Astaroth and Viola Announced at TGS

Tokyo Game Show started today (half a day ago, due to timezones) and already a metric ton of information has been released about various fighting games for the upcoming year. Soul Calibur V is of course no exception with Famitsu getting the details on two new confirmed characters!

The first revealed character is a returning favorite... Astaroth; who if my math is correct, is now 23 years old. The second new character is "Viola"; who attacks with disembodied jewels, very similar to Z.W.E.I. She is working with Z.W.E.I. to accomplish something or another.

OK I just the new trailer (Twice, Once in slow motion) The Graphics are a lot better than SC4, I can say that with confident. Something about the textures...

Also at first a i thought Viola looked lame, but now she looks like one my new mains... lol wth SoulTeam (bring it)

Everything looks so theatrical, I love it! 2012 is either the best year ever or...

Fighting games are coming so hard!! I luv that I have always loved this genre and now it's coming back so hard!!

I assume so mate - Siggy's mini portrait with text starting with "Opening" implies story mode's map-screen. That marker hitting "Rhenus" (the river Rhine) marks the border of the Holy Roman Empire, so it makes sense his journey starts there. Plus it looks like a beefed up version of the one in SC3. Love the latin names for the regions, cities and countries etc.

 

Astaroth's stage has always been the Kenpaetu(sp?) Shrine, albeit in different forms.

About Viola:

There is definitely a possibility of her being our sweet Amy, but there's still the possibility of her NOT being Amy. We'll just have to wait and see.

I hope they bring back the Character and stage profiles! That really helped with infomation about what was going on in the game and with the characers and why they were there and yada yada lol

We really need a FAQ for this at this point.

Has no memory of her past
Same style and color of dress
Same style stockings
Accessorizes with roses like they're going out of style
Same taste in corkscrew hair
Same odd eye color

 

I've never seen an instense in a fighting game where a characters Identity was changed. So, with all do respect, I rule that out as an explination.

Lee Chaolan took the alter-ego "Violet" in Tekken 4.

JayCee is Julia Chang in the upcoming release of Tekken Tag 2.

Both are even from the same company... Viola being Amy is certainly a possibility, though I'm not saying I think she is. At least if Amy comes back she'll likely receive a change of wardrobe. I hated her SCIV design, no offence to Amy fans. Regardless of if she's Amy or not, I'm liking Viola.

Also, if she is Amy, then Raphael has to come back as THE fencer of SC. Hopefully cured and just an arrogant nobleman again instead of a vampire, but that's unlikely. He could totally pull off the middle-aged, stuck up noble character. Ah well, you win some, you lose some. I'll just be happy to see my main back, and hopefully higher-tiered.

Also, Astaroth's new design is my favorite one yet! And the stages look incredible! And it's good to see SC characters finally finding love XD Xianghua and Kilik (though they likely aren't in the game), Sieg and Hilde, Zwei and Viola

It's the attack of the couples! Haha

Ok, so get this they Don't have the same style since wen did Amy weild an orb of energy? Second off ivy had roses too and third off Amy has red hair, so what happened to her hair?her eyes are brown, how is that an odd color? Just coz she lost Herr memory doedoesn't mean she is amy. So I ask again, other than clothing similarities and memory loss, how is this Amy!?

 

Looking foward to see the demo on the hands of french players, so we can see the game at high level testing.

Reading the post about the new nightmare host made me flash back to the dream I had last night.. Ivy was the Soul Edge host and she was wearing the male Pegasus-type armor..
I thought it was funny.. Anywho, from the TGS trailer, it looks like they're bringing back the exhibition? whatever it was called when you watch them do a short practice clip. I missed those in IV.
Also, the new Viola chick seems cool, but less like a Soulcalibur character and more like something I'd expect to see from a Marvel vs Capcom-type game..

No memory of her past, so why would she have memory of wielding a sword? It's been 17 years. That's older than Amy's entire lifetime. She couldn't pick up a new weapon in 17 years?

You can't glance over clothing similarities. This is not the real world where someone might wear the same outfit. This is character design. These characters are crafted. She's been crafted from head to toe to have visual indicators all over her that evoke Amy. Hell, Maxi has been wearing white vests for over 20 years. Why? Because that's his look and game designers don't stray from those outfits even if we wished they would.
