Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

I found it unusual that Ivy's position on the Character select screen was the opposite of Xianghua's, implying that they could be enemies whereas I clearly don't remember it being canon in any form. But now it appears they have a special dialogue before the battle that is far from being friendly. Besides, in the story mode trailer Ivy made only one appearance and she was strangling Xianghua saying "I like that". So I guess there's enough rationale to assume Ivy's got a new enemy, or maybe rival or a target to eliminate. Since it's always been Cervantes for her, I'm totally intrigued to see how her communication with Xianghua will go (the dialogues must be full of sarcasm) and how their relationship will develop throughout the story, since at the end Ivy must realize she was misled and regret her actions. Will she apologize? Hyped.

Alternatively they were just placed opposing each other because neither has a particular rival (barring Ivy and Cervantes but both are being placed on the right side as the darker-aligned characters anyhow) so it made sense in terms of logistics and has zero actual meaning.

They were kind of enemies relative to each other due to their alliances with and opposition to other characters. X, Kilik, and Maxi teamed up to take down Nightmare and his group of Ivy, Astaroth, and Lizardman back in SCI. But you're right that there was no mention of them ever fighting or even meeting each other in the old timeline, so that might have been changed with SCVI.

I guess they’re chosen vessels for the swords?
Remember Ivy was born from rape as to allow Soul Edge a host. Plus they seem to align with their factions assuming Astaroth is opposite Maxi.

Somehow I’m starting to think that the middle characters are influential w/ the swords which may mean Raph is beneath Geralt if not an important character.

Talim and Tira do make good opposites I guess and so would Cassie and Lizzy being their connections to the holy warriors but not exactly fond of their gods.

Did some speculation:

10 slots(+ 4 DLC):

1. New character (confirmed)
2. Lizardman (confirmed by story trailer)
3. Cervantes (confirmed by story trailer)
4. Astaroth (hinted by the ESRB rating)
5. Talim (hinted at twitter by Okubo)

+ We saw Inferno in the trailer (he might take a slot)

Believe these 5 will be in surely. So the remaining 5(or 4) + 4 DLC slots

6. Tira (high possibility)
7. Setsuka (high possibility)
8. Seong-mina (high possibility)
9. Voldo (high possibility)
10. Hwang / Yunseong (high possibility)
11. Raphael (high possibility)
12. Cassandra (mediocre possibility due to shared fighting style with Sophitia)
13. 2B or other Guest Character (confirmed)

I think If they are going to cut a character out It's going to be Rock out of the ones we know.
Other than that I think It's quite safe to say that all of the above characters (with a couple surprises possible) have pretty high possibility to be in the game after all DLC.

Also the current revealed roster is: 9 males & 4 females (and with the ones above, the roster would be 15 males & 9 females not counting guest character, new character & Inferno). I think It's safe to assume at least the new guest character will be female (other new character will probably be Groh's father?).

I think Astaroth was hinted at in the E3 trailer as well wasn't he? Also I do not think the ESRB statement necessarily means that Astaroth will be in. Rock and Lizardman used to use Axes. Also new characters may use an axe. So as much as Astaroth is a staple and honestly my third main he is not as guaranteed as as those pieces of information listed.

Lizardman and even Cervantes just to play the devils advocate could be boss characters and not playable but I highly doubt that in Cervantes case.

We already confirmed that Groh's father will likely be a boss and not playable. Also Inferno may be not playable. Your list is good though. I'm just arguing points.

Interestingly they could completely change history and have Amy stand on her own, or have Raphael die while saving Amy, they could write anything in that they wanted if they wanted a fencer.

Astaroth's stage was shown in the nvidia video @1:22.

Im really hoping that Astaroth and Lizardman are the next reveals, seeing as we havent been shown too much representation for the villains of this game, and since that stage is often shared between the two of them, it seems really likely we'll see them revealed before too long. Plus i just want to see Lizardman asap

Anyone else noticing slight hiccups performance-wise, or have I truly lost my mind? Otherwise, the new footage is looking phenomenal, hopefully ending alot of people's doubts about the game's graphical direction.

The desert, Proving Grounds, and forest have the best music though.

The choir for Ornstreinsburg makes it epic. Too bad the stage is kind of too dark.

Almost wish with a button press you can get an alternate version for the stage if we can’t have any more. Not that I’m complaining since that field is beautiful.

That Geralt seems a bit basic. There doesn't appear to be much to him? I get the impression he might have the shortest move list? When I checked all the E3 footage I had a very hard time finding anything unique in terms of strings or mechanics that actually gives him an advantage. He has an orange glow during one move and then he has a move with a pink glow and hour glass symbol - but neither seem to do anything!?

The only unique traits are his signs by the seems of it. One is a trap that didn't look like it did anything in the footage. The orange glow is Quen and looks like it can be used as hyper armor based on how it seemed a few times. Signi, the flame, can either be a charged unblockable or in general deal a little damage through guard for its duration even at a range. One is a knockback of sorts but it's either just a chain ender or after RE from what it seemed. Far as I know, Axii which effects the mind has only been shown in his Critical Edge.
