Soul Calibur VI: General discussion

I was thinking about this earlier and a great way to "get people in the door."
Do a beta where you have access to training, battling others online, and Create-A-Soul with carryover save data. The character(s) you create in Create-A-Soul carries over to when you buy the actual game.
I wouldn't expect anything more than an online multiplayer stress test for a beta.

I wouldn't be shocked if Amy return in Soul Calibur VI using something like this :sc5vio1:

It's a nice design, but unless they age her up several years, I think this would be a bit inappropriate. Though only a couple minor alterations would be needed to make it suitable for someone her age.
But if they do replace Amy with Viola, I can see them going in this direction with her design, as a nod towards Amy.

I don’t know how they got away with this. It’s a blatant copy and even some moves were a copy. I still like Viola better.
Fighting games have been doing this for decades and anyway, it's not as if a crystal ball as a weapon is anything new.

I do think the kitty girl suit, while cute and could be dlc, would be less cool for a Talim 2p outfit than her SC2 and SC3 2p outfits.

I really liked her red, white, and pink 2p from SC2.

Talim's voice actress is known for her baby Lolita style dresses. Maybe she could borrow that look. I dunno. I prefer Talim looking sporty and tomboyish.

This would be really neat if they really are just making her Viola from here on out, as a compromise to let her retain some Amy-ness. But I'm not really okay with her just jumping to adulthood. If anything, I'd have her be a child/teenager first in Raphael's story, and then grow into this, she could be DLC like this, and then actually playable properly and involved in the story like this in SoulCalibur VII.

I think Talim's SoulCalibur II 1p and SoulCalibur III 2p are her best, hopefully something like that will make it in.

Your taste is not bad. :)

I just wish Raph could have kept the goatee he had in his alt. If he does come back, I’d ideally see him with his more disheveled SCV appearance combined with his SC II outfits.

But Talim needs to be covered up. Because it’s actually in character.

Since Harley Quinn became a lot more iconic, it makes me wonder what Tira’s design will be like this time if the former can be considered the latter’s inspiration.

Regarding CAS and this is something I wanted to touch on a little bit...

Basically, much of the CAS system would be limited by the system memory of the console the game is playing on. Since SC6 will be on PS4/Xbone/PC it does mean that they get to play with substantially more memory than they've ever had before, but the stipulation here is that CAS system needs to be developed to take advantage of that extra memory and in the same way the gameplay systems and physics engine also takes advantage of that extra memory and processing power.

What that means, basically, is that Namco has to decide whether they want to take full advantage of the extra memory available to them and develop the CAS system to take full advantage of it, or split the extra gains with the memory for additional effects and features (a couple of these extra features do include dramatic slow motions, and physics-based clothing, among other things). Based on what I've seen so far, it doesn't look like they're going to develop the CAS system as much as they could. I suspect that putting too many resources into CAS would have shrunk the size of the roster, or stages even further. And it seems that they may have had more trouble porting the existing engine into the Unreal 4 engine, based on the fact that they're releasing pre-order CAS parts that look pretty much like those from SC4 and SC5. It's not exactly substantial proof, otherwise, but we'll just have to wait and see.

As far as a CAS unveiling, I suspect we won't see one until Gamescom. That'd be the next major international gaming convention to reveal a major gameplay system. With the next few events coming, I suspect we'll get more character reveals. I hope folks don't get too salty over these.

SCVI to me feels more flexible in terms of developing different strategies? What do you guys think? I hope that doesn't mean it will be broken with infinites, etc.

Damn, I got nothing to show for the 1998 glory days of SoulCalibur I.... except 2 official Japanese books. I wish I had a video of the first beta version that came to the arcades or even some footage of a tournament, alas.

Well, you can't trademark the use of an orb as a weapon. That's like saying any samurai swordsman with a Katana is a Mitsurugi ripoff. And she didn't completely come out of nowhere, with her being Rose's student, another fortuneteller. Menat's design and Egyptian nationality makes her more like Eliza from Skull Girls.

For me personally, Menat's reveal was somewhat crazy. Not to make this into a CaS showcase, but in 2013, I actually made an Egyptian CaS with Viola's moveset. I named her Ubaste and had a similar hairstyle. When Menat was revealed, Ubaste immediately came to mind. I made her a mask to make her somewhat mysterious.

I like big butts, I cannot lie

Since we are talking about Talim's clothing in each game in order from most liked to least is SCII 2P, SCII 1P, SCIII 1P, SCIII 2P, SCIV 2P, SCII 3P and SCIV 1P. I was always a big fan of her second outfit because before I played SCII I played a demo of T5 and she looked like Ling Xiaoyu (love ya Ling, but Tekken just isn't for me.)

Her 1P is a second favorite of mine since it is iconic. Her outfits in SCIII are good too. Though her 1P I felt was a good improvement for her age. It had the right amount to have her covered up yet not to the point to strict modest levels. It still looked like something she can move freely in.

To SCIV... They weren't my favorites. Especially that stupid 1P. I only saw it being ugly as fuck and I don't know what they were thinking. Especially those see through pants. I choose her 2P since it was more of an improvement than her default choice. Still didn't like that she was blonde. I probably know why they did it but still.

For her bonus outfit in SCII is a pass for me.
