Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

You mean explaining Groh's weapon after we saw it at the end of the initial announcement trailer. Sure the character wasn't officially announced yet but we had already seen his weapon, and it's a pretty obvious guess that it splits apart considering it looks like he's holding two swords by their ends.

Huh???????? He told us about Groh well before he was teased in the first trailer.

For the story mode characters, my guess would be that it would look something like this:

Mitsurugi
Taki
Kilik
Maxi
Xianghua
Grøh

Voldo
Ivy
Cervantes
Lizardman
Astaroth

Nightmare
Siegfried
Sophitia

[New Character]
Yoshimitsu
Raphael
Talim

Zasalamel
Geralt

I doubt that Grøh would be the only new character relevant to the story so judging by the text sizes, it appears that the slot between Sophitia and Yoshimitsu makes the most sense to include a new character.

Also, I can't seem to find any official statements which tells us that the game is a reboot or a remake. Everything appears to point towards "revisiting events from the original SoulCalibur to SoulCalibur II" rather than rewriting the events and starting from scratch. From what I am seeing, SoulCalibur VI covers the events between Soul Edge and SoulCalibur in addition to the events between SoulCalibur and SoulCalibur II. With that said, Talim's age stays the same and it makes the most sense that Talim is the blurred name above Zasalamel since that one's timeline appears to all take place from 1589-1590 AD. This would make sense since she would at least be 13-14 years old in her story mode instead of being 7 years old during 1583 AD (most people seem to assume that Talim is the name between Grøh and Ivy).

If there is anything I am disappointed about in my guess, it would be that Hwang will most likely not make it in the game (or at least in the story mode). I really doubt that Raphael would be excluded despite rumors; but if he is then the blurred name under Yoshimitsu would be a new character while the blurred name between Sophitia and Yoshimitsu would be Tira instead.

It's also possible that the story mode menu is incomplete since there are at least 23 characters at launch and the menu has names for 20 characters. Either that or not all launch characters will be featured in story mode.

The one below Sophitia still might be Tira, seeing her initiation into becoming a Bird of Passage and establishing her link to Sophitia with regards to Pyrrha.

That's also very likely but that would mean that either a new character or Raphael will be left out of the story mode. We still have no idea how long the new character's name would be so that's a wild card. The new character would either take the spot between Sophitia and Yoshimitsu knocking Tira out or it would take the spot between Yoshimitsu and Talim knocking Raphael out. Or it might not be featured in the story mode at all. All we can do is wait until they announce the new character.

Then again, that menu could be incomplete for all we know.

Very long back wasn't there something about there being over 30 characters; exactly 39? This leaked info could have some credibility from back then. I also did assume that if it were true that most of them would be bonus characters. However the one who posted it is a new user so he might be bullshiting us for some attention. Plus I bet this person read some of our posts to make it look more legit.

Also, if Talim is intended to be the same age as before she did come across a shard of Soul Edge and I think she also felt the presence when Siegfried became Nightmare. Though they could also have her be born sooner than later. I know it is still early to judge, but this still feels more like a remake than a reboot.

Finally what is it with wanting a new female character? I would actually not want that in favor of having one of the old favorites return. I would rather have either Cassandra, Hilde or Setsuka to have a slot than a new female character. If they have to she better be worth it. You too, Groh.

If there is no new female, Raph or whoever may get in.

The other newbie being a male makes me convinced he’s a boss, but there’s already Inferno. I think those extra slots at the bottom of the story select have to be unlocked.

It's not so much people wanting a new character so much as IF they are going to insist on new characters wanting them to be women to help offset the massive imbalance between the two genders. As in we already have way more males than females so lets not further that divide even further please.

Would it count if 2B is the second guest character?

Well even in this case, that would mean that it will be a first time a new SC game didn't get a fully new female "SC" character. But of course if it's guest as 2B it can be consider as new character since it will be really a new character made from the ground up like all past SC guest characters.

Trust me that is not my attention. I feel it is better to return old favorites than having new characters seeing how small the roster still is despite there being three extra slots.

Wasn't it said that a Bandai Namco character would be a guest? While 2B will make some crazy sells I doubt she will be the next foreigner from the future to come visit.

If that's true, I missed that part, but...
Some reason with Tales of Vesperia getting remastered, I wouldn't be surprised if we got Yuri Lowell instead.
...if that's true and it would be a Vesperia character, I'd rather we get Judith instead, so we'd have a pure spear user, plus female. Win-win!

And hot. But if it wasn't for that long ass hair Yuri would be cool.

And that discussion about SC really being high fantasy makes you wonder why it doesn't just take place in a constructed world rather than an alternate history with magic. COTS and Weapon Master did it. Kind of wishing that the alternate story is one of those sort of things.

And we haven't even seen what can be considered an intro. If it's going to be in-engine I actually wouldn't mind something like the SC1 intro, especially if we get to customize it like that one.

Why do people always say "They're owned by Namco-Bandai, that makes them more likely"? Historically, they more often go for guests from entirely different companies rather than other in-house studios.

Except then we'd have a spear user that's not CaSable... I think I'd tear out al my hair in frustration... so I hope not... For my own sake...

To be fair Geralt uses one longsword at a time with both hands and Mitsurugi tends to have them. Xiba had plenty of spears or halberds (which I think Edgemaster also used when copying him) too, so hopefully Kilik can get one too. Personally it'd be ideal if should we still be using standard cast-only styles, they can provide everyone at least some variant. Heck Siegfried had the katana much like Sephiroth's Masamune. But then you'd have to explain a Mi-Na cosplayer going all Necalli.
