Soulcalibur Lost Swords Beta Test Announced...

Namco-Bandai recently announced an upcoming domestic beta test for Soulcalibur Lost Swords; which is scheduled to be released sometime by the end of the year. In case you forgot, Lost Swords is a single-player only fighting game; so chances are you may not be interested in this little title. However, the game will be free on PSN when it launches soon.

The beta test will be available between November 14 to 18. In the beta test, players will be able to test out a small portion of "Quest Mode" with Sophitia, Siegfried and Mitsurugi. In addition, players will have access to character creation and the shop. In order to try out the beta, you will simply need to download the 4gb trial when it becomes available on the Playstation Network. More information after the break [...]

UPDATE: Namco-Bandai has informed us that this "domestic" beta test is for Japan only. A Japanese PSN account will be required to download the beta. There are no plans to bring the beta test to other territories.

Lost Swords brings back some old features from the Soulcalibur series, as well as introduces a few new ones. LS re-introduces the armor break system from SC4 where you could destroy pieces of your opponent's clothes; although this time you must do a "Soul Break" move under certain conditions. Destroying your opponent's armor will drop treasure items. It also brings back a slightly altered version of SC4's Tower of Lost Souls Tag system.

I've just been... killing things...



Anyway, it seems like... if you take your time, don't skip ahead, and craft equipment when you fill up, you can get wo- I mean, uh, you won't ever be in any real danger.

Things are getting pretty mashy for me right now.

elements are like pokemon. Fire beats wind, wind beats water, water beats fire
 
If you guys are expecting CAS like SC5, well you'll be in for a disappointment because it's for entirely different purpose here, at least in this beta (meant more for power ups/support and not simply dress them up like barbie dolls =p) And you're forgetting there is no "online" in the sense your thinking.

By the way, anyone figure out the meters?

Then again this is just a beta test. We don't really know the full extent of how they're going to use it. I know there's no online play, hence knowing it's singleplayer only.

...and whether you're dressing them up, doing recolors, or using them as they are, you're still playing with "dolls," bro =P

Well, it doesn't seem to matter too much.
Different attacks have different elements. For example, pick Sophie with a weapon that has the color blue on the shield but also has green as a side element. If you do AA or BB or 236236B, it'll the weapon trail will be blue (meaning it's the water element). If you do 1AA, then the trail will be green (meaning it's the wind or grass or whatever element). All of Sophie's kicks have a yellow trail though.

I wonder what the final version will offer, if we will really see any new models like Taki for example. It looks like they're actually using SC5 Elysium's 2P model for Sophitia, her SC4 clothing and items being ported here along with other texture tweaks for weapons and stuff. Given that the beta has a pretty large file size, I wonder what else is lurking inside it. Wouldn't be surprised if other characters are there, just not accessible right now. The roster looks like it holds 16 spaces - but with those arrows to left and right, does it go further? We'll have to wait and see. It's good to see PS working on something - two more games to follow: "Unbreakable Soul" and another yet "unknown project".

I am happy for that, yes, tough I´m still waiting for Cassie and a Xbox 360 release of this game to be complete, lol

But yeah, a huge relief to me to see they still keep with cute Pyrrha

Yep. So, it's far worse to lose a legit match to a better player than to a broken, input-reading AI that uses an unbalanced, fighting mechanic that can do over 300 points worth of damage in combos, using moves no good player could react to.

16 Character Slots. Character Styles confirmed so far: Pyrrha, Sophitia, Taki, Astaroth, DJ, Pat, Siegfried, Nightmare, Mitsurugi, Ivy, Cervantes, Hilde, Rapheal, Aeon. Who are the final 2 styles that are going to be in Lost Swords.
