If they held Yun-seong off for a season 4, LisaK would truly be the saddest sad of all sads.
Unfortunately, given how long it has taken them just get one Korean dao wielder into the game, combined with the priority those characters have been shown in the latter half of the series' history, and the apparent current narrative priorities, I don't think Yun-seong's chances are good when compared against most other options. Up until recently I considered Li Long the most likely contender to get left out if just one SE-SCIII legacy character was to be dropped, but I'm no longer certain of that. But I think we are probably in agreement that its either Li Long or Yun-seong likely to be left out in the cold by the end of season three.
...but Aeon presents a unique scenario where he's technically already in the game, and they could leave it like that, or patch it up a bit, or add him as a full character, but it's kind of up in the air.
True, but I tend to think that Aeon's half-finished status makes him more likely to be included at some point, rather than less: he represents a certain degree of value in that respect. That may not have been enough to cinch a spot in the first two season passes, but as we get down to relatively few pre-SCV legacy characters, the calculus changes. That and the fact that he's just a very iconic classic character who has appeared in virtually every game in the franchise.
You raise a good point about Rock representing an underrepresented fighting style, but Aeon represents an underrepresented race, so I'd argue he would be just as significant.
I just don't think leveraging in another race is going to be a priority for that first spot for them, as game developers. These are life long fighting game enthusiasts, and whenever they discuss their design priorities, they unsurprisingly talk first in terms of how the game will play, and what the new characters bring to the table in terms of balance and gameplay variety, not what they will look like. And there already is at least a half measure for getting lizardfolk into the game, from a visual variety standpoint; there's no comparable way to even half-measure an extra heavy into the game, aside from adding a new character. I also think that Aeon is just probably not popular enough to headline a season. I mean, it wouldn't exactly shock me to the core if it happened, but all factors considered, I think Rock probably makes more sense to them, once Setsuka and Hwang are no longer options.
And yes, my season 4 posting was a joke scenario, though personally, if I was given creative control, and I could do whatever I wanted, I would definitely fight to reclaim Ashlotte and Kamikirimusi, not as clones, but with their own unique styles.
Well, if we're talking about our dream scenarios, obviously I can't dismiss any option, as it's a matter of subjective preference. But to discuss the possibility in real-world terms, I think those characters are so improbable they border on absolutely impossible: as I've discussed in very detailed terms in the past and thus won't belaobour here, the question of the exact relationship of the guests artists to those designs as IP is very unclear from the official indicators that we have (in credits and so forth), and it's possible that Namco owns them outright, but there's got to be enough of an open question there that I don't see Namco's legal and product management departments greenlighting their return when the devs can just as easily create limitless new designs without the need to accrue costs for negotiating those rights--in fact, even reviewing the old contracts would be costly lawyer man-hours that add up in a hurry. It's a shame, because I too would love to see Kamikirimusi return, but given the budget/streamlined approach upon which this game and its continuing support DLC continue to be produced, I just don't see it happening.
I would also bring back Chester's dagger and bomb style, bringing it up to speed to SoulCalibur VI, and likely give it to a new character, perhaps one of Dampierre's lackeys.
If we were to add one of the SCIII quasi-styles to this game, fully fleshed out, my desire would be to see
Abelia or
Valeria's style. I mean, there's really very little chance of such a thing at this point (and even if there were, a fourth sword and shield style--no way) but man are those two movesets incredibly engaging, as a visual matter. I'm honestly surprised that more of Abelia's moves haven't been incorporated into Sophie, Cassie, and Lizzy's styles over the years.
But that still also is one of my dream scenarios for SoulCalibur VII, to get Dampierre, Alphard, Gisele, and Ludovigo as playable characters, all four of them.
Ugh, no thank you. I don't want to see even Diashi's cornball atrocity himself in a game as a legacy character, let alone a squad of such nonsense taking up four spots in a roster...
And we know I don't believe Algol or Viola have any possible chances until SoulCalibur VII, so they're not in the picture for me.
Up until recently, I would have agreed (but, well, you know that, because up until recently we agreed almost point for point on who was likely coming next and when). But after recent developments, I've re-assesed. I think either is an outside possibility for season 3; if there were four seasons, they would absolutely be locks. In any event, as we're talking more about ideal scenarios at the moment, I'd happily embrace Viola at any point in any season--that style is one of the silver linings to SCV's otherwise mixed gameplay.
