Windstar
[13] Hero
Folks, it's kinda important to realize that a number of names and characters in the SC mythos have been around for decades, literally since the first Soul Calibur. Siegfried's band of mercenaries, Schwarzwind, all had names and profiles developed even prior to the release of SC2. Same with Taki's villainous ninja clan leader, same with Hilde's father, Yoshimitsu's clan (both historical and pulled from Tekken-lore), and the Korean family.
Several characters were at one point only available as enemy NPCs, specific to character endings, or simply tied to the background stories of certain playable heroes. Whether or not they become truly playable characters remains to be seen; many of these characters have existed for years and never became playable, while others eventually did. And others were permanently retired for a number of core reasons.
Please take ANY suspicious character names with a huge grain of salt. As well as anything that simply does not make sense. Characters pulled from background stories or from old existing lore are unlikely to become playable characters for a reason (they didn't work then, they aren't likely to work now).
To be very clear characters such as; Rock, Bangoo, Toki, Salia Olschmidt, Hwang, Han Seong Myeong, Frederick Staffen, George von Krone, Kalypolonik, Teppou Hei, Miser, Greed, Assassin, Li Long, Kyam, Geki, Toki, Ina, Norbert, Gerhilde, and Theodore. Plus a ton more, aren't likely to playable in this game, whether in the live game or as DLC.
Historically, the Soul Calibur franchise has tried to avoid bringing in clones in later games in the series and increasingly more interested in more 'exotic' fighting styles than traditional ones. Thus a character wielding a traditional longsword, or spear is generally going to be cut in favor of a character who can summon a werewolf, or wield a double-bladed weapon. A traditional whip is boring, but one that can turn into a sword and back, is far more interesting. And keep in mind that every weapon-style is likely to be a primarily melee, not ranged.
So if you see information being "leaked" out that says we're getting some brand new character that uses a rapier as a weapon - we already have a character who does this, his name is Raphael, he's not likely to be replaced. Also keep in mind that unless otherwise stated, characters from SC4 and 5 aren't likely to be brought back. This means that Algol, Hilde, Patroklos, Pyrrha, ZWEI, Dampierre, Leixia, Xiba, Natsu, Ezio, Elysium, Pyrrha Omega, Alpha Patroklos, and Viola are gone. Could they become playable as DLC? Sure, anything's possible, but it's unlikely.
