Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

The worst speculations about Inferno confirmed, god damn it, Project Soul!
I have defended the small roster, 11 stages and even Tira day 1 DLC, I've accepted no Hwang and Lizardman without regrets, but this seriously breaks the camel's back. No mimics at all and a useless clone eating a slot in the main roster? In a game which focus was to make each character as unique as possible? First they cut off Mokujin in T7 and now this, not even a CAS mimic option in the game, WHAT THE ACTUAL HELL?! It's the easiest feature to implement ever, but apparently they just refuse to do so.

For the first time I really am disappointed in SC6.

I don't mind this situation really as this is to be expected, and kinda the community's fault to a degree if you think about it. Or at least those vocal about their hatred for mimic characters. If you think about it, that constantly being a thing could well have influenced the decision for him not to be a proper mimic, ans we know he'd still have been hated for that probably, albeit in a different way, as some simply don't want them to exist. This or having him unplayable were likely the 2 easiest options in their minds, if I had to guess.

That said, the real questions in regard to his impact are if people who use CaS are gonna end up able to have his style available for it. REDACTED People's opinions will vary on all of this, but I can't say I care much about it. Though I do worry for Nightmare if he ends up obsolete over this, even if I can appreciate the nod to Night Terror.

All of this aside, we have just over 2 weeks to go and then we can all see for ourselves how things play out, as well as exactly what there might be for unlockable content that we likely won't see or hear about until launch. If nothing else, we can take comfort in the potential for there to be at least some things hidden from us until post-launch hopefully, and balance can always be adjusted through updates. Things are looking good as is, so we should be fine.

It literally blows my fucking mind that people are complaining about the lack of a mimic - a feature that they were more than willing to drag SCV for (though to be fair I get why 3 mimics is annoying when you have SCV's roster)
It's not really the fact we are not getting a mimic, but rather we are "losing" a spot for a clone which more logically should have been a mimic in order to bring some variety in the fighting styles.

A mimic is more original than a clone, yet both are a waste of space imho.

eating a slot
It's not like they have a "budget for character slots" or limit for them. So having already completed, even though disappointing, character in the roster doesn't hurt anything in the slightest.

Yeah, I agree.
Though it's disappointing that Inferno is essentially just an alt costume for Nightmare with an OP grab, it's better than if they had to programm a moveset-changing stuff for him. We have him in the story only as an Nightmare-expy, so that work for him is done and it would be little bit meh if they wasted resources to make a moveset-switching for him just to make him from one (already completed) "waste of space" into another (which requires some additional work, like creating a model for SE version of every weapon, programming moveset-switching itself, making sure there is no bugs on some movesets with his model, putting those "little changes" if he rolls Nightmare moveset).

There is no budget for slots, but having two 95% identical characters in two slots just makes the whole character select screen look messy and unprofessional. It's stupid looking.

That I agree with. They could've just put him in the Nightmare slot. Like, when you have a color select there is a third option appears called "Inferno"(in red letters to help differentiate it from "normal" color select options).

As much as I love soulcalibur I have to agree and face facts. It is turning out a little disappointing in some important areas. For me the biggest thing is the stages - I love the ones we've got and they are beautiful, but there are a few that are very similar to each other and it gets tiresome seeing them over and over. I truly hope they are keeping stage dlc underwraps that will come with each dlc character.

On a plus note, I'm just left with gratitude that we're even getting a new soul calibur and for the good single player content and strong (if limited) roster.

If online buzz is anything to go by then it could actually sell very well. It seems to be getting a fair bit of exposure on some fairly mainstream outlets.

I do agree about stages, but I'm pessimistic about new stages coming with DLC character:
  • If planned, it would have been a sell argument for SP;
  • Tira is here, but no stage in sight.
Speaking of the devil, I'm still waiting for information about Tira as standalone DLC.
And what is the current pratice about season pass? Can we really expect having the whole content revealed before launch?

It's not a waste, they are re-using assets that they already created for this specific game. What would you have rather they done?

Re-used assets in a better way.

If they can manage to "copy and edit" a style, they can copy and edit other things, from previous games for example: instead of a Nightmare clone, they should have made Inferno a mimic, as it requires as much (or even less) work to code him as a random character rather than modifying Nightmare's style to incorporate variations of moves.
