Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

Some LoS from TheSixthAxis.

Looks like Lizardmen can indeed use the human voices. That's going to be a little jarring, but I welcome the option.

edit: Dammit, looks like the spirit of Taki is strong with LostSoul_83.

I really hoped that Inferno would be a Nightterror-nightmare, but... this is just a reskin with a very few new moves.
He doesn't even have a different super! For a boss character he is quite dissapointing.

If Inferno is on one of the usual slots (not the middle) that will make me believe that there will be more unlockable characters (Hwang and Lizardman probably, as many believe) but they will used like Inferno - modified Nightmare, Hwang - modified Xianghua, and Lizardman - modified Sophitia.

If he's in the middle however, that will make me stick to my original theroy that the other spots are DLC and there are no other unlockables.

We still need answers to the Lizardman with the axe and shield.
As stated above, unlockable with a modified Sophitia moveset or just a story mode only character with a modified Sophitia moveset.

It's important to keep in mind that Inferno is Nightmare. Siegfried's spirit is being suppressed so Inferno can use his body so of course Inferno is going to have Nightmare's moveset.
Sure, in terms of the narrative, it makes perfect sense. But as far as gameplay (which is arguably more important in this situation) goes, it's a pretty strange choice to make. We don't need two characters with 99% of the same moves on the roster. Hell, people have been against characters with the same weapons being on the roster together, let alone the same moveset.

Lurked the forums and frame data sections years back when I played SCV for a little bit, thought I'd sign up as I'll be playing SCVI a lot and would like to join in the conversation here.

I'm by no means a good player, spent some time playing SCV (only one I've played) with a few friends and good players. Dropped SCV years ago (3 maybe even 4?) and haven't played a fighting game since so I'm really not the best. Looking forward to playing VI a lot and getting better.

Now, regarding the beta. I wasn't planning to play at first, I wanted to wait till the full game and put some practice in. After hearing a few friends play it and talk about it I couldn't resist. Had decent connection most games on Saturday but on Sunday it was really tricky to get a good connection.
Play mostly against Sophitia and Tira, a few NM's, Taki's and Talim's and a few other characters. Didn't come up against a Groh, wanted to see what he was like. I played exclusively Maxi.

- The game seems to have a real nice pace. Maybe my memory is foggy but it feels faster than I remember V being, which is nice.
- Can't really comment on things such as execution and so forth as I can't tell if it was down to lag or not, but I occasionally threw out the wrong move when I was sure I was inputting the correct move.
- Got, stupidly, punished by RE quite a bit at the beginning. Whilst trying to pressure people on wake up or when just applying a lot of pressure in general. Seems like a few combos / chains cancel it but it felt inconsistent (maybe due to lag) so I couldn't say which for sure.
- JG seem almost pointless? Having not played for years and not having a stable connection it was hard to time but even so, didn't really feel worth it? Correct me if I'm wrong. Apart from occasionally trying to avoid chip and my guard breaking I don't think I'll use it. Maybe occasionally to be flashy / when having fun.
- RE spam does get a bit annoying. Maybe more play against it will render it almost useless apart from those who apply it smartly. Currently it's just irritating as I'm not used to it. The fault probably lies with me there though.
- GI don't seem to give as much + frames as I remember? Still a strong tool for relieving some pressure and changing the flow of combat.
- CE's seem too safe? Found it really hard to punish poorly used CE's. If it's a single button activation, strong tool surely it should be punishable for throwing it out carelessly?
- Only played against one or two but Sieg's damage seems insane? Beat him pretty easily if I remember correctly, but when he did land it hurt bad. NM's damage doesn't seem too bad either.
- Maybe it's because I don't know the MU but Talim gave me a bit of a problem at first. Her ability to apply pressure seems real good, I found it hard to time my punishes.
- I had a slight issue with the way it rewards meter. I'm not if it happened in V but whoever loses the round going into the final found gets a bar of meter? I can understand if you're 2-0 down and you get a bar for the comeback, I don't like it particularly but I can understand it. But, if I'm 2-0 and make a comeback and then the enemy gets meter for the final round? That felt a little bad.
- I also didn't use meter enough. Don't think I used Soul Charge once? Or maybe just once to see it but won the round before I tested anything.

Couple of other things; please give me Setsuka (played aPat on V). That Inferno looks pretty pointless. I hope it doesn't take up a whole slot and is just an alternative NM option or a bonus slot. But that's probably wishful thinking. The grab he pulled off in that video looks stupidly strong? Is it just me or did anyone see that damage?

Sorry for the wall of text. Got a bit excited / carried away.

Exclusive grab

Invisible step.

A boss character if I ever seem one, a waster of resources tbh.
I'm perfectly OK with it, I like a good boss fight in single player modes. It makes sense from the story perspective and given that they have acknowledged the strength of the player base who liked story mode in earlier versions such as SC III.
Waste of resources to me is stuff like CaS and breakable armour, but I see they're aiming for a well rounded game so I'm keeping my complaints to a minimum 🙂

I distinctly recall fans being up-in-arms over there being three sword-and-shield users in SCV. I'm not certain three zweihander users is the solution to that criticism.

I must say, I am on board with Inferno (mainly because I think he looks cool, which is shit logic, I know). But, I think you have raised a very good point. I concede; it doesn't seem like a good way to compensate for SCV.

It was pretty obvious he was not gonna be a mimic in my opinion. I can't imagine Inferno wielding anything other than Soul Edge variations of the weapons like SC2, and those don't exist here.

And before you say they could've done them and make them Inferno exclusive, it's Bamco, not gonna happen.
