Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

Here's a very easy way to understand Kilik & Mi-Na

The next updated character select screen we will see will shutdown and answer a lot of theories and questions.

After August they still have September for reveals before the game drops. I'm assuming we'll know everything there is to know by then. Well by September I mean.

The new timeline is practically identical to the old timeline from what we have seen so far. I'm sorry that you can't logic and reason, but I'm tired of having this silly argument. There has been no reason given to believe that events will play out any differently than they did originally. This is a retelling, not a reimagining.
Oh that's hysterical, you're questioning my logic and reason even though it's been stated a bunch of times what this game is. You're the one who obviously can't wrap your head around what this game actually is Kappa You're the one obviously struggling with logic and reason here. Events are obviously different with the entire inclusion of Groh, Taki's imbued sword is different this time, Zasalamel's appearance, dates being different etc...

If the game comes out and it's practically the same fair enough but that still doesn't change the fact that this game is a new timeline. Claiming that unrevealed characters (or characters that might not be included at all) will have the exact same story as before -and presenting it as a fact- is misleading to some people. You do not know how the story will go and can't just assume how it will go, who will be in, just because of the old timeline. They can literally add anyone they want, into the story or otherwise, because this game is a reboot.

I'm finished with this conversation here as it's clogging up the thread, but you need to stop making assumptions as like I said, it can be misleading and make people believe that the story will be presented in such a way and X character will be in because "it makes sense in that time period" even though you do not know that's how it will be in this timeline.

Good day.

Realistic: Cervantes / “Azwel” / Lizzy / Hwang / Rock / Inferno / Raphael / Tira / Setsuka

Ideal: Cervantes / “Azwel” / Lizzy / Hwang / Raph / Tira / Hilde / Setsuka / Cassandra + one stage not Astral Chaos.

and presenting it as a fact-
I'll just say that I've presented nothing as fact. I've qualified everything I've said with if statements, and it should be understood that all that any of us are doing is speculating. I'm lacing my speculation with background and history due to the evidence that they've given us shows that this timeline is not delineating from the original. My questioning your logic and reason was your refusal to use prior knowledge to govern your speculations while I am completely open in doing so because it is quite clear to me that they are relevant considerations to make. We're going to have to agree to disagree, which I agreed with in my prior post, you did so here, and I will restate, I'm tired of having this argument, and you can believe whatever it is that you want to believe, while I will do the same.

Even if they didn't show up until SCIII/IV, anyone from SCIII and IV is 100% fair game, because in the Old Timeline, SCII through IV were in the same year.

Also the definition of a retelling is:
"to tell a story again or differently"
"a new version of a story"
"a new, and often updated or retranslated, version of a story."
I would agree with this if it wasn't contradictory to the picture that they have been painting with the information that they revealed thus far. As soon as they actually do introduce a paradox, something that could not have happened in the old timeline, then I'll accept that the new timeline is actually a new continuity. Until that happens, "new timeline" is a misnomer to me, since it implies that it contradicts the old timeline.

SoulCalibur II-IV being in the same year is relevant, and yet it is not relevant, because it has been stated by Okubo that SoulCalibur VI will take place from the events after SoulBlade through SoulCalibur to the events before SoulCalibur II. Things that are contingent upon the events of SoulCalibur II-IV would not make sense to be included in SoulCalibur VI due to this restriction. Looking at the timeline in the story screenshot as well, the last year, 1590, the year/the year before the events of SoulCalibur II-IV took place, is a very small segment that can't have many events associated with it. The meat of the story will take place prior to that year.

The different, new, updated, retranslated, etc. parts would be the inclusion of stories that were only told in text or external sources before, or origin stories for characters who would show up later in the timeline. It wouldn't be taking events from SoulCalibur II-IV and making them happen earlier. This is as clear as I can possibly state my point of view, and I don't really know what else I can say on the matter. Agree or disagree, that's up to you, but I really am done arguing this point. It's pointless to repeat myself, so I thought I'd lay it all out here, to refer back to in the future, if necessary.

You're the one who obviously can't wrap your head around what this game actually is Kappa
If only the producer of the game could clarify this question. Oh, hold on a sec...
Okubo said:
For Soul Calibur VI, I don’t know if the term ‘reboot’ is the right term to use, but we are revisiting the narrative and retelling the story.

Now, of course it's possible he's just setting us up for a giant twist. Maybe just before Xianghua defeats Inferno, Groh shows up and kills her. Kilik will go crazy, take Soul Edge for himself and become super ultra malfested Kilik 5000. Or maybe Okubo is just telling the truth.

But of course, it's a fighting game. This genre has always played fast and loose with cannon, and SC is no exception. Every game since the first has altered or retconned certain events from the previous game, so try to just have fun with it and don't stress.

Of course but also: he says it's a reboot here. That's not really my point anyway, my point is that SCVI is a retelling of previous events whilst adding and changing things, which is, in itself the setup to a whole new timeline that is different than the original one. The way SCVI is described is almost exactly how MK2011 was described by Ed Boon "The game's director, Ed Boon, described it as an altered re-telling of the events of the first three Mortal Kombat games (Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat II and Mortal Kombat 3)" and that game, like SCVI is a new timeline.

Like I said, I don't think this is the right place to continue this conversation, and I have inboxed @DanteSC3 anyway.

They could very easily change that. This is a reboot after all. If they feel he doesn't fit with the new timeline's story, he can be written out entirely.

Not likely. His "story" doesnt really directly interact with anyone its just relevant to the sword, and way before anyone's time. So that means there is no reason to write him out unless they specifically want him out. Despite how the handfull of people posting on this thread will claim how unpopular he is, he presents an interesting and unique moveset so he is important.

It’d be funny if she does make it... as a story NPC. Of course unless she uses Tyrfing (Mitsurugi) that may boost the chances of a rapier user.

It might be the technical return of Mi-Na’s dad too after all these years.

Why are people thinking we have 6 slots? What about CAS being one of them?

Officially, there's 3 slots left in the Story Mode roster, and about 5 slots left on the character select screen, assuming CAS takes a slot symmetrical to random select.

Unofficially, and based on theory, the center slot could open up for an additional sixth slot, and if CAS is not on the character or simply placed somewhere else or accessed in some other way, you could have up to seven slots.

However, it's simply better to assume that we'll have 20 characters with a story, plus two bosses for 22 characters on the base roster with additional DLC character(s) added later. Anything else that arrives is just a fun surprise.

Officially nothing. There's no proof of anything we've seen being anything more than placeholders. None of the screenshots we've seen has been confirmed as the official final product.

Han-myeong wasn't even on the character poll, so it would be pretty weird if he did make a return. Though if Hwang does make a return, and the style is already there, then there wouldn't be much stopping them from adding him as a story NPC, especially because he would be relevant to both Mi-na's and Hwang's stories.

Salia technically should use a longsword, but I feel like they had her use Amy's style in Broken Destiny because the style was more feminine than would be Mitsurugi. But if the decision was between Mitsurugi or Raphael, they might go Mitsurugi instead, to keep her with a longsword.
