Viola General Discussion / Q&A

People complain about anything, specially when they lose. The other day, someone rejected to play with me again because I "spam" the attacks that requires bar(I was just using in my combos and I was Raphael)
Back on topic, if Amy is gonna replaces Viola in SCVI. Which attacks do you want to be transferred from Viola to Amy?
If Amy replaces Viola all I need is 2B+K, 33B, 66A+B, 3A, 1A, 3BA, and her aGI's.

And who dafuq are you :) Also dont use caps unnecessarily in the Viola SA :)

SC5 lacked depth in design, the chars, movelists, mechanics all seemed to just a waterdowned version of what they were supposed to be not to mention it is v rigid, almost like BAT on PS.
Obvs Im not expecting all chars to as complex as SC4 Ivy (which I love) but more like SB/SE taki, SC3 Setsuka, Sieg SC2.
I'm the cool Ezio player who happens to know some things about how this game is played. Many characters lost moves yes, but that was because many of the lost moves ranged from extremely situational to flat out useless. Another reason why the movelist changed was to reflect the overall system change with things like unsafe movement, JG, and meter management. By losing superfluous crap just about all the characters have clear methods on how to be played in certain ways and if anything, with things like JG and the high damage, nearly all characters stand a chance...whereas SC4 half the roster was booty.

Also you mention SCV is rigid? Play SCIV right now and say that with a straight face.

SC4 Ivy had a shitton of moves and she was changed drastically (as which happens with just about every new SC, right?) But don't forget to mention that SC4 Ivy bordered on broken given how stupid she was. Can't comment on taki or sets, but SC2 Sieg/Nightmare did not have a lot of depth but rather a lot of moves. Move quantity does NOT equal depth. Competitive SC2 Nightmares usually use just what? 3B and the moves that came from that, hellsweep, throws, the once in a while stance move, aga? Come on man.

SC4 Ivy was a god, and SO much fun. But they had a point. Most people couldn't pick her up because she was too complex for the average user. It's hard to make a style complex because it attracts attention but people get mad if they're too difficult to use.
I think people just assume that characters should be pick-up-and-go type playstyles, kinda like Aeon in SC5. He's got a few combos, but he's mainly pokes. Training won't do a /whole/ lot of good for you there. Then there's Viola who if you don't spend a decent amount of time training, you likely will rarely win a match.
Plenty of scrubs used her and plenty of competitive players used her.

Great..... wouldn't necessarily say cool from how you acting.
Yeah I agree the new design to force players to use chars in a certain way e.g. Ivy relies on zoning a lot more. But the fundamental reason why people play video games is entertainment, so when the next in franchise is streamlined to the point players are forced do X and only X if they want to win without any of the more varied approaches, it's fair for the players that aren't solely interested in competitive play to point it out.

I can only speak from my exp with taki, mitsu, ivy, tira and sets but SCV is alot more rigid without a doubt.

Clearly we are seeing from two different sides, you competitive and I entertainment.

This forum has been pretty dead, so I decided I'd post something here.

I recently went back to Vanilla SC5 and Viola was really different lol. 2B+K BE launches so high compared to now. You need to get the timing down to do 6B+K 66A (I couldn't really get it consistently). Fun fact: you could actually combo A+B BE into AAB because of the launch height. Still a useless move though. When I did her ToD with only one BE, post patch she gets 133 damage, but in vanilla she only gets a little more than 90.

Edit: forgot to mention that the 90 some damage isn't guaranteed. Since 66B was slower in both impact and freeze, 66A+B wasn't guaranteed. It still gets more damage that 9K though, since that only nets you 57 iirc.

Every character is "broken", as every character can exploit another characters weakness and win almost instantly.

Exploiting a few characters? Sure. Exploiting EVERY character? Noooooot so much. It seemed like very few characters could hold their own against an Ivy of good standing, much like Viola. Sometimes they've just got too much going for them.

Funny thing is, if Viola's 6B+K wasn't so damn good, I think she'd be knocked down a tier or two. That pressure is just too much. :b

I mean, a certain character can exploit another certain character, therefore said character can be considered broken to whomever they are fighting depending on if the player knows what they are doing and the other players weakness'. That's why I consider everyone to be broken. But I do see why you consider Ivy (SC4) and Viola to be more "broken" than other characters. Do you understand what I'm saying though? Aha.

I actually hate Viola's 6B+K, I think it's highly overused to be honest. Viola is one of my mains and when I use her I try to use 6B+K as least as possible (I barley use it in her 44A+ABK B/E combo) I just think it looks spammy when used multiple times after each other. That's just my view though :)

Yeah, every character has a weakness. Some characters are better suited to fight them, etc. That's why knowing the matchup is important. But for some characters, you can know the matchup inside and out and they still get the upper hand on most character. But Viola can outspam Leixia pretty consistently.

Yeah I get what you mean, but lack of knowledge doesnt = broken. E.g.

6B+K is Viola's zoning tool, its what makes her soo good and able to deal with the cast of characters. The issue with this game is there are moves that sooooo good 3B, 6K, 6B+K, etc

Viola is stupid because she has half bar + 50/50 mixups lots of low risk high reward opportunities, whereas someone like Omega or Nightmare have a more balanced approach.

When fighting BS chars being aware of their gimmicks and knowing how to handle or prevent them is key to screwing their shit up. Because that is usually all they have to them. E.g. One of best ways imo to handle viola is to be in the just outside of standing 66A range and keep her there, this gives you room to make 6B+K whiff and not eat her BS. It also means she will whiff a decent amount due her range and might need to play in ORB more, which while she is doing that removes the threat of dumb combos; providing you dont sidestep at disadvantage. GI your friend VS here as the recoil it causes messes up her flow.

I will say that I do hope for better character improvements in the new SC VI, because Viola ( Amy) could have at better grapple moves and her special could have been much better, for example it will be good to let the orb go straight to hit the opponent and than start doing damaged by sucking/freezing while you hitting them, instead of just have to time it which sometimes you will miss and that might make you lose the match.

Viola sucks if she beats you you just don't know the match up
Saying Viola sucks is inaccurate, she's decent good but not like the best nor worst. Mainly it depends who know how to use her move set and can be tactical and strategic in combat. Yeah some of her attacks like a few grapples," critical edge" with the orb when Viola say " Time for bed... Now sleep forever" could have been better. So usually it comes down how good the player is with Viola.
