Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

Lmao you guys seriously expect that SC that hasn't been around for a while to just came back and take the TOP SPOT??? It won't and it will need time to grow which is totally normal. This April pool doesn't mean too much tbh, what matters is that SC is around and strong, a lot of people are playing and loving it, Namco are still supporting and updating the game, it's already on Evo official games. Now what will matter is the presentation of the game at Evo and how hype it will be and people are gonna think about it like or not, and i'm confident it will goes very positive because this game is great.

There are certainly serious SC fans, but there's a great many more casual fans.

SoulCalibur VI sold quite well from everything we've seen. It's probably outsold UNIST and Blazblue Cross Tag Battle. I doubt Samurai Shodown will sell as much. But compared to other fighting games, only a few decide to play the game competitively. For a fighting game, this generally means it won't have a long lifespan, because the player levels will become too quickly stratified.

I mean, take a good look at her. High-heeled shoes, lots of buckled straps, Jolly Roger symbolics and a battle saw for a weapon, which reminds me of Northern American Aztec weaponry as opposed to something from Africa, correct me if I'm wrong. She's actually not a tribal trope at all.

Hey so question. If a lot of people in the community hate Ivy and/or "zoning", why then would we ask for Algol? He can shoot bubbles, launch you with his throne for backstepping, can teleport, and can naturally avoid some lows because he floats in his idle stance.

I can't speak for everyone, of course, but I expect many would join me in saying that it's not zoning in itself that is the problem with Ivy, but rather her over-all balance. Personally, I'd only want to see Algol after all other SE-SCIV characters were accounted for; I'm not a huge fan of the style, though it certainly has become a go-to for a lot of people and I expect it will return (and feel it should), at some point. But honestly, I don't think Algol and Ivy zone in the same way: Algol dominates the middle range whereas Ivy can, and often does operate from a further range. The bubbles do complicate that analysis a little, yes, but honestly, there's a bazillion ways to deal with them, and while there are some clever traps with them, mostly they are more useful for combos (where they usually come close range and have to be called fair game I think) than for zoning. My main disclaimer here being that I rarely played Algol, in IV or V, and am speaking merely from experience of defending against the style instead--though a fairly large bit of it. I'd certainly hope that they would carefully balance Algol if they brought him back (I think he was basically reasonable in V), and there's a wide gulf between mid-tier and where Ivy sits right now.

Probably the lack of continuous support from the competitive side of the community. To a degree, I can’t say I blame them for it.

"the longest time" was 2 days. The first registration scoreboard was 2 days after the games were announced. This is the 2nd one. They fell because they have a small but dedicated competitive community that all registered in the first few days while the other games competitors took their time.
 
I’m going to shoot myself if I have to read another tweet about the soul calibur “community” and all the preachiness about this and that for showing up for events/EVO.

Jesus Christ everyone’s acting like it’s the end of the world. It’s unbearable on twitter with all the complaining.

I admit that I was initially blackpilled about the EVO entrees but it will probably go up as the deadline approaches

Bingo!

There’s a quiet storm on Twitter at the moment because a lot of would be competitive players don’t feel welcome by the SC competitive scene.

From my observation I don’t think it’s exactly that, there are a few players that come off as univiting based on there “drama levels” or opinionated stance on the game.

But the biggest crime is lack of engagement.
The only time I see OG players is if someone links a twitch stream of a tournament or team spooky’s weekly uploads which for some reason in becoming inconsistent with SC uploads.

YouTube needs more of a presence but I feel the community’s casual and competitive scenes can be really opinionated to the point it shoots itself in the foot.

Seriously the only regular YouTubers that frequent content for SC is spooky, scallywag and Dynasty (as controversial as the last one is)

Aris’ YouTube model is what would benefit us.
He was on like what 30k subs when Tekken 7 released on console.
And through is legacy knowledge videos and character breakdowns (which is how I and thounds of others on YT found him) has helped him to surpass 150k.
What’s helpful to understand is the views and engagement on Tekken related content on not just Aris’ channel but other streamers like him too.

Legacy knowledge and character breakdowns i.e help on worst match ups, identifying good match ups and anti guides.

For instance I still don’t know the conditions for a “flash clash” some times I think it’s because me and my opponent hit at the same time but others I get the same effect while my opponent can follow through with an attack.

And can just Guard (when your character flashes white when blocking) really nullify stamina damage?!!

Like why are Tekken players telling me this?
