Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

We never know whats gunna happen so some of yall chill. For all we know shrek could be the next person to be revealed.

Tbh I want cassandra back with some more grapple moves. Really emphasize her" in your face" style

Also write her so she has more on her agenda than just her big sister

Now I want Shrek to be the DLC character! I would pay double the price of a regular DLC character!

His stage music can go something like this:
"Hey now, you're an all-star, get your game on, go play
Hey now, you're a rock star, get the show on, get paid
And all that glitters is gold
Only shooting stars break the mold"

You know i've been wondering if anyone has actually seen video or a live event with storymode being played. I just did a search and didnt find anything. If i'm not mistaken that storymode timeline image we've seen could also be the selection screen. It looks like you just move that cursor around and may not even get the character select screen prior to that.

My point to all of this is we cant necessarily correlate the vs character select screen with the amount of blurred names on the storymode screen and definitively say "this is all that will be available". It seems like a lot of people were doing that earlier.

Of course the character select size ain't written in stone either. Sure there appears to be a border, but an entire column of character icons could be added there to the left and right if they wanted. If it was said that SC6 "almost didnt happen" and that Namco doesnt really care much for this franchise and only begrudgingly green-lit the project for whatever reason, it seems likely to me then that they pull out all the stops and include as many characters as possible in order to turn out the best sales figures.

I suppose its best to keep expectations low as a general rule but still I think its very possible we could see just about everyone except SC5 replacements and other copies.

@AMillionHP -- No, there hasn't been any footage of story mode yet. It's pretty straightforward through the screenshots, though, that there won't be a character selection screen prior to playing story mode. The main story line will most assuredly go between different characters being playable, like SoulCalibur V, but the only node we've seen for sure in a screenshot is Kilik vs. Grøh. The story trailer clearly showed Xianghua taking Soul Calibur to face Inferno, though, so even if we haven't seen a node that says Xianghua vs. Inferno, we can all but certainly say there will be one on the main story line. Sophitia vs. Rothion is on her personal line, and it follows rather obviously that everyone's personal lines will all be from their perspective. But they wouldn't put something as important as Xianghua vs. Inferno on her own personal line, since the personal lines are more along the lines of arcade endings, showing what the other characters are up to while the key players are moving the plot along in the main story line.

That being said, though, it's pretty reasonable to assume that if a character has a personal line in the story mode, then they will be a playable character on the roster. There are only 20 in story mode that get this treatment, from what we've seen, which makes there a minimum of 20 playable characters on the roster. Not counting random, we have 23 known slots. So the other 3 slots are free that could be characters, or they could not be characters. One of them could be CaS. One of them could be Inferno/Edge Master as a mimic. One of them could be Grøh's dad, who might be the final boss, with his unique style. There is also the possibility that the middle slot will be unlocked and feature Inferno, or Grøh's dad, or be used for bonus characters/DLC, or it could be the second guest. We have those two little circles in the left and right side of the bottom row, which are a complete mystery right now. There's a lot of possibilities here, and we can only speculate until we know the truth..

Decloning in T7 didn't stop it from having 3 Mishimas.
The Mishima's do not play alike, all of them are completely different beasts from each other. I main Kazuya, I know all his moves like the back of my hand but apply that knowledge to the other Mishima's and your game plan falls apart. The only things they share are around 15% of their movesets. Considering Mishima's have a pool of around 60 to 80 moves you can see how different they are in the scope of things.

I just said that every good beat'em'up need a grappler and that's the "golden rule". And that all you guys talk very ofter about a Cassie with different weapons, and if you think something like that, so obviously, there is something wrong with that char (and as usual, the only answer was that Cassie is not Sophitia). That's all. Call it shitposting if you want, but if I were you, I would ask myself some questions...
Anyway as someone said before this thread would be better if we talked more about characters and things we like and less about those we don't, so I stop here.

There’s nothing wrong with Cassandra dude as a fan I only mentioned her possibly getting a weapon alternative to offer some form of compromise for people who hate “clones”.
I’m happy with how she is...
Well maybe they can give back the aggressive moves they took from her SC3 version.

And give her more grapple options, her grabs were fun in general.
Her rush down capability and aggressive nature would make it feel like a natural progression.

All this talk of clones is confusing, I’m sure most of us here have seen plenty of martial art films where the same weapon was used in a different way.

Project soul just needs to help Mina and Cassie evolve as characters.

Aren't Astaroth and Ivy grapplers?
Nah. Both of them have really good throws that are important tools in their toolkits.

But a true grappler is reliant on their throws in order to be effective. Rock's SC4 moveset was unique in that almost all of his moves either (1) combo'd into his throws, (2) got him in close to use his throws, or (3) could be used to combo from a throw. Unlike Asty and Ivy, he wasn't going to win in a game of pokes. AND Rock had A/B throws for standing/crouching/downed opponents.

Of course, he was bottom tier because throws were really weak in SC4. All the opponent had to do was guess whether he was going for A or B throw and get a reset. If they made some of his grabs unbreakable, he could be UNSTOPPABLE.

Okay real talk, throw out some genuine ideas on how to fix Rock, move him out of bottom tier without making him cheap? Outright unbreakable throws would make him super cheap but what about a smaller throw break window or unbreakable throws from a counter move?

Squabbles like these are what happen when we get impatient x•
Guess we'll just need a new reveal to feel better. I know that would make me happier ;)

Instead of just two kinds of throw breaks (A and B traditionally or A/B/K and 4A/B/K in SC6), VF has neutral, forward or back throw breaks. This makes throws a huge threat since, if your opponent is guessing, they only have a 1/3 chance of escaping.

Secondly, I'd definitely keep the throw break window short, but also I'd want to give the player a slight frame advantage if the opponent is late breaking the throw. Something like 2F or so? Just so the more aggressive player gets a slight reward for pressing their offense.

Third, I think some of Rock's throws should become unbreakable when he's in SC state. I mean, Ivy's Summon Suffering is unbreakable, right? I don't think this would break the game. It would be scary as shit, though.

Oh, and I guess lastly and most importantly: Guard impacts shouldn't work against throws. I don't know, this seems obvious to me. It's too late in the game's development to change this, but I still think it's a dumb move. Why make throws even worse?

It is kind of hard to balance throws though. Remember, there's AI and real players. At least for the most part you can see when a player is prepping a throw, so you can break it, but gi'ing can work as well and is a bit powerful. But the harder Ai can just pull command throws out its ass so gis really help with mitigating that a little. Like the ivy's command throw in v is crazy hard to get off, imo, but the Ai just strings it no problems and there is little you can do. At least with his you can accidentally break them.

If I am being unreasonable for rock, or the throws it's probably because I have bad sleep patterns, it's late or I'm just butthurt cause scv astaroth scarred me for life by getting three clean hut back breakers on me in a row three rounds in a row after I beat him in two rounds. So astaroth is the worst, everyone.
