Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

It is about nuance because you're asking us to look beyond what we're being shown through the game, which is literally an imbecilic barbarian screaming "Get lost!" and "Bangoo!!" at complete strangers.

Oh, he has an adoptive son that he cares about? Woah, such depth! It absolutely fits with the image of a bloodthirsty barbarian because bloodthirsty barbarians are people, and people like to have and raise their own families. It's not special. Bangoo isn't special and neither is Rock for caring about him.
You know, for someone who claims not to hate Rock, you sure do say a lot of mean stuff about him. Kappa

I wasn't trying to argue that he's a super deep character (he's not) or that he was the first character to ever adopt a son (also no). My point was that the games tell us he's a good guy, which I think even you understood at some level, even if you won't admit it. And it's fine to hate him and hope that he never comes back, but I hope I helped you understand why his fans might like him.
Why y'all taking Rock so seriously when he's a joke character meant to be taken at face value
Because he's a cool character (especially in his SC1 outfits) who I like.
Does Rock go BANGOOOOOOOO when he climaxes?
No, but I do.

Rock is a simple man. He survives. He protects Bangoo. He's happy. He's also so pure that Soul Edge does not taint him; he's literally incapable of evil.

And fair, but it doesn't make for an interesting character - it especially stands out against the storied individuals that make up the rest of the cast. He has virtually no relation or interaction with the rest of the cast from a story perspective. Which in itself is fine, but when you compare him to a character such as Aeon Calcos who is similar in that respect, Aeon is a much more interesting character. In part because of his tragedy, but he also exists to show players the ruthless and vindictive nature of Soul Edge.

There's nothing *wrong* with Rock, and I accept him as part of the franchise, but the reality is that he's a very bland character and it's incredibly obvious that he was not quite given the same love with his design as other characters.

Anyways with the Rock fetish aside.

Interesting character thought out for Soul Blade but never was.Up to now anyways.

Along with her there were many interesting ideas that were cut out. Who knows, this could be Groh's dad base.

What do y'all think would be the basis for someone being DLC and not included in the actual game? And aside from that, what would be some factors that would keep a character from being DLC and being included in the game? (Not being popular enough, conflicts with the actual timeline, etc.)

Okubo said in his recent interview about roster, that they selected the characters who appeared during and before the events of SC1 so I think that many characters from SC1 will be there for example: Rock, Hwang, Seong Mina etc. He also said that they added some characters from SC2 and SC3 because the time interval are really close to SC1 and they are fit in the storyline (for example: Zasalamel, Cassandra, Talim, Raphael, Tira and Setsuka)!

I feel like the base roster's preferential treatment is given first and foremost to those with story relevance and series staples, so as to not be linked to SoulCalibur V, since it would appear that they realize that that was a nightmare and shouldn't be repeated. They're also going back to SoulCalibur II for inspiration, while the baseline for the story is SoulCalibur I, which will continue to SoulCalibur II, which then also includes SoulCalibur III-IV by osmosis, because they take place within the same year. That said, earlier leaks said I-III, excluding IV, so the likelihood of Hilde, Algol, and Dampierre making it in for the base roster seems a much lower chance.

Those who would be considered for DLC would be those with unique fighting styles or those with significant fanbases where marketability would be high. So a prime candidate for DLC would be Setsuka, who has little to no story relevance, but has a unique and iconic fighting style, and tons of people would want to buy her. Hilde could also make a great DLC candidate since she wouldn't have to be in the story yet her fighting style remains quite unique. Amy is another, though her fighting style is derived from Raphael, her fanbase is high enough that she would absolutely sell like hotcakes.

I hope not, but the Korean cast might actually be cut out of the base roster completely, because they have never really been all that relevant to the story, and 2/3 of them have their styles represented by other characters. The main credence for this comes from the leak that said that Seong Mi-na might not make it in. Seong Mi-na came first, but Kilik totally eclipsed her style. Hwang was a Mitsurugi/Xianghua clone and was phased out by Yun-seong, who has the true Chinese Sword style, and the only one who isn't really represented by another character. That didn't stop them from mixing his weapon and some moves into Leixia for SoulCalibur V, however. Still, I could see a scenario where they include Hwang, Seong Mi-na, and Yun-seong as a DLC bundle.

Li Long, Algol, and Dampierre might could make it in as DLC, but their fanbases are much lower, though at least for Le Bello, they seem more vocal.

Depending on how far they're willing to stretch for DLC characters, it's also possible that Z.W.E.I. and Viola would also be considerations, since they both have unique fighting styles, they're the only part of SoulCalibur V I could really see making a return for SoulCalibur VI.

I dont know if im tripping but i was on my phone looking for SC6 news and stumbled on this. Is Cervantes already confirmed or not?

Now now, you're being too hard on the poor fella, sometimes he does spill out some truth. I know for a fact he (at least once) made a video to say that he has nothing to say... I mean that quite literally.

He popped up in discord to defend his Cervy and Voldo thumbnails once. He claimed it totally wasn't clickbait and that he only did it to pressure Namco to reveal them sooner.

I told him if he believes he has that kinda pull with Namco he is deluded.

Then he deleted all his posts and left the server.

We have a discord server? Do tell more, the forums are taking a thousand years to open any page or send my posts, I could use another place to discuss that. Regarding Dynasty, I'm surprised he still gets views with the ammount of clickbait he has, recently he made a video with some Mortal Kombat-ish character saying something like "MK release date revealed?" only to say that nothing was revealed, like, what the hell is that? Its literally the opposite of what is being said in the title. It would suck if he continued to do that with SC too, its incredibly annoying that we have to tell people that all his theories are fake and his videos are baits.

Just click on the chat link.

I also told him that bad info was just upsetting people. He seemed surprised.

Random thought: if we're getting a story trailer before CaS, we'll most likely see some example characters. Same with pre-order bonuses most likely.
