Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

It was shitty luck, I hope. Because I shouldn't be punished because the opponent can't take getting beat.

Only losers and tryhards complain about CaS.
So if Tira wasn't ready to be shipped with the game :(

then why one of Nightmare's opponents on his story mode uses Tira's style?"
I hope nobody's dumb enough to think Bamco was actually telling the truth about that.

When snooping through files, I've found no indication she was a late addition to the game. And the first Azwel leaker implied he worked on localization sometime early 2017 where characters like Tira was part of the text and referenced as a playable character.

I’m loving chronicles so far, all the people that show up and the interactions seem so fun. Also, it details the characters very well for beginners and long time fans. Loving it. Hoping 7 can expand and make it better, maybe more cutscenes. Libra on the other hand has been meh, not much point in playing it if there are no unlockables.
Libra of Soul is equally important to Soul Chronicle with regards to the story, unlockables be damned.

I must come to admit it, but I would like to point out my personal pros and cons of SCVI so far...

PROS
- The combat is absolutely excellent overall, with my appreciation for the Reversal edge and new Soul charge mechanic growing with every match

- It feels like every character is properly balanced now, where characters like Seong Mi-Na and others are really flexible

- The museum is chock full of great lore and information I never knew before about the SC series

- Soul Chronicles does an amazing job at giving us more character than ever before, giving me more appretiation for characters like Voldo, Raphael, and even Astaroth.

CONS
- while CAS is nice and all, it is SEVERELY lacking in... basically everything. Certain races lacking certain customization. Missing pieces for gear in the game (where’s the rest of the gorgon armor?!), and advancements we thought would be made, like asymetrical customization, were non existant.

- I may be alone on this, but I feel like a lot of characters in the game are VERY overdesigned (Zas, Nightmare, Voldo, Astaroth, yoshi, etc.), while all of the stages except for Fygul Cestemus’ stage feel so forgettable.

- Same goes for the music in almost every regard. It feels sad that the only time the themes really pop out to me is when they are taking notes from SC1 themes.

- Libra of Soul is so forgettable. While I like the approach, all of it just made me miss The Edge master mode from SC2 more and more. It just feels so empty and disjointed, with no real “reward” for playing it.

- While I praised the Soul Chronicle mode for its characterization, the fact that absolutely none of them besides Kiliks have cutscenes makes a LOT of the soul chronicle so boring to play through, especially if it’s a character you’re not invested in (mitsurugi and nightmare’s stories were exceptionally poor.)

BOTTOM LINE
I really do love SCVI, but god dammit if I can’t be mad at how much potential had to be flushed due to Namco’s lack of faith in the series. Hopefully an inevitable series of patches will fix some of my gripes, but what I know will not be changed will urk me to no end. I’m just glad that it exists, and I can revel in the joy of playing SC in the modern day.

Some notes as a bottom casual too. (Steam PC)
I purchased the game to play single player but on 40h i spent [5h libra - 5h CAS - 30h ranked] because i don' know.

I still don't know to play and will never, actually i'm G2 vanilla Xianghua G2 Talim as a pink Lizardman G3 vanilla Seong Mi-Na, except some hours Raphael didn't try the others yet.
63 victories on... i suppose... about 200 matchs ?

Toxic behavior frequency

At this level, i've just seen 3 players T-bagging, max 10 players spamming, max 5 players spamming RE, a dozen finishing close match using Critical Edge (not very elegant but well it's allowed and part of the game), just 1 player using Voldo CAS with big ****.
3/4 accepted revenge, after win or lose.

It's overall a very pleasant community ! (I mean much less toxic in-game than it could seem reading complaints on boards !)

Characters frequency

(Approximative) I've seen (just !) 2 Raphael on 200 matchs, and almost no Mitsurugi or Tira. -> Probably Raphael is hard to play because vertical, Mitsurugi is too technical and short range, not a lot of people bought Season Pass yet ?
Few Voldo (trolls unfortunately), Mi-Na, Azwel, Zasalamel, Cervantes and Xianghua.
Some more Ivy, Taki, Talim, Yoshimitsu, Maxi and Astaroth.
Quite a lot Nightmare, Siegfried, Kilik, Sophitia, Groh and Geralt too.
2/3 CAS characters

Connection

The quality of connection was often 1-3 bars but in-game i played quite a lot from EU vs even Japanese, Chinese or Australian players without lag ! Miracle ! While i experimented some lags vs much closer players. I've seen less than 10 disconnection.

Anyone else here have to fight muscle memory when in RE? I kept getting beat in that mode because I'd always try to move forward and attack, but that just issues a command where I don't attack and makes me a target. I'm getting better now, hitting buttons without pressing forward and winning quite a few REs online, but I still have to stop myself from accidentally doing it.

Lets not forget that some races can't use all of the equipment options as well. I'm not talking small things that don't make sense but I wanted to put nightmares helmet on an undead dude and there's no option. Other cas items are gender/race locked that really shouldn't be. I can understand locking the dresses to the female characters but Zas' hood and other accessories is really annoying.

There was never an official statement on the canocity of Libra as far as I recall. However, the events coincide or directly follow almost every story in the Soul Chronicle, and it must be be completed to truly complete two characters' stories. There's no doubt it's canon as the "secret history" of SCI.

On a side note, one of the most frustrating limitation to races I've encountered is that automatons can't be recolored. I can play a hot pink skeleton, but giving my mechanical puppet a paint job is beyond the resources of Fygul Cestemus.

Characters doesn't feel balanced to me, I do agree with every con.

-Yeah the cas is really lacking in parts and it's like they tried to make up for it with character parts added.

-Still say they should've went with chronicles mode of sc3.

-I'm still bothered by the small stuff, like clothes looks like body paint and so flat etc... I personally believe it wouldn't matter if they got more of a budget. Japanese devs doesn't do well with quality except square.

Okubo stated in an interview that Libra of Souls is the storyline told from a different perspective (that of your own character) Someone posted the link to that interview a while back, I quoted it myself. So take what you want from that but it seems to me he's saying it's canon.

Is there a way to share your CaS directly with friends, or do you just have to scroll through and hope to find theirs?
This is what I want to know.

There's a thing called "followed players" in the games interface but I don't know how you follow someone. I think its square button on main menu (ps4)

It was assumed that it would be non-canon, but the not recorded in history books angle wasn’t what was interpreted, it’s absolutely canon, since it ties in and sets up events both in this timeline and the next games to come. When you’ve done it, the Libra of Soul major events even get added to the Soul Chronicle timeline. The CaS being the main character part is irrelevant, as it’s an unsung hero either way, it doesn’t matter who did it, because it’s under wraps by the Aval Organization.

Oh ok thanks for clarifying. Still felt boring for some reason, I think I prefer CotS becuse it requires some strategy.

Who else gets all sentimental when that main menu music is playing? It's like the return of a loved one after long hiatus.

I love the arrangement of the menu theme when you hover on the lower options it has that kind of bagpipe type melody. Them feels!

That and the character select music are the only two i really like. All the stage music is alright but the worst for me so far is CAS, its awful. I was ecstatic at first to see we could change it... then i noticed it was only stage music. That was quite a dissapointment.
