enticing thing people will buy it for. There wasn't a big outcry for the style or characters when SCV didn't include them so if any characters get skipped they seem most likely.

Of course there's still the possibility there's one more extra unlockable character in the base game like Inferno but they'd have to be pretty well hidden for none of the people testing out the finished game at events and such to have unlocked them yet.

people were expecting her to not have a new design?

She's never been seen before SCII, so it's obvious she'd have a new design. She's also a very obvious choice for DLC due to her popularity.
Note that this is the same game where Project Soul decided to not make alternate designs for any character. The fact they'd go out of their way to design a whole new design for someone who only appears as a story mode portrait sounds very unlikely. It also looks quite different from her other designs, which makes me think they went out of their way to make her stand out compared to Sophitia. It also looks very detailed and almost over-designed, and you can see hints of other parts of the outfit (she's wearing something on her arms and the pattern on the top looks like it extends down).

I personally think this is a huge hint that she'll be DLC. But it does also remind me of the situation with Lizardman. We saw him with a rather unique design in the E3 story trailer (though it was only as a silhouette so it was impossible to tell exact details of his outfit), but his chance of being a character in the game is very much up in the air.

I think we're looking at one of two things:
- Cassandra is DLC.
- Or Cassandra was originally meant to be part of the roster, but they decided to skip her but they're still using the design they made for her.

Or she could be DLC because they decided to skip her for the base roster :)
