What the hell is the point of guard break?

So guard break naturally knocks a person out of guard. Well that's all fine and logical, but in most cases the move guard crushing doesn't give enough advantage to hit them while they can't block...thus allowing them to keep holding block like they were and ...well block it. Besides Algol sneaking in a dirty bubble during the guard break...I can't see a single usage of advantage besides doing a really cool lightening effect and maybe making my opponent unable to punish?

Still really it doesn't seem to have any point. Am i missing something?

no you're not. practically speaking, guard break is a visual effect and nothing more

If you wanna get technical, it means it will induce a greater blockstun upon the opponent than the move would if it did not have a guard break property

its like an unblockable for KilliK and Maxi...

but guard breaking is good because they're generally safe moves if it lands. and good for raping the soul gauge.

there are a few GB moves that guarantee a hit, maxi, seung mina, and kilik have em.

Some give a little advantage on block and can catch GI happy opponents off guard due to extra delay on execution (usually the charged ones, like from sisters), some just look and sound fancy but have no real advantage, however they're probably safe if not whiffed (usually no need to charge, like yun and NM), and some guarantee a followup hit, essentially making it unblockable (usually out of stances, like kilik and X). Most do a decent amount of SG dmg but some are pretty laughable in this department.

in sc3 gb was really cool, no idea why they changed something that was as brilliant.

agreed with LG... its as steppable as most unblockable attacks in some cases more so. Question. Did GBs mean more in previous SC titles? I havent got anything solid to back this up but i seem to remember garanteeing hits after a blocked GB more frequently in SC3, Maybe my freinds were just shit at the game tho :P

Yun-seong, Xianghua, Kilik, Maxi, Seong Mi-na, Sophitia, Astaroth, Yoda, and possibly Mitsurugi (not quite sure about him) have guard breaks that let you get free hits.

Tira has one as well. Tiamat explained it. It varies by the move. GBs have no standard properties. It's definitely a momentum buster if you're unaware of a move's traits.

yeah i find it strange too that it's doesn't make sense that some moves are GB attacks. for example sets 66 A+B,
no frame advantage, no guarenteed hits and there isn't even a "normal" version of this move. Why not just make it a regular move and keep a difference between the usefull GBs and the fakes.
sophies 22 is another example of a usefull one, she can do her famous 236B right after it.

I remember back in SC2 when pretty much all of the soul charge GB's were actually useable. I don't even remember just how many frames NM's soul charged b4 gave on block... only that it was an absolute stack of frames.

MAXI: after any of maxi's 6 GB moves, I dont know of a single one that has any gauranteed damage afterwards. do tell.

BT B+K if blocked. I consider it somewhat of an evasive move. If its blocked it pushes the opp back far enough to NOT let them hit me while I recover.

LO K definetly has no gauranteed damage after it, all though it does seem to almost +0 on block

BL [K] kinda same thing as LO K

LI still no gauranteed damage...maybe RO A or something faster but gauranteed??

list goes on and on.

You gotta think of a GB move as a few different things. You CAN think of it as evasive, or as your opp is going to have to go through more frames to block again. Or as just straght flashy shit to play mind games with. But GB's if landed go for extra damage and disadvantage on block for your opp. If my maxi is throwing out GB moves its because Im after what comes afterwards (3B anyone) no so much the actual move itself. thats just me though
