Raphael General Discussion

here s a question i want to ask everyone why do u play with raphael?

What the shit kind of question is this??? He's a fucking VAMPIRE. nuff said

No but really, he was the first SC character who's character design really jumped to me. And I thought his fighting style was something that was long overdue in SC

I started using him early in this game because I remembered how annoying he was to fight against in SCII. So I said, "Hey, he might be good to start with. lol", and I just got decent with him and comfortable with his entire movelist/combos. It's hard to move on to other mains and learn everything little thing about another character again.

I used to fence recreationally and was like.. "oh cool! a fencing character in a fighting game" during sc2. Now I use him in SC4 since I like to space and poke, but now people are beginning to step quite well and its an uphill battle for poor ol' Raph.

I use raph because I am lazy.

Started playing SC competitively in SC2...I prefer 2P side...Raph was default 2P character.

Then, he was a relatively underrated character by most, so he was tournament worthy enough to play for real

Then, he was so terrible in 3 that I just stuck with him before everybody gave up..

Now...I'm one of the Raph guys, so I have to stick with him...

Actually (got this idea from the GD) has anyone checked their battle records ?
Play Time: 251
Critical Finishers: 99
Impacts: 150
Just Impacts: 12
First Attacks: 5104
Soul Crushes: 119
Wall Hits: 232
Attacks Landed: 95922
Attacks Guarded: 36748
Grapple Breaks: 531
Movement Distance: 57611 m
Times Fought Online: 2217
Times Won Online: 1497
Matches Won with Low HP: 507
Number of Perfects: 237

means I seriously need to practice JI...which i probably only got with 8A+B. I dunno what this means as a raph user, but compared to some of the other posts it seems he has a pretty high "first-hit" ratio, and i have a pretty crummy perfect ratio too.

I really want to main Raph again in this installment, but am having a lot of trouble beating the CPU with him. I fight them on very hard mode and they block everything I am doing. I can beat them with Nightmare, but for some reason not with Raph. He just feels so different from his SC3 incarnation. Does anyone have any advice on what moves to work with to win with Raph. I miss the way he used to work, but I really want him to work in this game.

use more soul crush moves, raph can drain a soul gauge quickly

good moves for this are:

44A+B

66A+B

prep A+B(very unsafe on block)

236B (VERY unsafe on miss)

6k

66K

Because he's hot. :P
Not only that,I really like his moves and his attire. <3
My best friend mained him from the beginning and uses him pretty well,he inspired me to pick him up and try to main him. So far I am doing decently, but I am going to put my focus on him now because I grew to like him a lot. n_n

I play Raph because I like his style; both combat and clothing. Granted he is much harder to win with then say Kilik, as his options are lower-tier and not as rewarding - he's still fun to use, and there is a degree of satisfaction that accompanies this difficulty.

I Liked him since SCII (how odd :P). My Bro. played Sieg (NM) all the time and his AE was a beast on NMs low sweeping blows, and his prep step (I forgot what its called) worked great to. Plus he looked awesome. Heck I even took fencing lessons because I liked the style so much.
Oh, and now he's a vampire so even better.

Why do they weaken him with every patch? Is it not bad enough that most of his moves are near useless? All I got reading the posts before mine is that Raph has a very bad move set, and he can't pull off combos :(. I almost feel FORCED to spam with him in SCIV.

Has anyone noticed he does not have a single guard break?

44A+B will rape their hp (not their soul guage) if blocked.

Also, 11B is insane against the soul guage.

im writing this here just because it doesn't deserve its own thread

moves that pwn step

44A-on step its stun knock down so go into prep K:K at tip range the just will actually hit

WS A-has great knock back and great range

2A-not much damage personally i prefer K

K-near %100 tracking ,replaces BB in my heart

4K-good quick anti step

A+B A-near impossible to block on reaction with step G

8 A+B-still don't like it

2B hits rollers but not steppers

3A-stuns

and 22_88 k-also stuns

K can still be stepped to his left if they time it well, and it's high..... you're probably better off with 2A, since the range difference is neglibible.

I prefer 2A because it TC's as well and can't be ducked. Against a lot of characters like Taki, you're going to get hit a lot if you only step killer is high.

Use for 6A, 1BB (or 1B), 3A, and 11_77 B

I've noticed that 6A, 1BB, and 3A all seem to be fairly bad moves, I haven't really tested it out much to see how to use them well however, so that's why I'm posting this.

What exactly does the 3A do when it hits someone, because they look like they stagger for a split second?

Also, what is the exactly difference between doing a 11B and a 77B? Which one would I use if they roll to the left (if I'm 1P) ? to the right?

Thanks everyone! I'm trying to not give up on Raphael and hopefully I can implement some good anti-stepping game for all of those people who LOOOOOVVVEE to sidestep Raph.

Use for 6A, 1BB (or 1B), 3A, and 11_77 B

1BB = I'm trying to use this after knock-down. The 2nd hit of 1BB gives really good pushback if they get hit, and thus the opponant will most likely guard against it. Having 1B blocked isn't that bad (due to the possible 2nd hit), but it's a so-so mixup, but more risk for less reward.

Can't comment much on the other 3 moves, since I use 11B almost purely for soul gauge damage, and the 3A and 6A i toss out just to surprise my opponants (or accidental)
