Recently Crow Spaceboy, a writer for SRK, has released an article discussing his impressions of Soul Calibur 6 based on the demo build that was available at Texas Showdown from May 4-6. As someone who was present at both Final Round and Texas Showdown to play the demo, I have some grievances with his article, specifically his discussion of the mechanic Reversal Edge. While everyone is entitled to his or her opinion, I think it is dishonest and a disservice to readers to dismiss a mechanic as a "dismal failure" while clearly not understanding how the mechanic functions and how it affects the game and while stating "I did not once use this mechanic intentionally." You should have noticed by now, that this website has been receiving a series of updates throughout the weekend. Besides the visual changes, the code behind the website has been rebuilt from the ground up. This has been a near 6 month long project which has finally come to fruition this weekend. With any big updates, there are not only a lot of changes, but also possibly a lot of bugs. If you discover any bugs, usability problems, or perhaps just have some feature requests, let me know.
This website is now completely ad-free! No ad-banners, no ad-links, no native ads; ever. Not even to guests. I won't be going through the majority of the changes in this post, because the majority of changes are behind the scenes and only moderators/administrators will notice them. There are however, a few front-end changes that may be of concern.
Breaking up the usual pattern of reveals every Thursday, Taki's trailer was shown off on a niconico stream today. Thankfully, Flying Wonkey from AvoidingThePuddle sniped the stream archive before they took it down. It appears that her trailer was not meant to be revealed this early considering the trailer is not officially uploaded on any major channel.
In the Taki trailer you can see that she has tattoos when she does ninjutsu techniques. You can also see some of the new Indian Port stage. We'll update the article with a higher resolution video when Namco releases it.
Bandai Namco revealed Siegfried today. It should be interesting to see how they incorporate him into the game considering he is also Nightmare in SOULCALIBUR VI. Returning stages Proving Grounds and Indian Port from SC3 have been revealed as well.
Namco Bandai held a special event for SOUL CALIBUR VI this passing Thursday in San Francisco, California. Fortunately for me, I was invited to attend and compete in the exhibition portion of the event. Though there was no announcements, or any sort of reveal, we did get to experience more coverage on gameplay.
As of this morning, two more characters have been revealed for SOULCALIBUR VI! Firstly, surprising no one, Ivy makes her return to the series after becoming a staple since SC1. But in addition to Ivy, Namco has revealed a return for Zasalamel. Zasalamel first appeared in SC3, but was previously absent from SC5.
Last night, Namco had a press event in San Francisco. At this event, they revealed four upcoming characters for SOULCALIBUR VI. In addition to the expected staples of Nightmare, Xianghua and Kilik... we also got our first look at a brand new character: Grøh.
Since SOULCALIBUR VI takes place before other titles in the series, there remains some questions about a few of the characters in this trailer. Obviously with Nightmare and Kilik. Are Siegfried and Nightmare still one person? Is Kilik currently being possessed by the Kali-Yuga; though he appears to be wearing the Dvapara-Yuga. Screenshots to follow.
While an official release date for SOULCALIBUR VI has not been announced, you can none-the-less pre-order the game from Amazon. Pre-ordering now will ensure you will receive the game as soon as it is released sometime in 2018.
