Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

So, it does seem like more effort goes into varying male anatomy than females
I honestly think the issue is Japan's more ridged standards of how they define culturally appealing women are hindered to beauty standards rather than just creativity. Then the other side of that is the other angle where female characters are designed more for fan-service niches than toward anything truly life-like and different. Its either 'standard commercial female ratio' or ''Super busty & marketable." Their pool of consideration is small or too fantasy-grounded.

*Looks at the comments on sexuality & male to female ratio.*

...Man society is really messed up...
Just part of the human condition more than anything else, unfortunately the west at the moment is utterly fantatically obsessed with race, sex and orientation like it's something that needs to be put on a high pedastal so some people can feel a connection. I don't get it, never have, never needed any of those things to feel connected, I either find something appealing or not. I get more pissed off having that shit forced fed to me, like that's all the character is rather than being part of the character. I mean take this for example, Big Boss is bisexual but instead of ham fisting it down your throat it's a funny mini game with Miller in Peace Walker. That's how you should do it and if Maxi is going to be gay I would rather be handled in a natural way rather than "Here is Maxi and here is his gay lover" which seems to be all the range in video games these past few years. That shit is cringe.

Male video game characters are usually 6"2 square jawed babes with broad shoulders, and no power fantasy is not a thing, they just make hot characters because it is better to look at eye candy.

Just adding my share to this discussion.

- There are give or take, double the amount of male SC characters than there are female SC characters. Adding one or two more females in SC6 would be a blessing not a curse.

- Maxi being gay affects his gameplay in precicely 0 ways. I'm personally not for making it explicit since he and almost all other SC characters' sexualities thus far have been ambiguous, but if it suits his story then it's okay.

- The queerness of a character only causes a disconnect with the audience if the audience member is homophobic.

- The height and weight of a female character matter little in the long run and aren't really valid arguments to make about "creative variation" when you can put the SC girls of similar height such as Pyrrha, Leixia, Natsu, Seong-Mi'na etc next to each other and immediately detect the visible differences in both their aesthetic character design and playstyle. SC has never had a situation similar to Kitana/Mileena/Jade or Subzero/Scorpion/Reptile/(the other one I forgot?) from MK who are basically palette swaps of eachother in terms of visuals

- Saying female characters are easier to make than male characters because male characters have oftentimes more dynamic physiques in the SC games is a non-argument. Choosing the height and muscular ratios of a character are not creatively taxing at all.

- If making good* female characters was as easy as people say it is then don't you think we would have more than just 15 of them? Compared to 30 men?**
*All SC females are legendary save for the SCV replacements, compared to the many boring male characters that SC has sported over the years.
**Not fact checking just going off memory

The need for SC6 news is strong. Sure, there is that slight bit translated from the interview, but that's meh. Here's hoping we get news sooner rather than later. So many questions that need answers. Also holding onto hope we'll see some proper gameplay of Zas, Ivy, and Geralt. Maybe a multiplayer/offline vs./training demo with the characters we've been seeing used up to this point? Patient as I am, and I'm fine with waiting since it's better for the game to turn out as its best, but still finding myself here daily hoping for any news to randomly appear.

*On an unrelated note, I believe Overwatch's female character designs were brought up? I hardly play and don't care, but fun fact: Did you know D.Va's actually apparently a significant problem in balancing and bug fixing more than the rest of the characters due to mechanics and the system they made for how she works, on a gameplay front? Found that out recently and just semi-interesting since she's one of the characters I use.

l0l nice find, but I don't think they'll release SC6 in July.

I dont want the game to be overrun by female fighters. This coming from a man who loves women, once a fighting game roster has an over abundance of one sex than the other things get a little crazy.
I play DOA, Ive seen the effects first hand lol.
I actually like that there is a new (potentially two) new male characters. As from a design standpoint males are usually harder to make varied and unique.
Im still holding that first leak as true as up until it hasnt been made false by any reveal and it seems accurate. (Though I really hope Maxi isnt gay....)
Uh...you know that this game was a sausage fest by majority, right? Then again, a lot of fighting games are. Don't get me started on Tekken's roster xD

Anybody in this thread want hwang or yun seong?
Hwang's coming out of the SC waiting room for sure l0l

Unlikely as it certainly is, I'd be fine if they actually did do that July release. Sure, we wouldn't have a lot of news, or perhaps that means we'd get a lot and faster up until then which would be nice, but think about it. Would be a literal copy of the original release, and if they genuinely were 70% done back in December, who's to say the rest might not be very close to complete? After all, just because we've not seen or heard anything on things yet doesn't mean it isn't finished. Especially considering how long they've said it was in the works. At least we can assume based on what they've said and their goal of getting it out this year, that it's not entirely out of the realm of possibility to be a complete product and out around that.

Hypothetically, they could just as well show and tell us quite a bit even in that short of a time, then hide the rest so we have to discover things firsthand. I highly doubt it's even possible, but it's not unreasonable. Also putting that out there with some thought behind it, 'cause I actually also can't think of anything in particular for it to compete with in that month release-wise, though I could easily be wrong. Probably going to just be the same demo again though, unfortunately. Cool that the lineup's announced so far in advance though.

i dont know..it was at 70% 4 months ago, and the game were over 2 years in development, i dont think they will complete that 30% in just 6 months from December, and besides, that 70% could be a slower percentage to be done..or faster

Just saying it's not out of the question, myself. After all, we also don't know how much time was spent on planning and such vs. actually putting it into practice. Your point's just as reasonable though. For all we know, we could end up not seeing it done until a December release or later, which would also be fine by me. I just personally hope the pace of news on some level, even if it's tiny bits of information and reveals here and there, picks up. But, since someone else pointed out a few times that things are roughly in line with past installments, I expect nothing. Other than the eventual launch and being able to play it bringing me to tears of joy kinda.

Anyway.... I wonder if we will get the classic individual arcade like story mode, with each character fighting through the arcade to get their own cutscene at the end. Or more like how we currently view fighting game story modes where there is a clear single story and you get to fight with multiple members of the cast throughout.

Hopefully they do it classic style. It's part of the charm if old school fighting games imo. Maybe even multiple cutscenes depending on different criteria. Since it is the current gen, they have the memory space nowadays :)
