Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

Yeah, I play Tekken 7 with a friend in Japan. I'm on the west coast. Game still feels great.

But I think it helps that Tekken is a slightly slower game than SC. Hopefully someone with more knowledge will show up to prove my point (or prove me an idiot), but I'm pretty sure jabs in Tekken are a few frames slower than most 2As in SoulCalibur.

Tekken is faster than SC, in SC games, the fastest pokes are AAs, and thoose are 12/11 frames, and in tekken the equivalent poke is "1" that is 10 frames. Also throws in SC are 15 to 17 frames and in tekken are 10 to 12 frames. Tekken is a much faster paced game than SC, you really have to think much faster and there is a lot of pressure in the matches because 1 single mistake can cost you 1/2 of your life bar.

Tekken 7 netcode being bad is a common misconception, because Tekken's online was very bad for a long time (it recieved first proper patch only half a year after release, which I'm still pretty butthurt about), BUT this was not because of netcode, but because of how buggy and reatardedly working all of online modes were. The problems were not in the netcode, but in the game itself. Netcode is actually pretty good.

Regarding Tekken 7 the issue isn't the netcode but the way UE4 communicates with the PS4 (same issue with SFV). This has been fixed now to the point where the PC literally has just 1 frame advantage, plus PC version has options to turn off screen tearing so all this extra reduction is extremely minimal and pointless for average to high players as you've got to have reactions like Qudans to really benefit from it.

Considering Tekken 7 is on an older version of UE4 (which I've also heard is the reason why loading is so slow) and now the frame delay fixed on PS4 it will be safe to assume that SC6 will be a snappy expirence both in loading times and controller input.

Tekken has had loading issues since it went HD. There seems to be an asset or file management problem rather than an engine problem.
There's something else going on there given PC loading times are billions of times faster than the console versions. Hard to imagine a CPU bottleneck (which would really be the only major difference between the PC and console versions) causing that much of an issue for a game that runs at 1080p max on a PS4 Pro. (Xbone1 hasn't even gotten a patch IIRC.)

If I'm wrong, then correct me please, but aren't arcades which run Tekken 7 are basically PCs (unike for example arcade machines for Dissidia NT, which are very similar to PS4)? If so then everything perfectly makes sense, as in case of Tekken console version is a (badly optimized) port and not the PC one as it usually is.

Current console technology is extremely close to what's in PCs (except for few differences like a unified RAM pool for CPU and GPU). My guess would be the big difference is in harddrive speed. I imagine most people run their favourite games off SSD and that is lightning fast compared to mechanical harddrives. Maybe the arcade version also used an SSD.

You know...I am really not one to worry about the roster, but I'm feeling a bit disillusioned by the fact that it's looking likely we'll get so many characters as DLC that deserve to be in the base game. The fact that characters like Cassandra, Cervantes, Yoshimitsu, Raphael, Setsuka etc. are possible DLCs instead of in the base roster of this game is a tad upsetting. You know what, add Seong Mi Na and Hwang/Yun Seong to that list too, maybe even Hilde. Some of these characters were not even given the opportunity to see the light of day in 5 and the next prime chance we get to see them respected by the developers again they're just brushed aside as extra characters to be payed for? It's just unfair and wrong from my eyes. It's great we're getting characters like Sophitia, Kilik (normal), Xianghua, Taki, Zasalamel etc. in the base roster again but without some of these other iconics can we really enjoy it as much as possible? It's just disappointing to think that we may very well end up with an incomplete base roster again that disrespects certain iconic characters after the travesty and major disappointment that was 5's roster. It doesn't sit right with me at all.

The netcodes for SCIV & SCV are good and shitty in their own ways. SCIV's is pretty laggy, but does not disconnect very often. SCV's doesn't have much lag, but disconnects often if you're on PSN. SCV on XBL has the best of both worlds, no lag and no frequent disconnections. But it wasn't free.

My wish is for an online system with SCIV's almost non-existent disconnectivity rate and SCV's smooth, lag free play.

PS4 is SATA2 speed while PC can fully exploit SATA3 speed. Can't remember if Tekken 6 installed on the hard drive so you would have been throttled by the disc read rate and even if it was on the hard drive I wouldn't be surprised PS3 is SATA1 speed.

Verge can you confirm CaS?

I do wonder if we could have like 8 more characters instead of CaS one say, if it would be worth it
I wouldn't buy it, so that's at minimum 1 customer lost. This is the only one with such a system, as such those like me are left with no other choice but to buy this game if they have CaS ifwe want such content. As such should they remove such content, and in doing so leaving me with no such options as they were the only ones to provide it, I'd have to vote with my wallet, as would likely anyone else like me.

CaS due to it's unique status is guaranteed sales, but in the same vein, that also means removing it results in losing those sales.

Let's just agree that there will be no going back to the days of scIV's online. (^_^;)
Or worse...SC2 HD Online netcode on console.

I feel SCIV would've been worth replaying more with other people across the world if the netcode wasn't so shit, even on 4 bars it's still feels pretty rough.
