Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

Just when I was getting worried about Maxi, Namco answered my prayers (and many other's prayers!) with his character reveal - THANKS NAMCO!!!!!!!!! This character reveal should be dedicated to WCMaxi / Jason Arney, JD, Oosaka, and the best times in 1998/1999 playing SoulCalibur in various arcades and later at home on the Dreamcast. With only about 5 years remaining till martial law (not the Tekken character!) is declared across the civilised world we have to cherish and get the most out of SoulCalibur VI - and celebrate this anniversary by reliving those great times from 20 years ago! With Maxi in the game, Namco has made the purchase of my new Intel i7-8700K worthwhile. This is it, guys... I've had 20 years to reflect back on the best moments of my life... it's then and now!

I doubt Yoshi would be Xianghua's "rival." Could be Talim, Raph, Groh's dad, or even Hwang. Yoshi would most likely be opposite of Voldo or Tira.

Mitsurugi and Taki are more likely "rivals."

I hope that this post is sarcasm. Fine, to be more specific the people Maxi was fighting against which were Kilik, Nightmare, Zasalamel and Mitsurugi in the trailer. Not all of them are literally Maxi's enemies, but he was fighting against them all.

Not really. It's not unusual for the series.

Siegfried and Nightmare are mortal enemies.
Kilik and Groh may be rivals. And they're supposedly central characters to the story.

Also is it me or does Maxi's new design kind of remind anybody whose heard of Under Night In-Birth's Gordeau? Maxi did come first but the new jacket really doesn't help.

Kind of hope that we can customize facial hair on the male characters as well.

The sash is definitely inspired by Yoshitaka Amano art and I love that.

I was never told by my main SCVI source what Maxi's male lover's name is. Only the person who claimed to be a "former Bandai Namco employee" claimed to know it (which was after I already leaked that Maxi would be gay, so they were likely trying to placate me) which that "former Bandai Namco employee" claimed was Jacker. Which happens to be the name of a character from the old SC1 manga that was a member of Maxi's pirate crew.
My main SCVI source still doesn't know Maxi's lover's name.
But they sure are sprinkling in the hints with some subtlety that he's gay as some people here have already pointed out.

And now, we look onward to E3 for more info and reveals! :)
 
CA Maxi is cool but not th best tho. & Can't wait for japanese trailer.

Overall the CA looks all great so fare. My top 5 CA in the game so far are: Ivy, Nightmare, Zasalamel, Taki, & Yoshimitsu

I'm thinking Tira CA will have a very dope one and maybe one of the best in the game, she has so much potential in that area, a girl with that crazy attitude and her weapon, you can do so much stuff in term with CA with her, can't wait.
 
You can't do more than half that stuff anymore.


Nothing in this video shows anything new other than the CA. Most of this stuff has been bread and butter for Maxi for a long time. The SC doesn't seem to inspire much confidence either and the trailer is incredibly short. I'm glad he's back, but he deserves a much better look than what we got here.

I'm going by a Samurai Champloo episode here, but in that Episode a man from the Netherlands fled to Japan because he would have been persecuted for homosexuality in his homeland. So I doubt your comment.
 
The last thing I would like to say on the color theme.
No one forces you to play violently for characters that you do not like.
The Venom from Guilty Gear made a coming out in 2003 year. This changed almost nothing, it did not become very popular or very unpopular.
I do not play for him, not because of his sexual orientation, but because of his unusual and difficult gamestyle.
Since the Venom in this series of games is a very negative character (he is assasin), many of my friends on YouTube believe that this confession has added to him some kind of dark charm.
