Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

BANGOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Next week we will be at roughly 8 weeks/2 months away from the game, I think it is safe to say the last 2 week lap will bring us no new information. it seems we are all being optimistic here and considering 6 characters left to reveal.

Okay so, this gives us 6 weeks before information stop coming out, which is 3 character reveal cycles, I think they need to inform people who is the pre-order bonus character so they can finally put it on PSN, Steam and Xbox live so if there is one I think we will be finding next week, along with a CaS trailer, which also have pre-order bonus I think.

No one is making tier lists per say, people are just pointing out the character has tools which need nerfing, which is the objective of beta builds, to find out the retarded stuff to not ship the game with them.

First of all, no character should have specific counter picks, specially when one of them is absolutely awful close range, Mi-Na is not meant to close the gap, Mi-Na is meant to keep away hitting with the tip of the naginata.

Second of all, everyone, who played the game, but Ivy players -Quelle surprise- is worried about Ivy shenanigans, people defending Ivy are starting to sound like the people who used to defend Viola.

I'm pretty sure that 2A+G is GI'able and maybe RE'able but I haven't seen anyone attempt it and no one to my knowledge has discussed that possibility.

The second hit of 33(A) is GI'able and has a deadzone. It's also punishable when done right.

I wouldn't expect anything other than a damage reduction but big numbers seems to be the intent. 2A+G is supposed to wallsplat and Ring out. It has two specific ranges. Overall, I think if SS was breakable, that would be the compromise since this range game was intentional but I don't want to discuss SS until someone can test Astaroth.

I will say that folks still get confused about it's properties so maybe change the flame color to blue but it seems dumb.

Worst case scenario: the new Mi-Na moves came from the barbarian lady who had a similar weapon.

Anyways a reveal tomorrow is probably not happening, but will be a very pleasant surprise.

Just still hoping Tira and Raph aren’t the new Talim and Zas.

This is random, but does anyone remember how dull the online rank names were in SoulCalibur V? You started at E5 and moved up to A1, as if you were playing a game of Microsoft Excel.

I'd love it if they copied their naming conventions from the SC2 Weapon Master Mode levels. 8wayrun's member levels were inspired by the same thing, weren't they? The progression is:

Neophyte (Iron, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum)
Apprentice (Iron, Bronze, etc.)
Disciple (same)
Fighter ""
Battler ""
Combatant ""
Dualist ""
Mercenary ""
Warrior ""
Knight ""
Champion ""
Conqueror ""
Hero ""
Master ""
Edgemaster ""

And cool custom titles like "Platinum Edgemaster of the So-and-so." They really should bring this back. For one thing, there are a lot more ranks here than in most online fighters, and I think it would encourage people to keep playing if they were ranking up more often. For another thing, no one cares about being "A1," but being able to flaunt your status as a Platinum Edgemaster would be a major incentive.

I wish they would go for that barbarian female idea. They could look at comics and bring the popular Red Sonja to SC. She is quite tough, knows how to handle many types of weapons.

I sure hope so. I read Vergeben stating that one of the reasons for her (possible?) cut is that they decided against her design for being too sexy (inspired by an H artist and all) or something. Though, given just how over-the-top the SCVI fanservice is, I'd find it hard to believe they would pass up on a new character for that reason.

what other companies?

Namco-Tekken 7? They spent time to have a season pass with guest from other fighitng games. Nobody like them. Season 2 with Lei, Anna (and other regular chars) and everybody's happy.
Capcom-SFV? They give us tons of new chars, but not guests.
ASW-Guilty Gear? Just new chars or regular chars (Baiken).
ASW/Namco-DB Fighterz? no guests at all.
We have guest in Injustice 2 (TMNT) but also new regular chars. And they were so scared from guest chars that they used guests taken from MK!

Guest chars on DLC don't sell themself. And that's why season passes are made for fans of the game not for casuals. 10% of those who buy the game, tend to buy DLC or a season pass. And those people are you and me, huge fans of the game, not casuals. And huge fans of the game want to see regular chars to fill the roster.
Even though I said check other companies, you still have Namco but for some odd reason you ignored Negan from The Walking Dead. You even make baseless statements. I want to see your receipts.

So, what we really have in this generation off the top of my head:
  • Warner Bros, one of the biggest companies in this genre. Both Mortal Kombat X and Injustice 2 had numerous DLC guest characters.
  • Microsoft's Killer Instict had guest characters, too.
  • Wasn't Mai Shiranui added in Dead or Alive 5: Last Round?
  • What about Arika's Fighting Ex Layer? Did you skip EVO?
That of course excludes games that were build around cross overs. From my point of view it looks like you have no idea what are you talking about.

I don’t hear the “Victory due to the Soul of Whoever,” but I’d like them announced for custom characters as well. My guess is that the character symbols rather than their art shows up for customs as they load as well.

.
Tell me: Is everybody happy to see Negan or to see Anna and Lei?
As I said Netherrealm used MK chars. It's indicative, don't you think?
Terry in Figher EX layer is not part of a season pass. So your example is wrong.

Anyway, so are you saying that guest chars are useful for an easy sale of a season pass? Tell the the reason or I'll have to think that you are a bit naive my friend

Would be kind of cool, though it feels more like what Tekken does. And don't forget level 99 was "Ultimate Counter Stopper" which was terrible, if that was A1 I think people would stay A2 on purpose. I'm about 50/50 on this.

Ivy's new costume is her worst in the series, tied with SCIV. Mina is wearing a bikini and a cape. There's no way that would be a reason for a character to be cut completely, nonetheless simply redesigned.

Exactly. He said the character might still show up as well. Also, It would be weird to have no female fighters this time. So I'm betting that if true, we'll be seeing her either on the base game or as DLC.

Why do people want a new female character that much, I mean Viola was a new female character and I think she was cool and fun to play (except in close quarters xD) but everybody hate , some people like her i know but the ones that don't aren't really "neutral" to her as they are toward Rock for exemple or Lizardman.
They hate her that much that they don't want to see her ever again.

I still think that her and ZWEI were pretty fun and original character. And I prefer having those kind of new stylish character, rather that a Pope with a dumb mace, and I know a lot of people don't agree with me on that one, from what I saw most people just want ALL normal hand weapon to be in the game before doing crazy stuff like that.

But I don't care for me it's style and magic > lazy ugly old a** and slow to use weapon that No-one ever think of using anymore.

- More variety
- More fanservice
- Don't want the game to be a sausage fest with only new male characters
- First time since SCIV that a new female would add something new rather than take away

Just off the top of my head.

True! It's not like Darth Vader or Link sold SC2/4...

The 50/50 ratio female to male is really not something important to me forcing a character to be female just so that the ratio stay at 50,if that was the case they could have easl make Groh a girl. I find that dumb to be honest.

Really it's not that needed, soulcalibur 3 and 4 (possibly even 2) introduced more female characters than male.

And I'm not quite sure what you mean by take away stuff: Hilde and Viola are the perfect exemple of good new female character.

It is true that guests help selling game but guest do not sell DLC, the thing is it work today because of season passes, people buy a season pass not knowing what they'll get and even expect old character to return but instead they get something that no one is asking for.
Just imagine a fan of Nier Automata that don't know SoulCalibur, don't expect him to buy a game he don't know (or type of game he don't usually play) And but a Season pass to get to play their favorite character...
