Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

Would anyone have a list of upcoming events that would have a playable demo? Or is there a different thread for that?

Now that Ivy is a part of the demo I am willing to travel so I can try her out(most of the footage so far has been poor). I am an Ivy main and will focus on providing great footage and gathering as much info and I can, even go through her whole move list. They change her a bit in each game so it would be nice for myself and other Ivy mains to have more of a head start on what to expect with her :)

I definitely want to attend at least one of the next events before October!

Thanks :)

I want to say the Grøh actually is malfested since he seems designed to be a foil to Kilik, considering they're rivals in SCVI. He exhibits many similar traits as Kilik when entering Soul Charge (magic hair, glowing body markings, exploding clothing, reddish purple aura), but in this case Kilik loses control of himself to the Evil Seed, while Grøh is showing mastery of it. Seeing as his job is to hunt malfested, I hope he's wearing the eyepatch and his arm...armor as means of hiding the fact that he is exactly what he's hunting.
Wasn't it already speculated that he has a fragment of Soul Calibur in his eyepatch and removing it allows him to let the malfestation appear?

Maybe he is an experiment to recreate Algol or something like that...

That's the first time I'm hearing this theory and that's actually pretty interesting. Would be a shame for him to straight up lose his mind whenever he destroys his eyepatch in Soul Charge though LOL.

It's a pre-order character, since the Japanese PSN page said it will go for sale separately.

It's better than being exclusive to the SP (because holy shit Bamco actually would do that), but a PO character is almost just as bad.
I don't really think it's a pre-order character, though? I mean, I'm not saying it won't be, but what they've shown so far it's only a bonus character for the Season Pass. At the very least, I would expect it to be Season Pass only for a few weeks if not a month, if it's going to be purchasable separately. Otherwise why even make the distinction that it's a bonus that's associated with a Season Pass? Dampierre was a pre-order character, and he was advertised exactly that way. And he wasn't available for purchase immediately, either.

That just makes me believe that the "Bonus Character" is either a DLC character that will be immediately be available for purchase at launch for non-SP holders, or it's a bonus unlockable character readily available for SP holders that you'd otherwise have to jump through hoops in-game just to be able to play as (like complete Story Mode or something).

But what kind of monster is just going to avoid playing Story Mode completely when they're obviously putting so much work into it?

Seriously though, I really would be disappointed if that's the case, and that's an excessive waste of a "DLC" slot if that's true.

Lucky you. October is just my bad month. WWE 2K19 and Fist of The North Star Lost Paradise start the month off.
wth, I never even heard of that til now. Guess that's what I get for not having a PS4. Damn, I'd get that in heartbeat, too.

Luckily, October is pretty clear for me. 11-11 Memories Retold is the only other confirmed October game I want, and I can wait for it to go on sale. But, there are a ton of "TBA" games that could be coming out October, of course... =\

But back to SCVI, I don't think Namco will pull what they did in DBFZ to unlock a character (complete story mode). Afaik, there was a lot of negative feedback for that, so they hopefully learned their lesson. And I kinda think that was something "special" just for DBFZ to "reward" the DB fans for experiencing an original, new story.

Unlocking a character through Story mode is what every fighting game does.

Kagura in Blazblue, Abyss in Soul Calibur 3, and so on and so forth. It's been done before. I imagine that the other new character will probably be locked until Story Mode is completed.

Besides, this method to unlocking characters is usually a good way to force players to play the game before going online or on the scene and get gibbed. Getting them familiar with the systems and teaching them the basics through the story mode is good to get them used to the fighting engine so they won't be completely destroyed when they try to go against strangers.

What so on and so forth? Not UNI, not GG, not SFV, not MvC, not KI, not Tekken, not Chaos Code, not Skullgirls.

KoF has bosses locked behind a quick arcade mode. NRS does Story Mode-locked characters. But they're really in the minority.

edit:
I do remember more recent iterations of SC besides 3 having Story Mode locked characters. But that was 6 years ago. Times are different now.

I don't mind that all, I always liked the old school way of things. Unlocking characters, costumes from arcade mode on hard mode or any other way and being surprised of what I unlocked. These days people are to lazy, that they conplain that they want everything unlocked at the beginning. Also speaking of unlocking I'm curious about the trophies hope there's some interesting ones.

The problem with unlockable characters is that its inconvenient for tournaments where they'd have to unlock everyone on every machine they're using (imagine having to complete everything in Weapon Master mode multiple times so everyone can play as Lizardman for example). CAS parts and extra costumes and weapons and museum stuff are all nice things to have us unlock though.

I heavily doubt the Season Pass bonus character will be someone unlockable in-game since that misses the point of it being a bonus character you pay for. I still think it'll be Viola, she doesn't really fit in the normal game for obvious reasons but was the one SCV character people actually liked a lot, it'd be a bit of a waste just to leave her and her unique style behind after only one game. Could also be Dampierre again I suppose or Algol or something but nobody likes them.

The other options are characters like Cassandra, Amy, Mina who could be in the normal game but didn't make the cut for whatever reason but I feel like they're more likely to be later normal DLC characters rather than a 'bonus' launch character.

I think Inferno could be a good unlockable character for finishing the story mode though, he could be the obligatory mimic (showing up in the centre slot maybe) so it doesn't trouble tournaments while giving you a character to work towards getting.

every time i come on here and i see this:

i think "damn this roster is stacked"

If the bonus character is unique gameplay wise (which I think we're all expecting it to be) in any way then they'll be available to download at a later date. They seem to want to focus more on eSports this time and locking out an entire moveset is completely contradictory to that.
