Strategy/Playstyle Discussion + general Q&A

for the matches against amy:
- use 33K/33K6 to beat her high attack spamming.
- nice bA6 hit, that move is pretty good against amy
- when using 1[A], try 1[A]6 GS B sometimes. It is nearly a frametrap on guard, only very fast high moves like amy 6BB can interrupt it. use it often

What's the difference between 33_99K and 66K?

more damage, otherwise the same as far as I can tell. only thing about 66K is that it's easier to do from a run kinda, plus I'm used to doing it like that and haven't completely broken the habit

here's something fun for you guys,

GS A normal hit > 3B

if they 2A it will trade with 3B and you will get guaranteed 44B for a LOT of damage. so after GS A normal hit I'd say throw or 3B

oh and also GS A CH... after that i mostly throw... but what else can i do instead of throw... im sure theres combos that do a lot more damage than throwing... hm?

I think that if you are able to recognize when it is a side or backhit for CH GS A you should go with a throw, otherwise its better to just use 4KK 33B6

hey Tiamat for what you posted earlier about the 2A trading hits with 3B, will this guarantee a 4A+B as well? I know that 44B is the much better option, but 4A+B is manly :P

oh and also for Nighty's wake-up...
can he do 22_88 A or 22_88 B after his wake-up?... because i saw someone do it on the vids... and its pretty effective.

22_88 A and 22_88 B has a good side step move
it's good for avoiding and counter enemy's vertical

but I don't think it's good for night's wake up :)

I don't like the term "wakeup" because it is ambiguous. When you say that I have no idea if you mean okizeme or anti-okizeme.

Just found something nice for NM and dunno if anyone said it already but it seems that we can buffer a:g:a when recovering from a blocked hit.
Helps a lot for punishing moves like launchers or anything between -15 and -18

I know about a:g:a being a good punishing tool but the buffer was unknown to me.
And i just found that a:g:a is not i15 but i14. Means its his best standing punishing move now and that NM can really be beasty in both low and mid punish.
train! train! train! train! train!

from blockstun you can do it with a:G+A fastest input but in the event it is blocked you will get the +2 instead of the _8 (roughly)

I don't care much for a:g:A. If your opponen't attack has a low or tech crouch property, even if they whiff, a:g:A will not punish. It'll go right over, obviously, since it's a high. Shit's fucked me over on several occasions.

It's not like one has the time to discern whether an opponent's attack ends in TC or not unless it's slow as fuck and very telegraphed. Punishing with a:g:A is a twitch thing, like Paul Phoenix deathfist; your body recognizes a whiff, and it comes out instinctively. There's no waiting to figure if it ends TC or not.

Also, Ch GS A > throw is the juice... if your opponent can't break throws or fails at guessing/reading patterns.

Has anyone ever tried WS NSS A+B then A+K? Just trying to think of new things. I know there are probably better move choices after the A+B, but this one is rather simple, and does more damage than the traditional 2A+B for that combo. Plus would it only land well on CH or could it be pulled off normally?

Are you talking about WS NSS A+B? I can't really test anything at the moment, but 66B, GS KK, and 2A+B are the standard followups. 66B tech traps into the 33B6 -> GS KK combo. GS KK is for guaranteed shorter range RO or wall combos, and 2A+B for soul charge wakeup.

On another note, do we have any extensive details about CH 22_88AB? I usually do 2A+B as a followup, which I assume is the standard. It seems right techable for most characters (like every other NM move), in which case 3B seems to work. 3B as a followup also seems to launch in some cases, but I'm having trouble replicating this with consistency-- it's probably character specific, has to do with the axis/alignment, or some kind of discrepancy with the training mode settings.

I skimmed through some of the threads in here and didn't see anything listed so I thought I'd bring this up for discussion.
